Christian Prayer Thread:- God of all faithfulness - from the old into the new

DutchOma · 31/12/2008 13:06

The Dippy household is still full of colds and pressure, so I thought it would be good to have a new prayer thread just on the last day of the old year, looking forward to the new.

There are three prayer needs that I think need flagging up:-

David and Fiona Fulton, with their children Iona and Luke and adopted baby Elizabeth. They are missionaries in the Gambia and have been jailed for a year in a very tough prison. here. Only a mighty God can deal with a tough problem by way of a mighty miracle. We need to pray.

Then there is the family of Emily May Hughes, known to NotSoFarNow who was killed because her father dropped a television on her head and she died. here. The horror of such an accident is too much to contemplate. We need to pray.

The third prayer request comes from Weeteeny who posted on a different thread: Dear God, if you exist and I believe you do, then please help my friend tonight. This is a young mother of children aged 14 and 12 who is in hospital with an infection that is not very responsive to antibiotics. There is no recent update. here. We need to pray.

These are the three prayer requests that I think are the most important just at the moment.

But there are a lot of us that are struggling with problems that are not too small for our God to consider and care about.
Mary, with sickness in the family and ongoing concern about her parents-in-law. Giving thanks for the release of P.
Amber with difficulties in getting the help she needs.
Swaliswan needing a special light bulb.
FAQ struggling with family relationships.
RevJusta, coming to terms with an early miscarriage.
Zipadisuzy with poorly children.

And some of us struggle with issues of faith:- Hullygully, who feels like the black sheep; be assured that especially the black sheep are much loved by God.
Trickcyclist who started a thread: I want a religion - who will have me. here

Let us continue to care for one another, to pray for one another and to praise God for His blessings in the year just gone by and in the year to come.

Clockface · 09/02/2009 14:56

Hello all,

Prayers for each of us as I reads through, esp. WeegieMum. Lots of love to you.

I would really appreciate prayers for my Crohns Disease - horrible illness that it is. My dc, like WeegieMum's are being told that I'm sick. It is really bad atm, after a long period of remission. Between that, PMT and the awful weather, I am feeling really rubbish atm! I have spent today at home and it's been good for me, but the rest of this week is pretty busy. So please pray that I can prioritise what I should do, and what can get shelved.

Mary well done for Evensnogging! I am impressed! I had one of those moments on Sun a.m. - I was leading the service and just about to launch into the offertory prayer when I suddenly thought to myself "Have we actually taken the offering?" We had, but I'd been distracted at the time! So getting the Nunc (have you read "An Alien at St Wilfred's", by Adrian PLass?) in the wrong place is completely excusable!

MaryBSnowing · 09/02/2009 15:35

Hi Clockface, yes I've read the book - DS has a little white soft toy called Nunc

Please pray for N, another of our congregation with breast cancer, having lump removed on 17th Feb. Not that old either - I think a similar age to me.

Also for BIL who has had a brain scan to find out if his brain tumour has shrunk following radiotherapy, and finds out the results on 17th Feb.

Notquitegrownup · 09/02/2009 17:35

Evening all.

I just ground to a halt in the middle of cooking dinner and thought - where's Mufti?! Are you lurking out there Mufti? Or is anyone in touch? Hope that you are OK.

God bless.

PandaG · 09/02/2009 17:40

Any suggestions for words of comfort in the bible? Am feeling in need of a 'heavenly hug'. Frustrated to tears by dsis. She didn't turn up to take dneice to school this morning. I phoned her land line and mobile - no answer. Called again. And again. Eventually she answered and said they were both ill with a cough and a temp (utter lies I'm sure). Then proceeded to say they might pop out to go shopping! I suggested dneice would be too ill for that if she couldn't go to school. Dsis then said dneice might be well enough to go to school after lunch. Again I said "surely not, if she's not well enough" Phone call ended with me sounding less than impressed at her. 10 mins later I got a text saying "thanks for the kick up the ar*e, am waiting for taxi to take her to school".

I spoke to her about it after school and she repeated the lie that dneice had been ill with a cough and a temp. I asked her if she was going to go back to her day centre (for recovering and detoxing alcoholics), she said "yes I suppose so at some point". I asked her if she was wise to wait, to which she replied "possibly not". GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I cannot think straight for being so angry with her. I know its the disease that makes her behave like this but its so hard to not get bloody annoyed with her.

Please could you pray that I can think straight about dsis and her situation? Also for guidance on how to help her through this/help to handle dneice through this.

sorry thats all me, me me....

lottiejenkins · 09/02/2009 20:14

Weegiemum · 10/02/2009 00:48

Thanks for your prayers and messages ladies. I feel like I am fragmenting at the moment, though I know help is on the way .... see Psych day after tomorrow!

Nice to know there are people praying for me - especially not praying for instantaneous miraculous healing (that does my head in) but for strength to cope ....

BouncingTurtle · 10/02/2009 07:27

Please could have your prayers this morning as I feel really unwell, sick and my tummy fills very strange.

MaryBSnowing · 10/02/2009 08:08

For CC, WM BT, and all who need words of comfort:

Isaiah 42:1-4
"Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
I have put my spirit upon him;
he will bring forth justice to the nations.
He will not cry or lift up his voice,
or make it heard in the street;
a bruised reed he will not break,
and a dimly burning wick he will not quench;
he will faithfully bring forth justice.
He will not grow faint or be crushed
until he has established justice in the earth;
and the coastlands wait for his teaching. "

Jeremiah 29:11-14
"For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. "

Praying for amber and her dh

Some praiseworthy news - I spoke to a counsellor at our local APAS (alcohol problems advisory service) who was most helpful and is sending me a 'denial pack' (for friends and families of alcoholics). He will also make a referral to SS re dneice. On top of this I have again phoned SS today and am waiting for them to ring me back. Please pray for dneice, that we can make her awful situation better

Exciting news too - just had an offer on the house, a bit too low but the agents are negotiating for us. Praying praying praying that we can sell this house and buy the one we want

BouncingTurtle · 10/02/2009 13:35

CC - praying that SS will get back to you quickly with some concrete help for your dsis and dneice.
Amber - prayers for your dh too.
MaryBS - thank you for finding those comforting words. They have helped. Managed to have a nap snuggled up with ds, but still feel tired and weak, and slightly sick and headachey. DH has promised to try and get home a bit early so I can go to bed. DS hasn't been much trouble he is happily playing with all his toys and making a huge mess
