Why would they assist in the arrest and then not assist in the investigation, even in a low-key supporting role, until all motives are completely ruled out? Why bother involving them at all if they are not allocated any follow-up work whatsoever?

It sounded like they were involved as it could have been but then they found out who the suspect was and it was immediately ruled out.

They didn’t realise any images etc and so they must have known who they were looking for.

I understand that there was a car on her drive and the local garage owner noticed the car in a lay-by which he reported to police afterwards.

I don’t think your average burglar parks in someone’s drive. Or if they do they’ll have made sure the owner is away/there are no dogs/alarm systems and they’ll have false plates.

Burglars are generally either opportunists on foot or are targeting a property known to have high-value items there - not elderly people with a cabinet of Royal Doulton figurines.

Useful that it was a garage owner, he'd be able to identify the make of vehicle for the police.

Lest we forget that this man consistently lies and claims he’s the most attacked politician in the country, at the time he made those claims two MPs had been murdered in the line of duty.

He is not entitled to any more security than anyone else.

And lest we forget, this was a claim made by Zia Yusuf. And lest we also forget, decisions about security provision for MPs are made by an independent body not the PM .And lest we forget, Farage has already made this murder all about himself, no need for you to contribute to that @Dollymylove

Burglars often drive up park on people’s front drives at midday then murder elderly frail women who are zero physical threat to them 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️ this wasn’t a burglary.

Agreed. Would seem odd to do it in the middle of the day and also to attack her so viciously. Surely they would have just scarpered when they found her at home?

Would you say the same if Ann had been Labour?
I'll wait....

They didn’t realise any images etc and so they must have known who they were looking for.

Police made a statement to that effect on Friday when they arrested the first suspect (whom they later released);

BBC - 'At Friday’s press conference in Exeter, Longman said the force did not believe the killing was politically motivated, and after an initial consultation with counter-terrorism officers, had ruled out a terrorist motive.'

Why then involve Counter Terrorism Policing North East in the arrest of the second suspect?

To mention again - I think they are only covering all bases just in case.

She was due that morning on Storm/Conran and that might have been advertised on the website. Sometimes their guests are in the studio, sometimes they appear from home. A burglar might target her home assuming she was in London, and then she isn't because she is going to appear via a link from home, because it is too hot for an older person to travel.

Yes that’s what I’m wondering.

The fact that it was openly advertised that she’d be appearing somewhere in the morning and then somewhere again in the afternoon.

It would be very easy to assume she’d therefore be out all day.

‘Lest we forget’ why are you invoking wartime terminology? And please don’t bring Farage into it.

Um, was it not you that mentioned Farage.

Viviennemary · Today 11:10

Sky news reporting that an update from the police is expected shortly.

Perhaps it was just because they wanted to arrest him as fast as possible, rather than wait for the police in the area Ann was killed in to travel to that area.

PeachOctopus · Today 11:16

So a new arrest has been made of a suspect in South Yorkshire, a 28 year old white male.

That means we can probably rule out burglary as a motive as it would be much too far to go to commit a break in.

Then she recognises the burglar, he whacks her and legs it, and she dies because she isn't found for 24 hours. Tragic.

Unless he is actually local and scarpered to South Yorkshire? car tracked on motorway ANPR?

If Farage had made it all about himself as he has done with Ann's murder, yes I would. What a strange question.

It’s possible.
In that case someone who has previously worked on the house, or a past carer.

Just in case anyone was wondering why they’d need counter terrorism police to help, this is why. Devon and Cornwall police are useless.

Maybe Devon and Cornwall police don’t have the level of crime and criminals that other areas do.
But that doesn’t explain why counter terrorism police were needed.

they’ve just said again, it’s not terrorism.

but surely there are plenty of well off people that may be burgled, why her?

Totallybannanas · Today 11:46

Sounds pre meditated if they come all the way down from Yorkshire. I can't imagine it's a burglary.

Totallybannanas · Today 11:47

Although she had a nice house. She hardly lived an extravagant lifestyle.
