As far as I understand it, it's the case that it's still not affordable to many. But it has certainly increased coverage .
Still, a comercial based insurance system will never be able to cover all.

Lweji · 12/10/2016 13:25

Looking it up, this is an interesting article:
www.forbes.com/sites/robertlaszewski2/2015/08/17/has-obamacare-really-reduced-the-uninsured-by-16-million-and-continued-to-show-strong-growth/#55ffe0435cb4

According to this, Obamacare itself has had limited if any success (IMO not surprisingly when we're talking about what is still effectively private insurance, as I mentioned in my other post), but they say that
"The biggest [post-] Obamacare gains are coming from the Medicaid expansion. Something people get for free in the states that have expanded it under Obamacare."

This is not surprising, IMO, and gives some support for the need of a free health service, if the US really want to make sure everyone receives appropriate health care. Something that the US has resisted.

I should believe "Because as Scott Adams, Dilbert creator, " over established political researchers, why?

Because Scott Adms is independent, not "bought and paid for", not as Trump said "a small cog in a corporate political machine" of the "corrupt global establishment that is raiding our country".

But I'm independent and not bought and paid for either, nor am I any of those other things. So you should believe me. And I say Trump is an utterly incompetent, repellent, sleazeball who would be a disaster as President.

Kaija · 12/10/2016 14:00

Me too.

Kaija · 12/10/2016 14:02

So that's 2 against 1 so far. Think that's enough to pass for a democratic win nowadays.

Southallgirl · 12/10/2016 14:26

Someone upthread said that DT is racist. You do know that all of his wives are foreign with the exception of one - Marla.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/10/2016 14:29

What does that have to do with the price of eggs southallgirl?

merrymouse · 12/10/2016 14:29

Southallgirl, were you aware that it is possible to be foreign and white? I myself am not American, yet I have to admit that Donald and I have a similar white European racial background.

Breadandwine · 12/10/2016 14:30

Another one for Zuleika Grin

But keep going, Claig, I'm learning lots from posters destroying your 'arguments'. Grin

My hope now is that the Democrats don't just win the Presidency, but also take back both Houses of Congress. Then we'd see Obamacare (to take one example) really take off!

About Trump supporters - I read somewhere that they have a median income of around $70,000? So not the poor and downtrodden, then (if that's true).

ZuleikaDobson · 12/10/2016 14:34

Southall, please don't tell us that you really believe that Donald Trump cannot be racist based on the fact that he has married two white non-Americans?

I'd remind you of a post upthread:

"In 1991, a book by John O’Donnell, who had been president of the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, quoted Trump as criticizing a black accountant and saying: “Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day. … I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault, because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.” O’Donnell wrote that for months afterward, Trump pressed him to fire the black accountant, until the man resigned of his own accord.

Trump eventually denied making those comments. But in 1997 in a Playboy interview, he conceded “the stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true.”

merrymouse · 12/10/2016 14:35

All of Donald's wives have been women. Hasn't stopped him acting like a sexist dick.

Kaija · 12/10/2016 14:37

"All his wives are foreign" Grin

Southallgirl · 12/10/2016 14:46

don't tell us that you really believe that Donald Trump cannot be racist based on the fact that he has married two white non-Americans?

You mean the way that loads of ethnicities do not marry out?

Roussette · 12/10/2016 15:01

This sums up Trump. At times you could almost feel sorry for him.

Boosiehs · 12/10/2016 15:06

Southall girl, are you really arguing that Donald Trump, who called all Mexican immigrants rapists and drug smugglers, and who wanted to prevent all muslims entering the US, ISN't racist?????

Lweji · 12/10/2016 15:12

Another "establishment trick", I'm sure. Grin

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/oct/12/footballer-banter-donald-trump-locker-room-insults
"In 20 years as a footballer, I never heard ‘banter’ like Trump’s comments"

Southallgirl · 12/10/2016 15:28

Boosiehs I am not arguing anything. I am puzzled as to Zuleika's comment which says that DT must be racist because each time he married white women. Worldwide, most ethnicities marry within. He may well have racist feelings but Zuleika saying he marries only white women is hardly meaningful.

Kaija · 12/10/2016 15:49

Zuleika didn't say that Confused

merrymouse · 12/10/2016 16:05

"please don't tell us that you really believe that Donald Trump cannot be racist based on the fact that he has married two white non-Americans?"

Which part of this statement says that marrying white people makes you racist? Did you misread it Southallgirl?

Kaija · 12/10/2016 16:10

This is getting quite confusing

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 12/10/2016 17:39

kaija

I will join you on the confused bench if i may

So south said he cant be racist because he has married non american zuk points out that they are white so not a different "race" and then south manages to extrapolate from that that zuk thinks that if a white person marries a white person that makes them racist

Have i got that right?

Cos a lot confuses me and it would be quite handy to knock one of those confusing things off my list

WinchesterWoman · 12/10/2016 19:06

Claig another couple for you
Chicago Tribune Clinton open borders pledge
sample:
'It's Hillary Clinton's dream of an America without borders, as expressed to investors of a Brazilian bank, in comments leaked by WikiLeaks.
"My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders, sometime in the future with energy that's as green and sustainable as we can get it, powering growth and opportunity for every person in the hemisphere," Clinton reportedly said to investors in a paid speech she gave to Brazilian Banco Itau in 2013.

Here's the thing about borders. If you don't have borders, you don't have a country. Americans are beginning to understand this. Europeans understand it now, quite clearly.

Clinton's dream also includes a Western Hemispheric common market, like the European common market that is dissolving in chaos, fear and debt.

If that is indeed her dream, then she dreams the internationalist dream that would end America. But Americans aren't talking about this, perhaps because there is no video involving sex and Hollywood and Trump.

I would love to hear Clinton's explanation. Perhaps she could put it in some proper context.

Or perhaps she was merely telling the Brazilians something they wanted to hear, because they were paying her a good chunk of cash.

And if there is a way for America to maintain sovereignty without borders, Hillary might be just the one to tell us. But the Clinton campaign isn't commenting. And reporters aren't really pressing, preoccupied as they are by that vulgar video of a boorish Trump.'

and this
Soon the voters

WinchesterWoman · 12/10/2016 19:11

can't read in with the marriages thing
is it interesting enough to bother?

WinchesterWoman · 12/10/2016 19:14

I think Bill trolled Hillary on Obamacare and how bad it is for those squeaking by.
