Politics

I'm not quite a frothing berserker but I am getting rather cross with our government messing with the good stuff.

Just off the top of my head:

  • Student fees
  • Public sector workers terms and conditions (otherwise known as moving the goal posts after the match has started)
  • Women (Report on Fawcett legal challenge result here)
  • Sure Start
  • NHS
  • Erosion of employment rights
  • Removal of EMA
  • Removal of universal child benefit
  • Unfair changes to DLA
  • Unfair changes to ESA assessment

I am getting more and more fed up that these decisions are being made to take away some of the things we should be most proud of and that took years to be achieved.

This thread is a safe haven for some ranting as I know some of us are feeling sick and tired of it all.

Ok, I'm ready to be shouted at here, but surely the issues we have now financially began when Labour were in government? Don't get me wrong, I think not enough is being done by the current incumbents to address the deficit in the correct manner, ie protecting the nhs etc rather than financing international events; but in general I think all politicians need to get a better grip on budgets. Voting in a new government won't get rid of our financial problems in this country.

Let the shouting begin... Unless you agree with me?

AF It's just feeling that none of the buggers even in opposition are LISTENING! Didn't someone once say something like, 'It's not the despair, it's the hope that gets me down.' Sometimes I wish I could just say sod it and maintain an 'I'm alright Jack' attitude. But I am an optimist at heart and I always think things can chancge even when it's clear the whole world is going to hell in a handcart.

Am taking DS to the central London march and rally tomorrow. Anyone going?

Science this is not about who is to blame for the problem. This isn't Question Time - we'll tackle the questions asked, not what we have written on our piece of paper and descend into a toddler scrap about who started it. This is about cutting the good stuff and how it is not right.

Especially when we have the money to fund huge defence budget and reduces taxes for the very wealthy. Not to mention giving jobs to tax dodgers (Philip Green anyone?).

Well yes, Labour's record is pretty unattractive TBH - they brought in the horrid private sector medical assessments for disabled claimants and many other things. And they splurged lots of money on crap which contributed to the deficit situation.

But the Tories' dedication to screwing up the university system and the NHS is in a class of its own.

Not usually a frothing type, but I think I just dribbled a little.

SGM I personally feel that all politicians are as bad as each other and every political party is equal in their desire to line their own fucking pockets, along with the big financial institutions

even under Labour, there are too few people with too much of the money and power

so it's not about blame as such for me, but about what we all stand to lose

I am here and ready for action!

Don't forget cuts to higher education & research!

All this Big Society bollocks is just part of trying to privatise everything.

Brilliant. In that case I'm on board with anyone that has any sensible suggestions. Complete agreement that something should change.

Welcomes Science to the fold.

Maybe our motto should be "It doesn't matter who started it, what matters is how you're going to finish it".

Although I do like "Get your filthy, grabbing hands off all that is good an right in this country, you lying, thieving bastards". But I do worry it's a bit long...

Count me in!

They won't listen, they don't give a flying fuck about us and our children and their futures, and are so wrapped up in their own careers and personal wealth it's fucking evil.

I could vomit, I'm so angry!

It's about time we made them listen. I'm in on any forward planning.

This government is made up of amoral, feculent creatures who are using the current financial crisis to pursue an ideological campaign to dismantle the welfare state.

Thoroughly agree with leaving out origins debate. Twill distract and sideline. What we need to do is STOP WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW!
