What happens if Trump wins?

I know the comments Trump has made about blocking Muslims from the USA, and building a wall between the states and Mexico. But what will the world look like if he becomes president? People seem to be afraid of his success and suggest we 'should push the button now' or that he will be assassinated. Surely he comments are to stir up media interest?

And to think there was a time on here when all we had to worry about was people trying to sell us pushchairs...

Lweji · 07/08/2016 14:40

OTOH, no self respecting Putin agent would be too obvious. Unless it was a double bluff. Confused

Anyway, between the DM journos and Putin's moles, it's a minefield, yes.

claig · 07/08/2016 14:45

'Anyway, between the DM journos and Putin's moles, it's a minefield, yes.'

And Azealia Banks as well, and Loretta Lynn and Kirstie Alley and Clint Eastwood, they all support Trump.

claig · 07/08/2016 14:48

And then there are the famous Stump for Trump Sisters, Diamond and Silk. They probably have to clear all their video scripts with Putin before they stump for Trump.

Kaija · 07/08/2016 14:50

All four of them! Imagine how long we would be here if we had to list all the celebrities and public figures who have warned against Trump... But I suppose those would be the "elites"

claig · 07/08/2016 14:53

'Imagine how long we would be here if we had to list all the celebrities and public figures who have warned against Trump'

Absolutely, we know Hollywood is for the Democrats, it always is. Trump just has the people.

Kaija · 07/08/2016 15:00

You're quite right. Celebrity endorsements are never worth paying much attention to. And by the same token Clint Eastwood et al can fuck right off as well.

claig · 07/08/2016 15:07

'Celebrity endorsements are never worth paying much attention to'

I think they do tend to help which is why Labour always use figures like Eddie Izzard and Steve Coogan and the Establishment always uses Sir Bob Gumdrop.

Hillary definitely has more celebrities backing her, she even has half the Republican Establishment backing her as well as the media, but we will have to see if that is enough to beat Trump coming polling day. It all ultimately depends on what the American people want.

lljkk · 07/08/2016 15:08

I imagine Clinton's deleted emails are mostly ...

"I'd like the white wine at tonite's State dept. dinner, please."
and
"Do you like the blue or red dress better on me, Chelsea?"

and other scintillating decisions.

Lweji · 07/08/2016 15:17

Right

14 rappers that endorse Clinton, from Snoop Dogg to whoever I don't know:
www.xxlmag.com/news/2016/04/rappers-endorsing-hillary-clinton/

Numerous celebrities, from a quick google:

www.cbsnews.com/pictures/celebrities-who-support-hillary-clinton-election-2016/
Including Sigourney Weaver, Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Lady Gaga, Julianne Moore, Kerry Washington, Robert de Niro, Beyonce, The Kim, Katy Perry, Magic Johnson, Pharell, Salma Hayek, Lena Dunham, Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johanson, Jim Parsons, Ellen DeGeneres, Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx, Reese Witherspoon, Steven Spielberg, Drew Barrimore, Angela Bassett.
Some of them, even black!

claig · 07/08/2016 15:20

Yes, the rich, the powerful, the famous, the influential, Wall Street, the elite and the Establishment back Hillary.

Trump only has the people at his rallies and his supporters among the ordinary people to rely on. He can't count on support from the elites, they dislike him.

Lweji · 07/08/2016 15:21

Claig, the American people, according to the polls have consistently and expressively been saying Clinton.

If Trump wins in November, it will be by of those flukes that has happened occasionally during the campaign.

claig · 07/08/2016 15:22

It is similar with Corbyn against the 172. The 172 have the media, the Establishment, the Lords, the Ladies and the luvvies. Corbyn only has the millions of Corbynistas.

Chippednailvarnishing · 07/08/2016 15:22

Ahhh Snoop Dog, the bastion of decent morals and intelligent political debate.

Lweji · 07/08/2016 15:23

But, claig, you choose to report endorsements by some elite members. Do they count or not?
(I don't care about endorsements - you're the one who keep banging us with them)

The people dislike Trump. He has a very high disapproval rate in the US.

claig · 07/08/2016 15:24

'Claig, the American people, according to the polls have consistently and expressively been saying Clinton. '

I wouldn't put too much faith in the "polls". Just like in Brexit, where on the eve of polling, the team told us that Remain was 10 points ahead of Leave, they got it wrong.

Lweji · 07/08/2016 15:25

Ahhh Snoop Dog, the bastion of decent morals and intelligent political debate.

Well, if we're going to include rappers, we wouldn't have much choice. Grin

claig · 07/08/2016 15:26

'But, claig, you choose to report endorsements by some elite members. Do they count or not?'

I have said, I think they have an effect which is why Labour uses Eddie Izzard and the Establishment uses the tried and tested Sir Bob Gumdrop.

Lweji · 07/08/2016 15:26

I seem to remember that the polls did indicate that Brexit could win.

Lweji · 07/08/2016 15:27

But pathetic small numbers of endorsements and by virtual unknowns, mean what?
What are you trying to say when you post that someone endorsed Trump?

SwedishEdith · 07/08/2016 15:30

Full list of polls

Lweji · 07/08/2016 15:32

So, Trump has 60% unfavourable and 30% favourable.
Vs 50% unfavourable and 40% favourable by Clinton .

elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/donald-trump-favorable-rating
elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/hillary-clinton-favorable-rating

And btw, you do know that for the most part, polls do predict election results.

claig · 07/08/2016 15:33

'I seem to remember that the polls did indicate that Brexit could win.'

Yes, the accurate polls.

"The Remain Camp Got A Poll Boost on the Eve of the Brexit Vote
...
A telephone survey by polling firm ComRes, conducted for the Daily Mail newspaper and ITV television showed the “Remain” campaign had a 48% to 42% lead over “Leave.”

fortune.com/2016/06/23/brexit-poll-eu-referendum-remain/

I wouldn't be surprised if we hear a similar thing on the eve of polling in the US.

claig · 07/08/2016 15:36

'What are you trying to say when you post that someone endorsed Trump?'

That famous figures like Azealia Banks, Loretta Lynn, Kirstie Alley and Clint Eastwood back Trump and don't believe he is like Hitler as the media tries to portray him.

As Azealia herself tweeted

'In one, she blamed 'the Liberal media' for branding Trump as a 'symbol of hatred.'

It sounds like she is wise to the tricks.

Lweji · 07/08/2016 15:38

Claig, and I'm trying to be patient here, current polls for the election in the US show a variety of results. Right now, all give a victory to Clinton. It's only on occasion that Trump has gone ahead and by a small margin.
We don't know which is the most accurate, but unlike for the Referendum, where it was difficult to say which way, right now and consistently, Clinton has been ahead and a people's favourite. You cannot dispute that or claim otherwise.
