I’m calling the date of the next General Election

Thursday 24 October 2024.

My logic is thus:

  1. Tory MPs with kids in private school will want the election after the next academic year starts so that they will get an extra year VAT free while Labour gets its house in order. This is why Jeremy Hunt said the election wouldn’t happen until the Autumn.

  2. Tory MPs will want to take full advantage of the summer holidays/recess so they won’t want to campaign in July/August when they could be on a yacht instead.

  3. Term will start Week Commencing Monday 9 October at the latest. They will want to have a week to sort things out.

  4. So, 6 weeks after the Thursday of the week after 9 September is Thursday 24 October which fits in nicely with half term and they can go on holiday again.

Place your bets.

Some idiot is playing Things can only get better over him

Fantastic move.

Ooh, Keir’s on. He checked the weather forecast and is nice and dry inside.

@BloodyHellKenAgain "That depends on whether you want to hear what's he's saying which I did as he was making an important announcement."

Oh, come on-it was easy to hear him. And I am old and listening on my phone's loud speaker..

BloodyHellKenAgain · 22/05/2024 17:46

@CurlewKate I still rather no background music. KS talking now and I wouldn't like loud, tinny background music over him either.

BritainDoesNotAppearToHaveTalent · 22/05/2024 17:49

@CurlewKate i could hear it but it would’ve been easier to take in without that distraction. It was very disrespectful of our political process.

Notonthestairs · 22/05/2024 17:51

They spent the day trailing the announcement so the prank music was entirely predictable.
They have a media room which cost the taxpayer £2.6 million & which, to the best of my knowledge, has walls and a roof.

The advisors cocked that up. And Sunak for not looking out the window and thinking this is a terrible idea.

Newgirls · 22/05/2024 17:52

I thought rishi was disrespectful in what he said - used it as a party political broadcast and basically accused kier starmer of being a liar. Very undignified all round.

Churchview · 22/05/2024 17:54

Not a moment too soon.

I’m calling the date of the next General Election

Thank the lord. Our pain is nearly at an end.

It will be end July when the students and young families are on holiday etc. He is relying on the older committed voters who don’t tend to go off so much for travels then.

Not that far off and here’s the reason

Lettucelet · 22/05/2024 18:32

All the private school parents will be rushing off to get their postal votes sorted as the vair posh schools finish at the end of June and they’ll be going on holiday the day after.

It really isn't.

Do you think that all the people on the NHS waiting lists are going to evaporate?

frankentall · 22/05/2024 21:30

BloodyHellKenAgain · 22/05/2024 17:37

That depends on whether you want to hear what's he's saying which I did as he was making an important announcement.

We were able to hear the date. The rest was a mixture of lies, irrelevant prattle and personal attack on Starmer; not new and definitely not "important" at all.

Wow.

No need to be snarky.

If you’re in your early 30s (like me!), all you have ever known as an adult has been the Tory government, cuts, austerity, Brexit and Covid.

We haven’t had a single ‘good’ year. 2014/2015 things seemed to be getting back to normal(ish) then bam, Brexit. Then bam, Covid.

Easy to be derisive if for you it’s been more of a blip

I don't think this LP are going to be the answer to dreams, but they are going to be better than the current lot, that's for sure. .

You’ll have to be more explicit than that, most millennials haven’t heard of black Monday and might assume it meant Amazon having a sale.

Same for us in NI, all our schools break up end of June and there is a huge exodus. Plus there is traditionally the ‘12th Fortnight’ which includes the 12th July, again very popular for holidays. There will be lots of postal voting.
