just started watching it. If as Claig says 'they' turned up the microphone each time he inhaled to make it sound like he is sniffing, how did 'they' also arrange for his nostrils to contract each time the sniffing noise happened?

claig · 10/10/2016 12:29

'how did 'they' also arrange for his nostrils to contract each time the sniffing noise happened?'

Hollywood CGI video editing software and technology, as hi-tech as it gets. They have spared no expense because if Trump beats them, it is over for them.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/10/2016 12:35

wow, real time editing. Amazing how far technology has come....
Perhaps not Claig.

You know it would be ok if it were just cos he has a drippy nose. Even horrid vile people are allowed drippy noses without being condemned for it. Shame his Mum never showed him how to use a hanky though.

fourmummy · 10/10/2016 12:35

The Establishment is a tiny circle of very rich people.

It's not only individuals. It's also a zeitgeist, institutionalised in many forms, both formal (the law, security institutions, medicine, politics, education) and informal, such as the language we use, hegemonic thinking styles, current definitions for things. I see the Establishment as a 'spirit of the age' (both positive and negative, and obviously, changeable, depending on who, at the time, has the power to define things).

Winchester The n-word. Any abusive language is horrible, but I was drawing attention to the fact that we accept a lot of it (some factions simultaneously offer some resistance, of course) due to the above (if we didn't, we wouldn't see or hear it). For example, it is currently acceptable for black artists to 'reclaim' the word and use it freely in society (even though it's highly abusive and many, many people hate hearing it). We might make noise about our sexist or racist culture but we tolerate it nevertheless because the above institutions are powerful in defining what is acceptable behaviour for men and women and what isn't. We may hate the way rap positions women but we nevertheless tolerate it for various reasons (reasons = there's some truth in portraying women in this way, it makes money, it's 'creative', free speech, we can't ban it, etc. etc.).

Again, don't be daft.

Roussette · 10/10/2016 13:32

I've just caught up on the bits I missed last night. He sniffs! It is not CGI, he sniffed live!

The syria portion of this debate is pretty gobsmacking with regard to DT's complete and utter lack of knowledge.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 13:34

Fourmummy: you're articulating a lot of what I feel about the establishment and the apathetic helplessness of ordinary people in the face of it, until Trump/Corbyn/Brexit/Sanders came along. The n word can we agree to disagree. I don't think it's a zeitgeist thing that it's unacceptable. It has a history. Obviously I totally agree with you about women in rap.

NightWanderer · 10/10/2016 13:42

I kind of wish that as they didn't shake hands at the beginning of the debate, then Hilary should have gone in for a crotch grab. She's rich and powerful, so that's socially acceptable, apparently.

fourmummy · 10/10/2016 13:54

Winchester - of course! Off to do some work. Interesting times.

Lweji · 10/10/2016 15:13

Grin

I'm sure she wouldn't have gone for it with less than a hazmat suit and pliers, though.

Inkanta · 10/10/2016 15:15

'Hilary should have gone in for a crotch grab.'

Yes - or been seen to nearly grab and pull away last minute.

That would have secured her more votes!

ZuleikaDobson · 10/10/2016 15:40

When you have to make a conspiracy theory out of his sniffing, you are showing your desperation.

LineyReborn · 10/10/2016 16:19

I think claig is doing irony. Like the Honey G of politics.

claig · 10/10/2016 16:37

Never heard of Honey G. Just googled her.

"When I say Honey, you say G
Big it up! Mash it up!"

Stump for Trump!

So, to conclude, the Establishment is everything and nothing depending on what argument is being advanced.

Trump's first appointment would be Humpty Dumpty as his media adviser.

claig · 10/10/2016 16:40

'Trump's first appointment would be Humpty Dumpty as his media adviser.'

No, Trump has no time for Jeb Bush.

OP posts:
LineyReborn · 10/10/2016 16:41

To be brutally honest, on the X-Factor thread, it's been somewhat changed to 'I say Honey, you say Fuck Off', but that kind of fits with the zeitgeist. Anyway, I think you were being ironic with the CGI stuff, claig.

Lweji · 10/10/2016 16:42

So, to conclude, the Establishment is everything and nothing depending on what argument is being advanced.

Yes, that's what we "concluded" a few threads ago.

Funnily enough, Trump is, not only, now a "politician", as he recognised himself in the debate as it dawned on him (doh), as if he wins the election, but he will become Establishment per one of the definitions (IIRC, even claig agreed then).

Lweji · 10/10/2016 16:43

No, Trump has no time for Jeb Bush.

Will he make time for Billy, though?

claig · 10/10/2016 16:43

'Anyway, I think you were being ironic with the CGI stuff, claig.'

Absolutely, and with the backstage person turning up the mic sound whenever Trump breathed in. We all know the Establishment are desperate, but not quite that desperate yet. They are saving that for debate 3, when it is make or break for them. Wink

What we are watching is truly amazing. I saw Hillary interviewed on her plane after the debate and she said the Establishment supplied line "Trump is unfit to be President" and it struck me then even more strongly that the Establishment is going to lose. She is the face and voice of the Establishment and whatever they throw against Trump will not work now because the people know that they are all against Trump and say he is "unfit" Get ready for a Trump victory. It is going to be yuuge, as Trump says. The elite cannot comprehend what is happening to them. Tony Blair says he no longer "understands" what is going on in politics. It is over for the lot of them.

This was the song that every Brexiteer hummed and whistled on their way to work in the UK in the face of the lies and the spin.

Now it has spread to the States and Trump fans sing it at rallies as the revolution draws to a close

The legendary Muse and the song of the people. Never mind Honey G, this is the real deal.

BBC saying that Hillary won the debate, quoting the CNN poll yet again Smile

Spin, spin, spin. The last gasps of the spinners as power spins out of their grasp.

Breaking news. Same old, same old. Heard it all before like how Remain was ahead of Brexit by 10 points the night before the vote.

"Hillary Clinton leads by 11 per cent in new poll, as mass exodus of support for Donald Trump continues after tape scandal"

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/10/america-reacts-to-donald-trump-calling-hillary-clinton-the-devil/

As election day approaches, the whoppers will get larger and the Establishment will probably have to pull the old "punishment budget" out again.
