This is the 3rd thread in a series.

It is for people who are horrified, frustrated and downright sad at the erosion of human rights with respect to how this country is being run, just now and in the recent past

it is apolitical in nature, but of course due to many recent initiatives by the recent govt, there will be rants against our current "leaders"

please join in

I shall post the link to the old threads, our "Too Many Cuts #Frothers" blog that is attracting a lot of widespread attention and a little bit of what we are about in a moment

Hello all

Sorry I've been bogged down in RL stuff and just catching up.

MmeL excellent work on Twitter giving Grant Shapps what for - well done!

Link dumpers some good stuff but please, a new tab to put it in. We need to be really, really easy to engage with and have easy stuff to download/access.

Urgent petition what is the urgent petition needed by the 12th please? Can you give me a full link?

I have drafted the mission statement and strategy and I'm just trying to catch up to make sure everything is covered and then will upload for critiquing. I've not name checked anyone (because I can't keep up and because you know who you are!!) so if your idea is not there or is condensed with someone else's please don't think it's because it wasn't brilliant. It will be because I have waded through 3000 ish posts and tweets and I have lost track.

If anyone could summarise the last 24 hours for me that would be super. Smile

Just to update on where I'm at (have been madly tweeting, FBing and posting on other threads!): I am planning an employment article but won't be until next week at earliest. Possibly following week because I need to fact check and verify because it will have my RL professional name on it However, I am planning to write a post about The View From My Ivory Tower. I am currently very lucky. We all have our health and only minor SN for DS (which hopefully cured by surgery next week), DH works in a good job and I have been able to study, we have enough to eat and our house is warm. But I have eyes and I can see others suffering. I also know my lifestyle is very, very fragile and could go at any time. Even with all that good fortune there are things that are starting to touch me and my life, even up in my Ivory Tower and I hope by writing about that we could prick the conscience of a few more people.

Broadband back up! Whoop!

Loved the latest blog post!

MmeLindor. · 08/12/2011 13:53

Hunty
Great post. Can you add one or two of your examples - where you worked out the financial implications for different situations.

Or in fact, why don't you post your blog as it is and do a separate one with all the calculations? They really helped me to actually understand the issue.

Grant has not replied to my last tweets. :(

azazello · 08/12/2011 13:53

My lunch break has got a bit frothy today when I read this: www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/dec/07/cutting-disabled-ill-people-benefits

Is Zoe a frother? She might be willing to retweet.

MmeLindor. · 08/12/2011 13:58

Have made your links prettier, Hunty and put the quotes in a box.

Looks really good .

KateFrothers · 08/12/2011 13:59

Zoe is definitely someone we should be targeting. Along with Lucy Mangan, Suzanne Moore, Bidisha and lots of other good sorts.

Te your post made me cry a bit. It was beautifully written.

MmeLindor. · 08/12/2011 14:01

Aza
Great link, will tweet Zoe

This is the important bit

They present something jaw-dropping, encounter a wave of disgust, then row back from the brink of awfulness by 30% (George Osborne probably has a little rowing-backwards calculator, which multiplies the strength of the public backlash by the amount he doesn't care). We all throw back our heads in relief, yelling a lusty "Thank goodness! You only have to work two days a week when you have terminal cancer, and not five!", and "Children in poverty won't have to pay commission on their parental support!". The mood has been assuaged; the saving made. It's genius, really, because even as I'm describing it, that doesn't dent my susceptibility. I still think of the forestry U-turn as a victory for the little guy, rather than an outrageous idea, canned because it was stupid.

CardyMow · 08/12/2011 14:10

Oh - BTW - if you Google 'TooManyCuts Blog' ... THE BLOG IS THE TOP RESULT!!! YAY! We are now officially Google-able!

CardyMow · 08/12/2011 14:11

Ta MmeLindor - Not great at making it look pretty!

KateFrothers · 08/12/2011 14:18

Oh yes I googled "too many cuts blog" and "too many cuts frothers" and we were top last night.

I'm trying to access the blog and FB etc via Google to keep it up. And while I'm here... just to mention toomanycuts.blogspot.com Grin

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 08/12/2011 14:21

good plan - will keep googling and clicking links.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 08/12/2011 14:29

good post hunty. i've only just gotten child maintenance sorted after over 4.5yrs of receiving nothing and now my case will be closed Confused ds's father refuses contact with ds or me and we have no contact details for him so a private agreement is literally impossible.

froth, froth, froth!

taxing kids - joy. punishing women for men's fecklessness - joy. profitting on what is essentially crime? hmm.

KateFrothers · 08/12/2011 14:38

I've just spotted that Frothers Twitter bird on the blog. hahahahahahahaha!

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 08/12/2011 14:48

The only thing that tops this on Google, when you put in "Too many cuts" is something on YouTube!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/12/2011 14:51

Checking in Brew

Excellent post Te, so poignant, so true

And excellent post too Hunty - How can anyone in their right mind think that these changes are the right way to move forward?
Madness.
Total madness.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 08/12/2011 14:54

Zoe Williams has responded on Twitter!

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 08/12/2011 15:05

no one thinks they're right but single mums and their children have long been singled out as legitimate targets by politicians and the media so they know they can get away with it. and it is flagrant evidence of how much misogyny is brought to bear - women being charged for men's fecklessness.

KateFrothers · 08/12/2011 15:10
Shock

ShirleyKnot · 08/12/2011 15:10

THe incredible part is how much squirming done on BEHALF of these arseholes - that's what I can't get my head round - it's all "Well, you shouldn't have had kids with such an irresponsible pig", "You shouldn't have let yourself be financially dependant" "I know a bloke who pays xxx amount a month and he doesn;t get to see his kids"...

blah fucking blah.

And yet again the majority just gets shafted.

KateFrothers · 08/12/2011 15:15

Hunty your blog post has just been picked up by a major journo! Am watching to see what happens next...

Aw thanks SGM Smile You are one of us too. Lurking, RTing etc it all counts.

Heck, just reading stuff makes a difference.

CardyMow · 08/12/2011 16:21

I'm not here really! (I have to shove lamb stew down the dc in a sec before going to their Christmas Carol concert, just popped on while DS3 has a bf).
