Can't berate Starmer for this but think some parents will be aghast.

Leave it, it's zealotry based on (as always) lack of education and poor comprehension. You have no chance to win, no matter how factual you are.

Find a quiet place to bone up.

On what?

Josephinesnapoleon · 26/09/2024 16:29

Happyher · 26/09/2024 16:21

He’s declared it as per the rules as should do all MPs. He hasn’t tried to hide it. So he’s done nothing wrong. In view of many other declarations from MPs of all parties it’s a non story unless you highlight everything declared by everyone else. Sorry but these attempts by the right wing media trying to make out Starmer is as bad as the Tories who used our tax payments as their personal bank account are getting ridiculous and boring now

Confused

Yes you’re right but bloody hell. It’s mind boggling.

Nice try but it won't help him much

No he didn’t. The whole reason we know about it is because he declared it and it’s all on the Members’ Register website for anyone to see. However much you might argue it’s ethically wrong, no attempt has been made to deceive.

He deceived parliament and by default the public as to the true value of accommodation. If you accept a gift work £40k and list it as £20k how is that not deception?

Tories shut down all the libraries.

In London there are loads of libraries open.

Isn’t he the gift that just keeps on giving? Vile, arrogant and grabby.

But also utterly oblivious to how rapacious he has been. He seems to see himself as some sort of saint and therefore anything he does as this heavenly higher being is beyond reproach. Instead his snout has been firmly in the trough for years and all the while he was lambasting the tories for corruption.

I think you'll find that the descriptions attached to items on the register are designed to be opaque. So either Rayner or Reeves described cash for access .. sorry ... I mean cash for parties and clothes as being to support their parliamentary duties.

Absolutely spot on. Couldn’t agree more.

And meanwhile other kids will be leaving their private schools due to the VAT....

Exactly this!! The hypocrisy is unbelievable! He bashes parents sending their children to private school as giving them an “unfair advantage” and slams them with higher fees than many can’t afford, meanwhile he gives his own son a hugely unfair advantage, when many other students all over the country do not have this luxury, some living in over crowded housing, lots of noise etc etc. His behaviour has been nothing short of awful since he became PM. Such a disappointment.

👏 👏 👏 This!

Unbelievable!

I'm glad they are seeing some sense, but really wonder how they will dress it up to save the face.

I guess they will rely on public not being knowledgeable enough to understand the gap between manifesto and policy. Hope journos will do a good job

Definitely.

Although imagine the howls of protest from the Guardian and the unions.

Now they just need to do the right thing on PS fees.

What a bunch of numpties this lot are.

nearlylovemyusername · 26/09/2024 20:49

Agree but I wouldn't bet a penny on them reversing PS VAT - it's religious, this is the hill they will be prepared to die on.

The only escape would be to let the Lords block it and cry "unfaaair", but I'm not familiar with technicalities and not sure if this policy requires Parliament's approval.

But this document is an interesting read. And embarrassing one for Mrs R
Independent schools: Proposed VAT changes - House of Lords Library (parliament.uk)

Anyway, let's don't derail the thread, it's still about Free Gear Junior success at GCSE

I have no problem with this or any government changing course if new facts and analyses come to light.

What is so pathetic about this, though, is that the very wealthy have been demonised by Labour and its supporters for many years. Anyone saying that non dom status might actually be a good thing and that punitive tax is self-defeating has been shouted down.

Many Labour fans on here attacked Sunak’s wife over and over and over, and attacked Sunak by association, because she was a wealthy non dom. As if that was somehow illegal or immoral.

hamstersarse · 26/09/2024 22:35

I’m suffering from awful second hand cringe for him

He’s so embarrassingly bad. The Free the Sausages thing this week made me howl, so I am grateful for that, but his hypocrisy is so staggering

I think besides the fact he’s again accepting freebies from his rich chums, as I understand it he was literally broadcasting from The Penthouse telling people they should stay at home, while not being at home. And placing pictures of his children behind him to make it look like he was at home.

so cringe.

The main thing that Starmer had going for him was that he wasn’t Boris Johnson, or Rishi Sunak or heaven forbid, Liz Truss. Simply not being any of those people was enough to get him elected to the position of Prime Minister.

And yet, even with such a low bar to start from, he has quickly and spectacularly shown himself up to be incompetent, insincere and insufferable. It’s quite some achievement.

Seasaltlady · 26/09/2024 23:29

All the hate for the wealthy and then look at them lapping up the freebie crumbs thrown at them by …. the wealthy!!!?

nearlylovemyusername · 26/09/2024 23:37

Sir Keir Starmer to meet with Donald Trump to 'establish a relationship' | Politics News | Sky News

Didn't have time to meet Kamala though.

Oh wait, maybe he needs to stay somewhere overnight hence building relationship with Trump??

MoneyNeverSleeps · 27/09/2024 05:43

And the Starmer supporters become increasingly conspicuous by their silence…
