Preferably in this country (UK) but could be international. One person who seems inspiring, hard working, well intentioned, pioneering or any other characteristic you admire.

Wes Streeting is an awful bully. Have you not read his comments on Twitter? Threatening to break people’s legs and wishing violence on others. I’m surprised he’s not been arrested and charged.

Wow! Really. If this is true its dreadful, how is he still in post?

No they aren’t.

Farage has said he’d withdraw any benefits for those with anxiety and depression.

As for xenophobia. How obvious does it have to be? I mean come on!

This has all been in the news in the last week. How come you don’t know about it, yet think they are left wing?Confused

I think you shouldn't be able to claim benefits for anxiety and depression unless extremely severe. Obviously. Having had family experience of both. We used to just have to crack on. Shit but that's life. And symptoms are too easy to fake.

Ah yes. I did watch NFs speech. Hes got a point. Labour have made it too expensive to employ young people. So unless ENI is cut then the minimum wage will have to go down. Labour have shafted the young. We all knew that. Nothing left or right about it. The Law of unintended (but perfectly obvious) consequences.

Reform are going to remove the 2 child benefit cap. Is that left or right wing in your opinion?

Er, so exactly as it is now then?

Or at all. If we end up having to chose between that and defence for example.

Good question!

It appears left wing. Bit the far right has always had an obsession with women having loads of children. Kinder, Kirke and all that.

Which is ironic given that anxiety and depression feature highly in military personnel health records.

StrikeForever · 07/11/2025 00:49

Ed Davey, Layla Moran and Jack Polanski. The sad thing is that I was a member of the Labour Party until relatively recently. Jess Philips is also admirable.

StrikeForever · 07/11/2025 00:57

Oh, and Andy Burnham

Gideon Amos MP is good. Really seems to care about his constituents.

Not exactly the point. We fund defence so that our country is defended.

🤣 Good save!

Although remember the Nazis were socialists.

Are you saying that Reform are modern day Nazis? Which other Reform policies (other than lifting the two child benefit cap apparently) would you say were Nazi policies too?

No they weren’t. They called themselves that to appeal to normal working people. They were never socialists.

All very right wing governments want women to produce more children. Look at Hungary, paying people. But no one took it up.

The reform obsession with immigration is xenophobic. Just like Hitler with Jews.

They had a command economy though. Anyway far more deaths have happened under left wing regimes so its not hugely useful argument. And its a bit old school, isn't it these days? Calling Reform thr Nazi party? Bit like calling people "racists" or "far right". Terms that have lost all power due to inappropriate over use. And also a bit offensive bearing in mind Reform are well ahead in the polls. Are you saying people voting for Reform are going to be voting for Nazis?

Its not xenophobic to want borders that work by the way.

Why are you pretending Reform aren’t Far Right?

Because they aren't. Their views are mainstream. They are mainstream. Look at the polls. I wouldn't suck up everything the Guardian tells people. And you can easily put labels on political parties but it doesn't make that label true

Do you think the old Red Wall Labour voters intending to vote Reform have suddenly become "far right"?

What about the Gaza MPs? Are they left wing or right wing in their beliefs about women or gays for example?

No l don’t think they’ve become ‘far right’

I think they don’t fully understand Reform. What’s Nige gonna do to improve their lives apart from ‘stopping the boats?’

Make the welfare state smaller?. Make the minimum wage smaller for their kids? Get rid of workers right? Scrap the equalities act?

All right wing stuff.

I appreciate you want Reform to be "far right". But none of those policies (if you actually look at what they are proposing) are in any way far right. So Reform aren't actually far right. They are centre right. And that seems to be popular with a huge amount of the electorate. And a lot of the policies you list are needed.

Are you, by saying that tbe Red Wall "dont fully understand Reform" but you (wrongly from your posts ) think by contrast you do? Why would you think you are more perceptive? Do you think you give the impression that you are more intelligent than people in the north that may vote Reform?

Anyway I'm a bit fed up of name calling of people and parties that dont actually reflect reality. It would be so refreshing to actually discuss policies without resorting to generic knee jerk labelling which doesn't really help give clarity. That's just my opinion of course. I think things are starting to improve generally although some people haven't yet noticed.

Actually the Nazis we're a combination of nationalism (putting German interests first, pride in Germany after Versailles etc) and socialism (state control of banks and essential industries such as steel and coal, state welfare systems, state programs for young people like Hitler Youth, state organised and paid for vacations).

So yes the Nazis were socialists and nationalists which is why they were called the National Socialists.

Nigel Farage.

Not because I agree with his policies; I voted Remain & won’t be voting for Reform. In my view Brexit has been a disaster for the U.K. and for Europe.

But because of the way he has almost single-handedly moved the Overton window, given a voice to the views of millions of ordinary working class people & changed British politics. And done this while maintaining a place in legitimate mainstream politics. His political skill is remarkable and he is already the most influential British politician since Thatcher. If he wins the next election & becomes PM it would be a historic moment.

I agree. He is an excellent disruptor, and rightly or wrongly, he does voice what most people are now too frightened to say out loud.

They were called the National Socialists to appeal to ordinary people. It was a propoganda thing.

I can’t find anything to support your theory.

Were the Nazis socialists? No, not in any meaningful way, and certainly not after 1934.

Look what happened last time. I don’t get why people say it’s Rachel Reeves messing up the economy- surely it’s the heritage of the Cons and Brexit which has done that? the legacy of debt from the last government will take years to recover from.
@Fleetheart
We know that the Tories made mistakes in their last Government. No support for Boris from me.
You cannot keep whingeing on about Brexit, It was a long time ago and EU countries are not doing so much better than us.

Keir and Rachel just thought they would make their Manifesto claims work because they were so much better people than the 'others'. RR was taken by surprise by the 'Black Hole'. It had been flagged by writers like Paul Johnson. She ignored the warnings.
They, K & R have not prepared a plan of improvement, It is too difficult for them.
They made so many noises about Growth of the economy and then loaded companies with restrictions.
Their is no Plan B because there wasn't a Plan A.

We could stop whinging about Brexit and other things that affect the economy (health problems from covid infections and reinfections, lockdown, people affected by Liz Truss budget, austerity etc). It doesn’t stop their impacts though. The black hole shouldn’t have come as a surprise to Labour either.
