Christian Prayer Thread:- God of all faithfulness - from the old into the new

DutchOma · 31/12/2008 13:06

The Dippy household is still full of colds and pressure, so I thought it would be good to have a new prayer thread just on the last day of the old year, looking forward to the new.

There are three prayer needs that I think need flagging up:-

David and Fiona Fulton, with their children Iona and Luke and adopted baby Elizabeth. They are missionaries in the Gambia and have been jailed for a year in a very tough prison. here. Only a mighty God can deal with a tough problem by way of a mighty miracle. We need to pray.

Then there is the family of Emily May Hughes, known to NotSoFarNow who was killed because her father dropped a television on her head and she died. here. The horror of such an accident is too much to contemplate. We need to pray.

The third prayer request comes from Weeteeny who posted on a different thread: Dear God, if you exist and I believe you do, then please help my friend tonight. This is a young mother of children aged 14 and 12 who is in hospital with an infection that is not very responsive to antibiotics. There is no recent update. here. We need to pray.

These are the three prayer requests that I think are the most important just at the moment.

But there are a lot of us that are struggling with problems that are not too small for our God to consider and care about.
Mary, with sickness in the family and ongoing concern about her parents-in-law. Giving thanks for the release of P.
Amber with difficulties in getting the help she needs.
Swaliswan needing a special light bulb.
FAQ struggling with family relationships.
RevJusta, coming to terms with an early miscarriage.
Zipadisuzy with poorly children.

And some of us struggle with issues of faith:- Hullygully, who feels like the black sheep; be assured that especially the black sheep are much loved by God.
Trickcyclist who started a thread: I want a religion - who will have me. here

Let us continue to care for one another, to pray for one another and to praise God for His blessings in the year just gone by and in the year to come.

waving furiously and praying too - Good to hear from you. Thinking of you and glad you are still in touch with her Mary.

Good morning all. V. snowy again here - had a lovely day playing in the snow yesterday, though my head is throbbing today - overdoes of fresh air, I think - so I'm hoping we can have a snuggly TV day today.

Yes, CD. I suspect Eastbourne might be an honorary northern town . I used to live in Norwich (bit further north, I know) but it definitely had a great culture of knock-on-your-neighbour's door-to-have-a-cuppa.

How are you, today, Jently?

OK, off to play! God bless all.

Hello everyone, have been thinking of you all but only had chance to post until now. Had a migrain yesterday, so took myself off to bed as soon as DH got home.

Will pray for all the issues that have been mentioned.

I would also be up for a Lent Bible study - I used to be in a Bible study group - Dh runs it for the students on a Monday night, but I can't attend with having ds - it's held 40mins away from our house and we don't have a babysitter.

I've signed up for a WAH oppportunity... won't say too much about it but it is quite exciting, and I'll be no doubt advertising on MN!!

Bless you all for the coming weekend
Mary - I think some people think ministry people are somehow immune to life's troubles but as you know yourself, that isn't true! I pray that you will have some local contact to share your troubles with... don't suppose you live anywhere near Teesside - you're down south aren't you?
I also forgot to mention I did see the GP and he was of the opinion that I should not go for an AS diagnosis until I have my depression sorted. I have to go back in 3 weeks having filled in another questionnaire and see how I feel then.

Weegiemum · 06/02/2009 18:19

Am briefly posting as am nervous of large groups atm, even mn, weird as it sounds!

As Mary said, I am badly, badly depressed right now - the words "major" and "severe" are being used by the professionals. I am being looked after by the GP, the CPN team and am seeing the psychiatrist on Wed - as I had a nasty drug reaction in the past, I can't get any medication till I see her, and where I live, an "urgent" referral takes about 5 weeks (as I am not suicidal).

Its nice you will pray for me - but also please for my fabby dh who is taking all the flak while I am sick. And for my 3 kids (5, 7, 9) to whom we have explained that Mummy is sick. I feel like I am letting them all down so badly, by being ill again.

Nice to be in touch. I do read and pray, but havent posted for a long time - it makes me very nervous.

amber32002 · 06/02/2009 19:03

Hi Weegiemum, the people on this bit are lovely and I've never seen even a hint of nastiness in a whole year. Prayers for you, and please don't think you are letting anyone down by not being well. You're not.

Notquitegrownup · 06/02/2009 20:26

Oh WM - I have been thinking about you lately - now I know why. Thank you for coming on to post. Prayers for a successful outcome on Wednesday, and that in the meantime, you can take life one day at a time and know God's peace with you as you go. Praying for your dh and los too.

God bless.

