I think he will have a significant role but not as leader though no doubt he think he should be back at no. 10

It baffles me the amount of people who seem to care about how “we” look.
“we would be a laughing stock” etc. really?

Can anyone really be that naive??

Foreign investment... pretty simple really for anyone with any ability to see further than their nose.

atm investors are looking else where as we are not stable, name a G20 country that has had 4 PM's in 3 years & a PM that lasted less than 2 months (excluding death)

....that's 4 different fiscal policies for them to deal with.

pigcon1 · 20/10/2022 20:32

Even if he puts himself forward and is supported by the party to progress they will look like utter duffers…

I understand why they want it, he has a mandate, in their minds but no no no

StormzyinaTCup · 20/10/2022 20:32

theworldhas · 20/10/2022 20:16

who would make the best PM (among the electorate)
Starmer 43 vs Johnson 30
Starmer 40 vs Sunak 27
Starmer 42 vs Morduant 21

And remember that is PM, not Party. Starmer isn’t all that popular but still beats them all easily.

As far as 2024 General Election goes, Sunak will never be able to overcome his billionaire image during a cost of living crisis.

Morduant is just another random, with probably insufficient time to make that much of an impression. And she looks and sounds very, very Tory (of which I’d wager 70%+ of the electorate have had quite enough of by now).

Johnson is Johnson - except the wider electorate see through his antics/Boris the Clown brand now.

Who wants to lose in 2024? Sunak I guess. Two years as PM will look great on his CV before he goes back to the serious business of making money.

Another open goal for Labour, let's see if they can actually score this time. I'm not holding my breath though, such is the general calibre of politician these days

@noblegiraffe, Have you forgotten that Boris did not even take his full paternity leave when Will was born. Also he kept working even when he had Covid really badly and was put in intensive care following day. I don't know why people think he shirks on work when he has clearly demonstrated he has gone over and beyond what he had to do.

Did he really have covid?

jennakong · 20/10/2022 20:33

I quite liked him too. Not exactly PM material but who among them is?

It's like scrabbling through a drawerful of used batteries, trying to find the one that's least crap.

pigcon1 · 20/10/2022 20:38

I’m sure he did have covid

how could he have avoided it with all the mingling

as for going above and beyond, yes, he certainly has form for that

Clingfilm · 20/10/2022 20:44

How do I feel? Angry. He's a lying, lazy, celebrity who had his turn and made a mockery of the rules or parliament.

IndigoC · 20/10/2022 20:46

Boris has Mogg onside again, so a chunk of the right wingers. Might be able to crack 100, and if he does he’ll win with the members.

pigcon1 · 20/10/2022 20:48

So be it, they make the bed, they can lie in it

vera99 · 20/10/2022 20:51

He still has the standards and procedures committee to get through. He will not be allowed to win.

Boris is on a plane right now. He is coming back to take soundings from MP's. JRM is sounding out ERG group for block support. At the moment apparently 10 MP's have publicly given their support for Boris. 6 each for Sunak and Maudant. I would love Boris to come back. He got us those vaccines before Europe got them, allowing us to get out of lockdown. He supported people through pandemic with furlough. He got us out of EU. He saw off Corbyn and I would buy him a bloody big cake if he came back. He was elected on mandate of getting Brexit done, green jobs and levelling up. He should be given the remaining two years to see if he can make progress on these areas. I was listening to interview on the radio the other day with a city mayor. He said the leveling up money has only recently arrived and now his council will be considering how it is to be spent. I hope it goes to children who get free school meals for food in all school holidays.

The EU soon caught up on vaccines. Boris should have locked down at least a week earlier in March 2020 as UK had the advantage of covid taking root slightly lighter than countries like Italy who warned the U.K. to lock down. Also should have locked down in September 2020 rather than hanging on as result was a longer lockdown. U.K. had an above average death rate than Germany, Spain and France.

As for getting Brexit done. Both May and Johnson took the country out on a hard Brexit that has contributed significantly to our weak economy. (And Osborne and Cameron began the decline with austerity that decimated public services and led to slow economic growth) It is estimated Brexit has lost 4% of GDP. EU in same period has an increase of 15% GDP. This govt are still threatening to pull out of the Northern Ireland Protocol that they signed up for.

This 30 min video by the Financial Times details the negative financial effect of Brexit on the U.K.

This government belongs to Boris. Johnson is the only legitimate and rightful Leader. No back-stabbers can dream of ever wearing the crown. They'll fall at their own swords. Boris is the only one that can defeat Labour in the next General Election.

Bring Back Boris!

You are being sarcastic aren’t you?

Bacibaci · 20/10/2022 20:52

Typo above - later, not lighter.

Iamnotalemming · 20/10/2022 20:54

noblegiraffe · 20/10/2022 16:38

As I commented elsewhere, he didn't do much wrong.

Took bribes, appointed a Russian agent to the House of Lords against security advice, tried to amend parliamentary rules to get his corrupt mate Owen Paterson off the hook, whipping his MPs to vote for it then u-turned, appointed a known sex pest to deputy chief whip, gave Gavin Williamson a knighthood presumably as a bribe because Gav has dirt on him from his time as whip, did literally fuck all as prime minister over the summer despite impending financial crisis, is on holiday again now when he should be at work and is currently under investigation for deliberately misleading parliament.

But apart from that?

You forgot: decided that all the lockdown rules he put in place did not apply to him; lied to the Queen; generally presided over a deterioration of public standards in office that may not ever be recovered.

He is not fit for public office.

Iain Dale says Boris Johnson will win if he makes it to the last two in next week's Tory leadership election.

Bacibaci · 20/10/2022 20:55

Further to my comment, above all the public should be given a General Election and make the choice on who to lead us as this govt clearly can’t provide stability.

Bacibaci · 20/10/2022 20:57

generally presided over a deterioration of public standards in office that may not ever be recovered.

Johnson has caused so much damage for his own interests, but what you mention above is particularly egregious.

That’s a given he is the most popular with the members. He just needs to get enough mps to support him and be in the top two. As the bottom third one is kicked out. So it’s now about can he get enough mps to vote for him.

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2022 21:15

Nabbed this from elsewhere. So maybe re MPs and then vote

Johnson 42
Sunak 29
Mordaunt 16

sashagabadon · 20/10/2022 21:17

Boris is on 42, Rishi on 29 🙄🤔

Theskyisfullofbirds · 20/10/2022 21:22

Jazzandblues · 20/10/2022 20:10

I think it was all part of the plan for her to fail and for Boris to come back. Maybe they fooled her into believing that she could be an pm.

I can't understand why people want rishi when he has screwed us too.

Because he’s the best of a very bad bunch, the least worst option.

On Farage GB news tonight out of an audience of 150 in Deal Kent 3 people out 150 wanted Boris back.
