Christian Prayer Thread:- God of all faithfulness - from the old into the new

The Dippy household is still full of colds and pressure, so I thought it would be good to have a new prayer thread just on the last day of the old year, looking forward to the new.

There are three prayer needs that I think need flagging up:-

David and Fiona Fulton, with their children Iona and Luke and adopted baby Elizabeth. They are missionaries in the Gambia and have been jailed for a year in a very tough prison. here. Only a mighty God can deal with a tough problem by way of a mighty miracle. We need to pray.

Then there is the family of Emily May Hughes, known to NotSoFarNow who was killed because her father dropped a television on her head and she died. here. The horror of such an accident is too much to contemplate. We need to pray.

The third prayer request comes from Weeteeny who posted on a different thread: Dear God, if you exist and I believe you do, then please help my friend tonight. This is a young mother of children aged 14 and 12 who is in hospital with an infection that is not very responsive to antibiotics. There is no recent update. here. We need to pray.

These are the three prayer requests that I think are the most important just at the moment.

But there are a lot of us that are struggling with problems that are not too small for our God to consider and care about.
Mary, with sickness in the family and ongoing concern about her parents-in-law. Giving thanks for the release of P.
Amber with difficulties in getting the help she needs.
Swaliswan needing a special light bulb.
FAQ struggling with family relationships.
RevJusta, coming to terms with an early miscarriage.
Zipadisuzy with poorly children.

And some of us struggle with issues of faith:- Hullygully, who feels like the black sheep; be assured that especially the black sheep are much loved by God.
Trickcyclist who started a thread: I want a religion - who will have me. here

Let us continue to care for one another, to pray for one another and to praise God for His blessings in the year just gone by and in the year to come.

Praying Soozie for your DH and his job, I love all your bouncings, lighting up the prayer thread . Is it his left or his right arm? And you are not being at all selfish, you silly girl!

Praying also for the success of your venture BT, sounds very worthwhile. Good luck with the carbon fast too - sounds like something I SHOULD be doing

And prayers for you too NSFN, and for all in need of God's comforting touch.

Prayer for today is "Lord help me to rest on you, not on what I do for you".

I thought this was very profound. Today's article was all about being so busy rushing around "being a Christian and ministering to others" that we lose sight of Christ. So take time to take stock, and allow yourself to feel God in you. Be like Mary once in a while (not me!) and just sit at Jesus' feet a bit, and not too much of a Martha.

CaptainCaveman · 24/02/2009 10:01

Tired, fed-up and sad today. Thanks so much for your prayers - waiting to see what happens next.

Oliver is waking at night more than ever, so I'm exhausted and I go back to work on MOnday!

Dsis continues to drink and thinks it will all be fixed by her moving back in with our parents either at Easter or in summer hols. She doesn't seem to realise her liver may not last until then

Am also struggling with bf as O won't take a bottle at all. Starting to resent feeding him

PandaG · 24/02/2009 10:10

hugs CC. praying for you, that O will sleep, that he will take a bottle so you can leave him, and that you will enjoy and not resent him. I do so know what you mean about resenting feeding them, you are not alone.

praying for your sis and niece too. xx

Mary - so often it feels like I haven't got the time to just be with God, will try to be a bit more of a Mary today.

NSFN - praying for the right result for your interview. how is your DD doing?

DO - fab news, big congratulations to you and DD! (and at FAQ putting 2and2 together at last!)

I have to concentrate on college work fo rth e rest of the day - got lots to do. spent my free time last week doing unpaid but necessary stuff for paid job - already done 1.5 hours of that this morning.

love to you all.x

Notquitegrownup · 24/02/2009 11:08

Good morning, and huge congratulations to DO.

BT - thank you for the link to the Tearfund Carbon Fast. I've signed up and have recommended it to my housegroup too. Great idea.

Sooz - prayers for dh and grrrr for A & E not doing the manipulation when they should have. Prayers that your Father God will be looking after you all whilst dh recovers again.

God bless all.

If I could tell you that the noted
theologian Pretty candles would like to say you that all this praying for people you don't know is intercessory prayer and doesn't work. You have to know the people you are praying for apparently. If it makes you feel better though I wouldnt stop
on her account.

MaryBSearchingForaJob · 25/02/2009 07:52

That's interesting, interregnum. Many people think any sort of prayer doesn't work. However this un-noted theologian believes it does work, whether or not we know the person concerned, and it isn't about us feeling better at all!

Praying for Dawn's dsis, her precious unborn son, and all who are in need of prayer.

mufti · 25/02/2009 08:01

apart from it being a little off to come on here to talk about someone else ,INTERREGNUM, you appear to be telling us someones opinion.
if you had seen evidence of prayers being answered you may feel differently

BouncingTurtle · 25/02/2009 08:19

I for one can't see the harm in praying for someone I don't know. After all generally we often pray for people we don't know - when we pray about world issues, or poverty or other issues.
Doesn't mean it is pointless. Every prayer is a candle that lights up a little bit of the dark.

Why do you feel you need to come onto this thread and quote another MNers opinion? Does Prettycandles know you have this?

MaryBSearchingForaJob · 25/02/2009 08:21

Actually, if you see the other thread (and I hadn't till now), she's telling us her opinion of someone else's opinion, and is actually deliberately misinterpreting Pretty Candles.

So on that basis, interregnum, consider yourself on my prayer list of people to be prayed for

webstermum · 25/02/2009 08:55

I don't know what other thread you're talking about but this is a prayerful sanctuary so if you haven't got anything nice to say Interregnum please don't say anything.

I don't 'know' anyone on here but I am happy to pray and be prayed for

Prayers today please for the re-opening of our Church tonight after 8 months of refurbishment. Pray that all the hard work will be worthwhile & that our Community will come and see the light

BouncingTurtle · 25/02/2009 09:58
