Why isn’t Trump being overthrown?

itsneverdullinull · 08/03/2026 07:39

I’m sorry if this is a really thick question but I’m guessing that the answers will be multi-faceted.

Why isn’t Trump being overthrown internally in the US? He is presiding over a shit show and trampling over the constitution from what I understand. But there doesn’t seem to be massive resistance to this (or at least none reported). Can anyone explain why this is, please. Genuine question.

Only a few selected ones are making a fortune indeed. As per usual, when there is a crisis, and this is going to be THE CRISIS!
Maybe we should consider to grow UK's economy by stablishing a strong weapons manufacturing sector. Let's call it IronMan or something cool like that.
We already have plenty of customers.
And we will not need to worry about our carbon footprint! Or feeding the world! Or human rights... who wants to be ruled by those.

MushMonster · 29/03/2026 09:34

The No Kings demonstrations are going strong in US! Trump is in more domestic trouble that he cares to admit. He is doing the opposite of his manifesto, bypassing Congress and shooting down American citizens for exercising their rights. He is on very very very thin ice.

BIossomtoes · 29/03/2026 10:03

It’s so encouraging to see the No Kings demos yesterday. The mid terms should be interesting.

Agreed, I don't think he will survive the midterms. Honestly think he will be impeached by the house and the senate and will be removed and imprisoned....

I hope so!

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 29/03/2026 18:15

Can he declare emergency powers due to was and stop the mid terms happening?

MushMonster · 29/03/2026 19:41

Oh, I suppose he can tey! But I doubt it will succeed.

MushMonster · 29/03/2026 19:47

Just watched a video of Vance sitting in the White House with all the boys saying how special Easter is and wishing a good Easter week (to soldiers, who may, actually... be of a differenet faith... but he did not seem to gather that point...)
Then just opened the news to see that Israel has not allowed the priest into the Holly Sepulcre Church today, for mass, today! Palm Sunday!

In the great scheme of things, it is nothing. Nobody died or has been arrested and Christians can pray anywhere, at any time.

But you really cannot make this shit up!

MushMonster · 30/03/2026 08:01

Netanyahu has now sorted access for the priests and cardinal to the Holy Sepulcre Church. Thanks goodness. Just before MAGA wakes up to a "cancelled" Easter in Jerusalem.

Because over half of Americans like myself voted for Trump and actually like what he’s doing for the most part?

Excuse me, but that's not true. About one-quarter of Americans voted for him, because only about half of America votes.
It's also worth noting that Trump LOST the first two popular votes, and the reason he won the third time was because he was scraping the bottom of the barrel for the dregs of young white men who don't usually vote.

MsAmerica · 04/04/2026 01:03

itsneverdullinull · 19/03/2026 07:16

So you’re happy that you have a ln unconvincted paedophile and a nepotistic convicted fraudster in charge of your country? Not to mention someone who isn’t that interested in looking after anyone in the country who doesn’t look and think like he does?

Also, genuinely, what has he done that constitutes the ‘most part’ that you like? I get that we might not hear about the good stuff he’s doing as it’s eclipsed by the bad, but if there are positives they should be highlighted. What are they?

There is basically no good stuff that he is doing, except occasionally by accident.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 19/03/2026 08:09

I’m also wondering why there isn’t a level above Trump which has to agree to his actions. Maybe there is and they agree with everything he is doing.
What I am aware of is that he gets rid of opponents. The head of the military spoke against Trump’s rationale about Ukraine for example and was swiftly replaced.
He surrounds himself with unqualified yes men.
Most of the US don’t care about Iran, that’s not a criticism, all citizens care primarily about themselves and their family and immediate circle.
Yet Trump is ruining the US economy. The price of petrol is rocketing.
Surely he can’t justify this to US citizens.

Yes, there is a level theoretically co-equal with Trump which has to agree. That's Congress. For instance, they could have stopped him for attacking Iran. But the problem is that Congress is now dominated by the same Republican party, and while many Republican senators and representatives privately admit that they despise him, they're terrified - because Trump has been able to prevent them from getting re-elected by supporting someone else. These people are mostly spineless.

