Christian Prayer Thread:- God of all faithfulness - from the old into the new

DutchOma · 31/12/2008 13:06

The Dippy household is still full of colds and pressure, so I thought it would be good to have a new prayer thread just on the last day of the old year, looking forward to the new.

There are three prayer needs that I think need flagging up:-

David and Fiona Fulton, with their children Iona and Luke and adopted baby Elizabeth. They are missionaries in the Gambia and have been jailed for a year in a very tough prison. here. Only a mighty God can deal with a tough problem by way of a mighty miracle. We need to pray.

Then there is the family of Emily May Hughes, known to NotSoFarNow who was killed because her father dropped a television on her head and she died. here. The horror of such an accident is too much to contemplate. We need to pray.

The third prayer request comes from Weeteeny who posted on a different thread: Dear God, if you exist and I believe you do, then please help my friend tonight. This is a young mother of children aged 14 and 12 who is in hospital with an infection that is not very responsive to antibiotics. There is no recent update. here. We need to pray.

These are the three prayer requests that I think are the most important just at the moment.

But there are a lot of us that are struggling with problems that are not too small for our God to consider and care about.
Mary, with sickness in the family and ongoing concern about her parents-in-law. Giving thanks for the release of P.
Amber with difficulties in getting the help she needs.
Swaliswan needing a special light bulb.
FAQ struggling with family relationships.
RevJusta, coming to terms with an early miscarriage.
Zipadisuzy with poorly children.

And some of us struggle with issues of faith:- Hullygully, who feels like the black sheep; be assured that especially the black sheep are much loved by God.
Trickcyclist who started a thread: I want a religion - who will have me. here

Let us continue to care for one another, to pray for one another and to praise God for His blessings in the year just gone by and in the year to come.

Oh, a thought on what WM said... I think God can perform instant miracles. BUT He chooses not too, for it would make life too easy! And life is about facing challenges and overcoming them, so that we become better persons and also appreciate God's grace more.

PandaG · 10/02/2009 13:45

continuing to pray for WM. that the psych appointment is helpful, and for your DH and DC

praying for your Dsis and DN CC, and for the right intervention from SS

be with Amber and her DH Father, right now.

Thanks for those words of encouragement Mary, just what I need too, feel low and 'meh', nothing I can put my finger on but still...

mufti · 10/02/2009 13:54

hi all, thanks for remembering me
i always read the thread . i feel guilty that i dont remember everyones needs. i do think of you all
i spend too long on this site when ds is asleeep i must admit, not that healthy really
some good news , this weeeknd coming my church has organised a visit by Watoto choir , from Uganda , they all have one only , or no parents.
i was thrilled, (and surprised), that dh has agreed to accomodate some of them .
take a look at their webisite, sorry cant do links , but its watoto.com, theres a couple of videos on there of them singing, and a list of where and when they will be performing.
they look lovely , and i think it will be really uplifting, and also for the town , as they are doing several concerts while they are here, including one in town on saturday morning
i would appreciate a prayer for my confidence to attempt potty training and for His Royal Highness not to have hysterice every time i put the thing near him. i keep telling myself no one? starts school in nappies, and thats 19 months time!

CaptainDippy · 10/02/2009 14:26

Ooooh, enjoy Mufti Lovely to "see" you sweetie Hope potty training goes ok - my DD2 was in nappies for ever and still has regular accidents she starts school in Sept!!!!

Argh!

Prayers for amber and DH, hope news is good. xx

Prayers for you WM. xx

Good stuff CC Praying. Praying, Praying. xx

MaryBSnowing · 10/02/2009 15:08

Glad the words helped and good to "see" you Mufti.

Praying for good news for niece and on the house sale CC.

Have now had a minor panic attack. There is a conference on Autism and the church coming up in our diocese. I was planning to go anyway, if only to heckle when they get it wrong. I've just had an email from my course director. The study day for the Community Ministry module will be attending that conference... am trying to breathe deeply...

DutchOma · 10/02/2009 17:20

Can you esplain a bit more what the panic is for, Mary? I'm not quite sure I understand.
Had you hoped to go a bit incognito?

MaryBSnowing · 10/02/2009 18:08

Because churches get disability wrong. All the time.

lottiejenkins · 10/02/2009 19:20

Im sorry but i disagree with you there...............My son is profoundly deaf and is encouraged to be involved in our church. Several church members are learning to sign and my son regularly signs readings and prayers.

DutchOma · 10/02/2009 20:30

That's wonderful Lottie.

Good news. I have spoken to a social worker who is going to visit within 2 weeks. Praise God for His goodnes
Bad news. I had to tell dsis what I've done and why. I've also told her that she cannot look after ds1 until she's dry. I'm waiting to hear back from her but won't be surprised if she no longer wants to talk to me. I hold fast to the reasons why I've done this, and that is to make sure dneice is protected from her mothers alcoholism. Am certain dsis can't see any harm in her behaviour

Praise God again! WE got an offer on the house! Yippee! Too low but we are hoping to negotiate. Sadly the house we want has disappeared...we think they are between agents so not actually being marketed at present. Praying that they are still selling, and that we agree a sale on ours. God is GOOD

Hello, fellow prayer believers.

Please would you pray for DH's friend who died very suddenly yesterday at the age of 53 of a heart attack. A friendly, fun person who was full of life and bonhomie. His partner is suffering terribly. Please pray for her to find comfort in knowing that her beloved Nigel is safe with God. Thank you.

Prayers to all who need the love and support of our Lord.

amber32002 · 10/02/2009 21:50

DH is being transferred to a specialist hospital tomorrow...prayers very much needed

Lottie, feel free to disagree with me. But I am referring to neurological disabilities, like autism, bipolar, OCD. Does the church get THOSE right?

BouncingTurtle · 11/02/2009 06:56

Feeling better today, thank you for your prayers.

ST - sorry to hear about DH's friend. I pray the grace of our Lord will support Nigel's partner through the difficult days ahead. Do they have children?

Amber - praying to for your DH that the specialist unit find out what's wrong and come up with an effective treatment. Pray that he is comfortable and that God watches over you and your family.

CC - you've done the right thing, your sister is very ill. I hope she realises this and gets treatment soon.

lottiejenkins · 11/02/2009 07:52

You have your opinions Mary and I have mine... you didnt refer to those neurologial problems in your original post. You just made a sweeping generalisation of all disabilities.

MaryBSnowing · 11/02/2009 08:22

True Lottie and I'm sorry for that. I was hurting really bad and wasn't able to communicate coherently.

lottiejenkins · 11/02/2009 08:29

Its fine Mary xx

webstermum · 11/02/2009 08:32

Thanks and praise to God that DH's Uncle and family in Oz are safe despite the fires passing 500yds from their home

Amber praying for you and DH, may the Lord give you strength.

CC - be strong for your niece, you have done the right thing

Mary, I'm with you on Churches getting it wrong but at least the conference shows they are trying to learn to do better

Praying for you best as I can amber, and your family.

Well I got on fine with the psych - have been put on an antidepressant and an antipsychotic and will be seen again next week. She was a bit serious - my last psych was quite chirpy and bright - this one is a serious nodder!

So exhausted now - going back to bed!
