Can't berate Starmer for this but think some parents will be aghast.

Certain Labour fans have studiously avoided addressing the hypocrisy element of the issue, preferring to describe the discussion as 'right wing frothing'. Which speaks volumes.

It really does show a lack of critical thinking to portray such unwavering loyalty at all times. It's ok to not agree with your chosen political party, you know, and see the hypocrisy for what it is. Being a full time cheerleader is just rather pathetic, IMO.

No wonder turnout at the GE was so low. Look at the choice the electorate had.

Edited

Spot on.

I’ve noticed a marked decline in the number of Labour apologists though. The fanaticism is evidently waning in the face of the rather compelling news flow.

True. The ones who've always been hardcore cheerleaders are still banging their drums, however (mixed metaphors slightly, but you know what I mean!).

@NoWordForFluffy We do have an issue with people switching off from politics. Taking freebies like this epitomizes the issue. No one is trustworthy. It might be within the rules but most people don’t get this stuff and would nit be allowed to. It’s beyond reasonable. Labour was the new broom. Except they are not. It’s pretty poor. And a turn off yet again.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/09/2024 10:37

Precisely, @TizerorFizz. And the more that people turn off from it, the easier it is for low quality politicians to make their way up through the ranks. You then end up in this pitiful situation.

Looking right, look at the low quality Tory leadership candidates. Regardless of anyone's politics, it's pretty obvious that the people who make up the HoC these days are a long way from the (overall, there's always been a % of duff ones) quality of MPs a couple of decades (and beyond) ago.

Labour scum!

To quote our eminent deputy leader in case that was lost, which it seems to have been.

Clearly not the shining paragons of virtue they have made themselves out to be!

How odd, a pile of Tories piles on. All the usual names!

Starner was wrong to accept the free goods, although it was a minuscule drop in the ocean compared to what the Tories took.

I'm more interested to know in detail what his policies are. It's become common for politicians of all stripes to be coy about those. Democracy in action.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

I voted Labour at the last election having believed their promises during their campaign.

This is why I am so furious at their behaviour. I feel totally betrayed and lied to by Starmer and I am truly disgusted and angered by his greed and hypocrisy and the fact that I was taken in by it.

Yes conservative voters are crowing because the political nativity and dishonesty shown by KS is off the scale. But as a labour voter at the last election I am even more furious. I feel we’ve been taken for granted and blatantly lied to.

Blanketyre · 29/09/2024 11:12

That was a long time ago, the tories were scum and I'm a dithery voter but this doesn't bother me that much.

The freebies and the lack of political nous of the Labour Party- and that includes AR and her war on NIMBYS - worry me far more.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 29/09/2024 11:12

*naivity, not nativity!

I am in the same boat. I have never voted Tory in my life, and I'm 57!

I never voted Tory. I will never forget and never forgive Brexit.

But - how, just how it was possible to believe Labour's promises? Not a single number in their manifesto matched, not a single policy was workable. Just how?

I don't think she's diversity hire.

I think it's much worse than this - she's true face of Labour and reflection of their ideology.

I strongly suspect that Labour and their masters put Starmer on the top so not to scare electorate (remember Corbyn?) and let them win on the belief it's centrist party.

I'm waiting to see how these scandals are going to evolve and if he will be pushed to resign with ultra left taking the lead.

I saw a glimpse of the ruthlesslness when Diane Abbott was brushed aside. Her constituency liked and trusted her for 37 years.

I would agree. On one side this would mean that Labour will be truly over after this term, however, the scale of damages done till then will be horrifying and I'm not sure how the next Parliament will look like. Again, I have a major fear of Reform

Hi confuses authority with ruthlessness. He believes that following through "unpopular" decisions gains him respect.
This type of behavior is typical of people like Putin.

I share your valid fear about Reform. What we need is people to vote for other existing parties: Lib Dem’s, Green etc. or we will be forever trapped in this two party horse race. It’s the underlying issue with UK politics, but also means the Tories and Labour are equally complacent, as our choice is either them or them. What a bloody mess, to think we used to laugh at American politicians, those days are gone. @nearlylovemyusername