MsAmerica · 04/04/2026 01:10

flapjackfairy · 19/03/2026 10:07

but what stuff is he getting done ? Genuine question.
He ran.on promises to end Ukraine war on day one no less. Ha ha that went well.
He said he would slash gas and electricity charges. Surprisingly they are massively up. And oil is obviously soaring now.
He promised to make health care affordable and has done the opposite.
He has bankrupted farmers and destroyed tourism and the economy is in the shitter. He has failed to create jobs
And finally he has trashed his promise not to engage in further wars or attack Iran. He wasn't sending your kids to die remember.
He is the president of peace after all.
.He also promised to be transparent about the Epstein files which was another lie.
So I ask again....what has he got done...except set up ICE and terrorise innocent people .

Exactly! Yes! Thank you!
I should also point out the gullibility of his supporters. I still can't believe they fell for these absurd promises - including that he would instantly lower food prices.

Imdunfer · 08/03/2026 07:42

There is no valid comparison whatsover between the two, imo.

Well quote. Trump is insane, erratic and dangerous. Starmer is sane, thoughtful and measured. You don't have to agree with his policies to recognise this.

Mischance · 04/04/2026 01:10

Quite, not quote ..

MsAmerica · 04/04/2026 01:22

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 19/03/2026 11:22

Yes I’d like to know exactly what positive things Trump has done.
I know for a fact that gas prices have risen in the US which affects the cost of living for every citizen.
It’s a genuine question, what positives has he brought?

Trump has, overall, done nothing good, except maybe one or two small things by accident. Like engineering a prisoner oversees to be freed. But you can be sure that in these situations, he's been coaxed by someone else. Or bribed.

Trump is the only president about whom I can say nothing positive. He has no friends in the ordinary sense of the world. He is estranged from much of his family. (He once pushed to get his nephew's medical insurance canceled, and tried to tamper with his father's will.) He is appallingly ignorant. He is horrifyingly rude and cruel. He hires incompetent people, basing his choices mostly on their loyalty and money. His criminality is staggering.

By comparison, President George W. Bush was widely disliked, but at least you could feel he had some decency. He loved his family and had genuine friends. His military actions were appalling and stupid, but I believe he was sincere in caring for the country. He was under-qualified (though certainly more qualified than Trump!), but he drew on his father's circle (his father having been President George H. W. Bush) to choose competent people.

President Richard Nixon, who was widely considered the most corrupt president ever at the time, seems almost angelic by comparison. He was smart, experienced, and promoted a lot of good governmental programs.

If you find any Trump supporter citing anything good that Trump has done, you can be fairly sure that they're slanting the truth.

Bernie Sanders wouldn't get close to power, so what you are getting is extreme and neo liberalism....there's isn't a left.

if only Bernie Sanders could get more widespread support. He's a thoroughly decent person, and everything that Trump isn't. He talked on a broadcast yesterday about imposing a wealth tax on the billionaires, well that's never going to happen.

the trouble is the US today is built on a culture of such excessive greed with an even greater divide between the rich and poor than in UK. Sanders would never stand a chance because he's just too decent and not sufficiently cut-throat to ever get voted in as President. He'd be mincemeat.

Bernie is terrific, but temperamentally unsuited.

Are Americans not embarrassed by this buffoon?

He and his team had no objective or exit strategy for war against Iran, never mind anticipating Iran’s counter attack options.

He gives a 48 hour ultimatum for Iran to open up the HS and then backs down and talks about a 5 day period for discussions with Iran and if unsuccessful for the US “we’ll just keep bombing our little hearts out”.

And we thought Dubya was thick?

Embarrassed, horrified, and ashamed!

:(

"BIossomtoes · Today 12:09
The non decent ones will turn on him in a heartbeat when the stock market goes through the floor and the price at the pump goes through the roof. “It’s the economy, stupid”."

This- it's always this. I hope and expect that when the time comes, the personality cult goes with him- Vance doesn't have the style- and all his yes men get scapegoated, blamed for propping him up and washed anyway. I don't know who is going to get the job of diverting the rivers to hose through the Augean stables of selfish incompetents and clear up the mess. Perhaps a woman- when there's shit all over the carpet and the walls and the ceiling, it'll be a woman's job to clear it up, then she can be pushed out of the way so a young white man- preferably quite good looking in a wholesome all American way- reasonably decent but knows how to play the game.

