Christian Prayer Thread:- God of all faithfulness - from the old into the new

The Dippy household is still full of colds and pressure, so I thought it would be good to have a new prayer thread just on the last day of the old year, looking forward to the new.

There are three prayer needs that I think need flagging up:-

David and Fiona Fulton, with their children Iona and Luke and adopted baby Elizabeth. They are missionaries in the Gambia and have been jailed for a year in a very tough prison. here. Only a mighty God can deal with a tough problem by way of a mighty miracle. We need to pray.

Then there is the family of Emily May Hughes, known to NotSoFarNow who was killed because her father dropped a television on her head and she died. here. The horror of such an accident is too much to contemplate. We need to pray.

The third prayer request comes from Weeteeny who posted on a different thread: Dear God, if you exist and I believe you do, then please help my friend tonight. This is a young mother of children aged 14 and 12 who is in hospital with an infection that is not very responsive to antibiotics. There is no recent update. here. We need to pray.

These are the three prayer requests that I think are the most important just at the moment.

But there are a lot of us that are struggling with problems that are not too small for our God to consider and care about.
Mary, with sickness in the family and ongoing concern about her parents-in-law. Giving thanks for the release of P.
Amber with difficulties in getting the help she needs.
Swaliswan needing a special light bulb.
FAQ struggling with family relationships.
RevJusta, coming to terms with an early miscarriage.
Zipadisuzy with poorly children.

And some of us struggle with issues of faith:- Hullygully, who feels like the black sheep; be assured that especially the black sheep are much loved by God.
Trickcyclist who started a thread: I want a religion - who will have me. here

Let us continue to care for one another, to pray for one another and to praise God for His blessings in the year just gone by and in the year to come.

I have a hotline to God, don't need a PC then...

CaptainCaveman · 06/01/2009 10:32

AW, little man no.1 got off to school fine. He was telling anyone within earshot that he was going to school today, that it was his first day, and that he had a banana in his bag for breaktime. This included telling the other 30 odd kids who were stood in the same line, also on their first day at school . He also told the secretary in the office, and the teacher who collected them all from the front door . I think he might enjoy it... PRAISE GOD!!

CaptainDippy · 06/01/2009 11:21

So pleased CC DD1 is soooo excited about being f/t at school, it is only her silly mummy who is a bit She almost wet herself with excitment over being able to take her lunchbox into school yesterday - so sweet. Shame the enthusiasm won't last!!

ROFL @ banter between Mary and Rev

CaptainCaveman · 06/01/2009 17:34

Praying for your situation Mary, how hard on you. God will open another door for you (((((((mary))))))

Clockface · 06/01/2009 19:35

Mary. Huge prayers for you and your family, for provision of all you need. Blimmin' recession.

REv - LOL @ spam in God's inbox! If that's the case, what are the popup ads?

I need prayers please! I have a meeting tonight that could be fairly influential in what happens in terms of me going for ordained ministry. Eeek. I kinda wish that God had called me open a teashop in Bath instead. It all feels a bit costly atm. But I don't seem to remember anyting in the New Testament about tea shops, but there is quite a lot about the cost of discipleship, so what should I expect...?

Well, on the plus side, I always hated the job, the consultant I went to see last Sept told me I should find another job, and I've always wanted to be able to give it up anyway. It would be far more worrying if DH had lost his job, but hopefully that won't happen. We will manage somehow, God is good!

I DID joke to my RC (anti ordination of women) sister that maybe this was a sign that I should be contemplating paid ordained ministry, but after Clockface's quandary, maybe that wouldn't be a good idea . How did your meeting go btw?

And I've just had an absolutely fantastic discussion, lasting 2 hours, at my doctrine tutorial. For 2 hours I forgot that I'd lost my job, and talked and listened to all sorts of interesting ideas/theologies. Fantastic! Can't wait for the next instalment

FAQtothefuture · 06/01/2009 22:28

ahhh I've been "got" again at church.

I've mentioned before that I don't like standing up "talking" in front of the congregation (or any group of people for that matter). Even if it's just reading something (or in the case of last months after School Service reading the lines of a very very short play while hiding behind a screen holding a puppet).

Anyhow, there have been more and more of these little incidents where I've been asked to "just read this short prayer", "just read these few lines" etc etc.

Well the most terrifying came tonight (at our After School Service meeting) where my good friend (also the church warden) asked me if I could be "interviewed" at church on Sunday - it's the family parade service, the busiest service of the month. And as it's about Jesus' Baptism she wants to ask people about there reasons for being baptised/having their children baptised.

She's asked a lady who is being baptised in a few weeks time - to get it from an adults perspective..........and she wants me to answer a few questions (into a mircophone infront of a lot of people) about why i wanted to get DS3 Baptised ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I could hardly say no...........I was in the kitchen making the teas/coffees and she and my BF were sat at the table discussing the prayers (which my BF is doing) for that service when suddenly shecalled through and asked me if I'd do it. I looked round to see my BF and her looking at me as if to say "You wouldn't say no would you".

PandaG · 06/01/2009 22:38

hello all, Happy New Year

praying for you all, particularly you Mary as you face redundancy.

much love flowers xx

FAQtothefuture · 07/01/2009 10:03

oh my - prayers please - I'm just waiting for a letting agent to call me back to go and view a house that appeared online last night, it looks lovely, a little bit further "out" than I had initially thought of, but it's on the new "No Deposit" scheme (small monthly payments instead) which means regardless of my employment status as long as I can kind a guarantor I would be accepted.

I've got a "feeling" about this one.........anad only last night at our Leapfrog (AFter school service) meeting we had quite a lengthy natter about my moving, and looking for places - then I got online after they'd left and saw it........

notsofarnow · 07/01/2009 11:01

Prayers for all especially those with illness, mary and finding a new job and Faq with viewing that house.

I've had a back to work ok from GP she is really impressed with my progress and cant believe the difference in me. God is good i just need to stay like this now.

Rev I iknow I havent got back to you regards writing about depression can you email me with what you think would be beneficial.

prayers for all.

CaptainDippy · 07/01/2009 11:24

Glad you are feeling ok about the situation - God work in strange ways sometimes! I am praying for you and for your lovely family too. xxxx

Hope that this potential home is pefect for you FAQ

How did the meeting go CF? Am praying

Stil feeling yuk and bunged up, but doing ok.

FAQtothefuture · 07/01/2009 12:43

I think this house may be "it". agent is going to give me a ring later once I've had a chance to think about it (already have - it feels so right, despite all the "negatives" I could right about it, the positives outweight them).

So when he rings back I'm going say yes, and then it's going to be credit checks and finding a guarantor, he said I might not need one, but if I can find one will make it a breeze for me as long as I pass the credit check (and my credit score is pretty reasonable).

CaptainDippy · 07/01/2009 13:31

Exciting FAQ - you feeling ?

FAQtothefuture · 07/01/2009 13:33

I'm feeling ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I've packed precisely 2 boxes, and if you didn't know what the bookshelf (used as general storagE) looked like before I'd packed those 2 boxes you would never guess that 2 boxes of stuff have been packed from it .

I know a few people who I think may be willing to act as my guarantor, problem is that for the No Deposit scheme they have to earn a certain amount.........and I'm feeling a bit awakrd about saying "would you mind being my guarantor..........oh but you need to earn over X amount".
