This is the 3rd thread in a series.

It is for people who are horrified, frustrated and downright sad at the erosion of human rights with respect to how this country is being run, just now and in the recent past

it is apolitical in nature, but of course due to many recent initiatives by the recent govt, there will be rants against our current "leaders"

please join in

I shall post the link to the old threads, our "Too Many Cuts #Frothers" blog that is attracting a lot of widespread attention and a little bit of what we are about in a moment

Watching from down here, there are three things that have stopped Australia going the same way as the UK is right now. Mining is one of them, but a smaller element once you look at the actual figures than you'd think. The second is that we retained a Labor govt by the skin of our teeth. Wherever you stand ideologically, it's recorded fact that the Australian version of the Tories are champing at the bit to copy the actions seen in the UK for purely ideological reasons. Thirdly and most importantly, we have greater banking regulations and didn't face a bail out, but the governments main tactic when the GFC hit was to pump money into the economy not to take it away. Essentially, they went the Keynesian way.

All of that is a long winded way of saying that Tina is a lie - there are plenty of alternatives. The only reason for the government to pretend there are no other options is that admitting they making ideological choices would soon lose them support and would expose the heaping of blame on the already vulnerable for the pack of lies it is.

Grumpy - welcome to the horrible anger. It's tough and we all urge one another to take to break when it gets too much...

however - A post from an NHS front line worker would be incredible - I would be happy to help you, PM me (

thanks AnyFuckerForAMincePie (yes please if you're offering btw!) couldn't find it...will look again though...

we could go to downing street to froth, we could march, we could hold ed miliband accountable that he supports the frothers - as he said in his webchat..

@ LoremIpsum - the govt here can't lose anymore support than they've already lost....great points though

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 07/12/2011 22:20

The government's own advisory committee on workfare was very clear: "We recommend that mandatory work activity does not proceed."

They are not even taking their own advice.

The report of the Social Security Advisory Committee made under section 174(2) of the social security administration act 1992 on the Jobseekers Allowance (Mandatory work activity) regulations 2011

CardyMow · 07/12/2011 22:27

I'm having a few days break from actively frothing due to RL, but I am still keeping up with the thread. I have started to write a blog post about ESA and the rules for the terminally ill, but it may take me a few days. Blooming busy week, what with school things and stuff.

Plus, I MUST get an early night! If you see me on here after 11pm - tell me to go to bed please. Grin.

Thanks ShirleyKnot - am a bit of a technophobe! Will start working on some thoughts.

More things I am worried about:

  1. Legal loophole allows UK banks to underwrite £250 million in bonds for cluster bomb manufacturers.
  2. British made CS gas being used in Egypt.
  3. London 2012 - huge amounts of cash spent, taxed from the whole nation. Any cash brought in - Londoncentric.

I know they're not strictly cuts stuff but 1&2 are double bloody standards - it's ok to commit crime if you're a wealthy crony and only Johnnie Foreigner gets hurt...

HedleyLamarr · 07/12/2011 22:45

TeWihara, your e-mail to me had no link to your blog post. Please send it again.

Hunty, your boy is amazing!

From about an hour on till 7 tomorrow I'm indisposed 'cos of sleep and work, but anyone who wants proofreading is welcome to send it to me. Like I said, Lubey has my e-mither.

You lot are fucking awe-inspiring. You nest of vipers. I think I'm in love Wink

FontSnob · 07/12/2011 22:46

I'd forgotten how addictive Statcounter is...

MmeLindor. · 07/12/2011 22:46

Did you see that twet about the tax that Vodaphone pays?

I tried to link Gransnet to this thread, but guess what? They don't allow GNetters to link to threads on MN. Apparently cause they think we might have a bunfight.

Don't they know we are all terrified of the GNetters. My MUM is on there. She would wipe the floor with me.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 07/12/2011 22:48

Gah! Did you get the second one or did it not attach again?!

Might just copy and paste the bloody thing.