Bernie Sanders is too decent and far too old. Biden was doddering and Trump is worse. I do think he has dementia and it's not even mild at this stage. I went down the rabbit hole on this a bit in the past few days, watching videos analysing his State of the Union address for example- and I do think the commentators who think he has to be whacked up to the eyeballs on go-go juice before he's wheeled on to rant for 2 hours are correct. He even forgot the word "Alzheimers" FGS.

"At a certain age, about 86, 87, he started getting, what do they call it?” Trump asked, pointing to his forehead and looking toward White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
“Alzheimer’s,” Leavitt replied.
“Like an Alzheimer’s thing. Well, I don’t have it,” Trump added."

The seeds of dementia are sown waaay before it is diagnosed, generally. My dad had it in his late 60s and was passing those types of cognitive tests that Trump boasts about "acing" while he had quite clearly already lost a lot of marbles and too dangerous to be off farming on his own.. By the time he was far gone enough for diagnosis he was only a couple of years away from a dementia nursing home and death followed a couple of years after that.

Trump's father had Alzheimer's, and it's supposedly inheritable.

You may not like him but he's not a sex offender with dementia who's starting illegal wars, is he? 🙄

sigh
Pretty low bar.

If you listen to Fox News, it is like a different world unveiling in front of your eyes. They really think that Trump is projecting the US strength in the Iranian conflict.
They seem blind to a rambling president who contradicts himself every two sentences, a president who is working really hard to allienate the US historical allies while constantly "asking" for their intervention in the SoH, a president who underestimates the country they are about to go to war with, who does not prepare for war, who does not even know what this war is for, who cannot keep hold of Netanyahu during this joined endevour, who seems to be playing up with the oil markets, who has triggered a crash in the world's economy and actual supply of vital shipments, who has not found the uranium, who is failing to bring Iran to negotiations, who has risked the US relationship with the Gulf States by starting this without talking to them and now news refer to some weapons sales from his own sons, plus some noise about how those who use SoH should pay for the war....
I mean, the list is LONG! And I have not even menytioned DOGE, ICE, Venezuela, Canada and Greenland... and the East wing of the White House.....
How is it possible that the guys in Fox are not realising that Trump has sunk the US in a spiral of isolation? This of having access denied to bases and airspace is going to spread worldwide, for starters.
I suppose they think we are all afraid of US and we are ready to hand in our sovereignity with trembling knees. But the world is not going to forget this one in a hurry. The price of this war will not only be paid in blood and $. It is going to have a massive loss of US international power attached to it.

Absolutely this. The lunatic is in charge of the asylum.

Alexandra2001 · 04/04/2026 07:13

FOX knows, we all know but Trump has the power to wreck careers, perhaps even put on trial anyone who opposes him, even the heads of law enforcement.... he even got an ex POTUS in front of a congressional hearing, yet he (Trump) is immune form such questioning, despite his very strong links to Epstein.

Something i just read:

"He (trump) may not be a Russian agent. But if he were, what would he be doing differently"

USA is blockading Cuba, causing great suffering and death to the Cubans, a Russian oil tanker allowed through, Trump says "No problem with that..."

Personal opinion he is either is a Russian stooge/admires the Russian way of doing things or has some form of Dementia, nothing else explains his behaviors.

MushMonster · 04/04/2026 07:20

I was just thinking after reading about some attacks on oil installations that this may be a petition from Russia, so the sanctions are not placed back after the war with Iran. Where else should the world get oil?
Putin is definitively the winner on this. And Trump loves him so much! It is not fear, but total love and devotion.
I am sure Trump was rather hurt when Zelensky took a central role in his Iran war with Ukraine's new drones. He must have called Putin and begged forgiveness!

Apart from in a very expensive bed how does Murdoch sleep at night allowing his network to propagate the sycophantic support of Trump knowing that there is an American demographic that uncuriously laps it all up.
