You have elected as an MP to stand in the UK&NI parliament a person who said in a panel interview with Annabel Tiffin from BBC Northwest Tonight that the Manchester Arena bombing was caused by people sewing division by questioning immigration.

That statement is so outrageous I don't even know where to start.

Great Britain will never be great again.

What on earth do you mean by this?

They mean there's too many brown people in GB.

soddingspiderseason · 28/02/2026 11:11

AStonedRose · 28/02/2026 10:58

here's the clip about the Manchester bombings: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/GJE8ZS52-U

I think you have to go some way to understand her as saying what the OP is suggesting. I think it's completely fair to suggest division is a cause of conflict.

It's also worth remembering that the Muslim community of Manchester completely rejected the MEN Bomber. The local mosques refused to allow him an islamic funeral.

Absolutely. Tired of the right using this as a political football.

Dollymylove · 28/02/2026 11:12

I wonder what the arena bombers victims family thought when she came out with that little pearl?
I dont like her one bit. She comes across like an enthusiastic school girl who just scored at hockey rather than a serious politician.
Someone wake me up when its all over 😴

Stop baiting there is more to that statement than racism

I'll bet you are.

It was an utterly crass remark, which she handed to the right on a plate.

@thisistI'm 42 and never remember it being “great”. Please say what you really mean.

In 1983/84, Britain:

Had infant mortality rate of 10 per 1,000 live births vs 70-80 globally.

Homicide rate of 1 per 100,000 vs 10 global average.

Was one of about 30 liberal democracies, of 160 countries, and with women’s legal rights far ahead of most countries (and a female head of state and PM).

GDP per capita three times the global average.

It’s a pretty cosseted view to think these things aren’t great by the standards of almost anywhere else at almost any other time.

The world has got a lot better for almost everyone extremely rapidly, mainly becuase of medicine, trade, industry, technology, the enlightenment and the international liberal order. The UK has played a hugely outsized role in each of those.

It’s pretty misanthropic to not celebrate these things and historically illiterate to ignore the role of the country where we happen to have been born in that story.

MrsBadEnoch · 28/02/2026 11:02

Did you read that in the Daily Mail?

Not sure if it was in the DM but it was absolutely true. Look it up. More recently ZP congratulated the lowlifes that got away with aggravated burglary and broke a policewoman spine. I don't know how anyone could vote for this party with such a leader.

Happyher · 28/02/2026 11:14

It’s a protest vote. Once people realise how batshit the current Green Party is they won’t vote for them in a general election. The media will be scalp-hunting them too now

Imdunfer · 28/02/2026 09:33

I don't want us to be "Great Again".

I want us to find an equilibrium where we can enjoy our green and pleasant land, which I mean with no religious implications, and find a way to live causing minimal damage to the planet while providing a decent standard of living and health care for all our people without disadvantaging people in other countries.

I don't believe hearking back to times with a vastly different set of world trading and moral standards is in any way to be applauded.

That sound very aligned with Green Party values.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 28/02/2026 11:02

Also don't believe what you see on TikTok. Or quote it in a political debate, if you want to retain any vestige of credibility.

It was a BBC Northwest Tonight broadcast.

MrsBadEnoch · 28/02/2026 11:18

It is. It's just a coincidence that the surname subdivides into two words that have an unfortunate connotation, @TheNuthatch .

Not Labour then

It is aligned with many of their values but their plans for how to achieve it are politically and economically naive beyond belief, or non existent.

I watched the actual thing and I saw it in a TikTok snippet in my news feed again this morning. I don't have a TikTok login but you might be able to find it in A BBC Northwest Tonight feed.

Marr Goodwin asks Hannah Spencer what she think caused the Manchester Arena Bombing and she replies, as verbatim as I can remember "because people like you are dividing people".

I'm glad she explained, because I was pretty sure that Tony Blair helping the US bomb the shit out of Iraq after fabricating evidence of WMD had a fair bit more impact.

The arena bombing also predates all the divisive rhetoric other than the Brexit campaign.

Who wants an MP in Parliament who thinks blowing up people at a pop concert can be blamed on anyone but the people who made and placed the bombs?

She did not say that in response to his question. My post above gives the actual transcript.

Oh please. Ppl on GB news going on about family voting even before the result was out. Same old playbook. " oh dear, a green person has won. Oh. I know. Let's find any feeble thing we can to discredit her before she even gets starred" Yawn.

It's definitely true, ZP has apologised for it. Looks more like it was a one off than the basis of his bucks business but still.

did You hear the reform candidates graceless speech about losing because of islamists ? Ugh what a relief they didn’t win . I’m scared of their idea about what makes Britain ‘great’ . Flag shagging misogynistic thick twats!

The Greens are also misogynistic, given they think that men can be women and wish to destroy women's rights (because there can be no women's rights if men are included).

Jlom · 28/02/2026 11:22

Om83 · 28/02/2026 10:53

My feeling about the greens policies are that most of them are good, as in they come from a place of ethics and morality, a focus on the environment and the people, a focus on moving closer to Europe, offer a welcome change. I don’t agree with everything- I don’t want self identification of men saying they are women, but this is one issue and as we know policies do get u turned or adapted in a way to best suit the feeling of the country.

I haven’t read anything about ‘open borders’ but do agree with them that we need a better way to handle migration than what is happening now- I have no problem at all with skilled ‘outsiders’ living in this country and working here and contributing to our economy, and the systems in place to support that properly.

I also like how they would stop the first past the post voting system we have and make sure the NHS and education improves.

I don’t see how greens are crazy for actually being decent human beings and wanting to put people’s needs and the environment first???

All parties want better education, better living standards, better environment, better nhs etc. why wouldn't they? It would be wonderful for everyone and keep them in power for ages. The problem is that those things cost a huge amount of money and someone has to pay for them. Apparently that is the Billionaires. If the Greens got in, the number of Billionaires in the UK would go from very few to none. Even if some billionaires stayed it wouldn't makea dent. Which means the Greens are lying or very bad at maths.

The reality of having the Greens in power is that the country would get poorer and everyone's standard of living would get worse, except for the Billionaires who would have moved to another country.

ARRGGGH! clutches pearls. NOT MEN?

I’ve used the men’s loos loads of times. Occasionally, if I’m really busting (and it’s empty), I use the disabled or baby change. Am I a man or a baby or a disabled person? Nope, do I need a piss - yes. But what’s your tangential point? Surely there must be one…

I'm assuming you can't see any negatives in men having totally unrestricted access to women's spaces or services? Even though men are women's greatest predator and violence against women and girls is at epidemic levels. I also assume that you'd be entirely comfortable sharing a rape crisis centre with men? If so, you really, really are quite the outlier. Your comment about pearl clutching is am immature attempt to diminish the obvious dangers of allowing men into any and all women only spaces. But if you (and your daughters if you have any) are happy to give men a free pass without question to those spaces and services then crack on.

Daygloboo · 28/02/2026 11:23

Imdunfer · 28/02/2026 09:54

It's not a pivot at all. It's a Green policy and the poster said they would accept anything to keep Reform out. I want to know if she includes all the effects of defining female identified trans men as biological women.

On top of blaming a massacre of innocents at a pop concert on people concerned about immigration.

Edited

Go Greens. Most sensible party out there. They are human scale. Not like other parties out to line their own pockets and their billionaire friends..Go Greens. Go all the way !!
