A recent thread started, “I’m seriously impressed with this guy. Anyone else find him refreshingly honest and sensible?”

He has LIED about representing the Red Cross, LIED about working for the Dept of Justice (he was hired as a role play actor for staff training), LIED about being a proper hypnotherapist, and OBFUSCATED about where he is living (avoiding council tax). And that’s just what’s been discovered in a matter of weeks!

If this were your boss, say, would you still think he was great?

Do you mean you think he forgot to pay it for several years, or that he doesn't understand what the community charge is, or that he thought he doesn't have any responsibility to pay it? Or do you mean he thought he had found a way to dodge it? Which of these options makes him suitable for a political role?

He’s a populist, and works exactly the same way other populists do. And he uses the same tricks on his followers as the right wing populists. It’s not policy- based politics, it’s a cult of personality - just like Trump.

This. Anyone who’s ambitious enough to get anywhere in politics is mercenary and opportunistic to begin with.

This means it’s almost always a choice between a small number of compromised and power-hungry people, and the best you can do is pick the one who at least claims to want to make some of the changes you think will benefit society as a whole, or the one you think will do the least damage.

I don’t know where to start. As someone said upthread he was the only political leader not invited to speak at the rally against antisemitism. He disgusts the Jewish community along with despicable antisemitic council members who are spreading like a cancer within the Greens.

If you don’t wonder why the leader of a party that poses a political threat is being trolled by the media for not paying council tax, and yet the leader of a different party who poses a political threat isn’t being trolled by the same media for taking £5m from a Thai based crypto billionaire, then you need to rethink your moral compass.

This is the same crypto billionaire who has over the years donated £22m to Farage’s parties. He made the largest ever single donation to a political party - £9m to reform, followed by a further £3m months later. His money represents almost the entirety of Reform’s coffers. Maybe that’s why Polanski maybe not paying a few quid in council tax isn’t the top of people’s list of concerns when supporting the Green Party.

He’s been nicknamed Walter Titty and Oswald Muesli.

Both of these nicknames are apt.

It’s really hard to tell if this post is an ironic piss take or not.

Reform will run out of steam well before the national election. If you know anything about politics you will know that green councils and councillors are regarded as some of the most dedicated public servants in the world, and now that there are more sitting in office in places up and down the country, word of mouth will spread exponentially.

Meanwhile, Reform councillors will continue to bring disgrace to their constituencies which will turn people off in their droves.

You can bookmark this post if you really like but Zack Polanski will be sitting in number 10 come the results of the next election. The vibes are just too good.

Incidentally, I live on a boat, and the law around council tax has always been confusing. I am no Polanski fan, but there are a lot of boat dwellers who don’t pay council tax. A lot of them should-but there are also plenty who are exempt.

It's not ideal but like pp it's the party and its policies (although I don't agree with all of them) that I judge better than any of the alternatives, not the leader. The most that's going to happen in 2029 if Green momentum continues is that they'll be a significant player in a left coalition or supporting a Labour minority government. It's not like they're realistically looking at a majority and Polanski becoming prime minister.