DutchOma · 06/02/2009 20:31

I have been praying on and off for you Weegiemum, but more 'off' than 'on', to my shame.
Depression can be so utterly horrendous and debilitating, I'm praying that you soon will begin to see just a tiny chink of light in the darkness and that it will grow from there until you are fully in the light again. You can no more help being depressed than breaking your leg, although you will always blame yourself whatever (How could I be so stupid as not to see that ledge and trip over it etc)

wm you will feel better. One day you will realise that even for a shorrt time you have felt ok - not fab but ok. Just praying that your referral wont take 5 weeks and that somehow an appointment will become available. If you want to email me please do. kath dot harrry at hotmail dot co dot uk

BouncingTurtle · 07/02/2009 19:38

Weegiemum - am thinking of you, your dh and your children. I too am being treated for depression as well, though it sounds like you are a lot worse than me . Be gentle with yourself, you are ill, I pray that you will get a referral asap.

MYJIM - prayers for your ds and your dd... sounds like you have a plan, and Naomi is doing fine. I think as long as she is bright and happy, producing plenty of wet & dirty nappies then she is probably ok... she is just a slower weight gainer than others. Was she very small at birth?

webstermum · 08/02/2009 11:46

Prayers for all, list too long but have read and am thinking of everyone today.

Can I please ask for prayer for DS who is struggling & therefore also myself as situation is getting me down again

MaryBSnowing · 08/02/2009 19:03

Praying...

Just to let you know about an EEK! moment...
I got a phone call at 3:30pm to say could I lead Evensnog at 4:00pm? Including prayers and a spiritual reading instead of a sermon... well I pulled it off, apart from 1 slight gaffe where I started the Creed before we had sung the Nunc Dimittis (or was that before we had sunk the Nung Dimittis??? )

Oh well done Mary.

All well here, but no baby in sight just yet, all false alarums

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 08/02/2009 21:03

MaryBS - well done you! I'm sure no-one minded your gaff!!

Myjobisone - ahh so she is a wee one. Then she is doing very well. DS was 6lb6oz when he was born, and at 13mo is around 19lb... rest of the babies born from my AN class, around the same time as ds are now around the 25lb mark! But he is doing fine, he is a happy, chubby little toddler! And it means I can have him rear facing in his car seat too!

amber32002 · 09/02/2009 06:41

Prayers for each person as I read through the chain.

Horrible day yesterday in which I burst into tears during the service and hoped no-one else saw it. They'd given a rousing speech about how churches are there to help, to pray for people, to listen. And I realised that's what I actually wanted them to do.

MaryBSnowing · 09/02/2009 07:15

If its any comfort Amber, I've done that exact same thing, at a different church. Only I was crying so much I had to leave and have a good sob, and then come back. It was a sermon about how churches should take care of the vulnerable. Many prayers for you, though.

FAQinglovely · 09/02/2009 07:41

bit of and odd prayer request coming up.

Please pray that the DS's schools are closed. I'm going to struggle (if manage at all??) to get the pushchair through the snow we had last night and I'm going to feel really bad if I keep them off because of that. However if the schools are closed then I won't have to feel guilty about not dragging the pushchair through the snow - have no idea how long it would take me, took me 1/2hr yesterday, and that was with most of the way being compacted snow/ice, the bits where I had to drag through the snow were by far the slowest bits so I'm sure it would take me MUCH longer than 1/2hr......

BouncingTurtle · 09/02/2009 07:48

I shall pray for school closure for you... or all the snow to miraculously melt away!!!

FAQinglovely · 09/02/2009 07:52

now the second one would be a miracle LOL.

lottiejenkins · 09/02/2009 08:07

I have a meeting at work with regard to my job and how i am doing it, your prayers that i get the result i need would be welcomed please....................

M44 · 09/02/2009 08:44

Morning all! Praying for you and I just wanted to share this with you...

Those that know me, know how difficult church has been over the last few years, well as a church we are really beginning to see movement and growth and it is REALLY exciting. Some of (as a team) attended prayer ministry training day on Saturday, which was a real commissioning of us as a team. It was run by another church in our are and the leaders insisted that we be prayeed for by everyone and that was amazing as he introduced us as a vibrant church doing amazing works in certain areas and a church that is growing, which is true. There were also lots of pictures and words for us which totally made sense, including one that we have had before!

SO please be encouraged one and all that we have an amazing and powerful God, who really does want to see us growing......

CaptainDippy · 09/02/2009 11:24

Good stuff M44 xx

Praying Lottie - nice of you to pop by

Good that she has gained something MJIM - don't worry yourself too much sweetie. If she is happy and content, feeding well and plenty of wet and dirty nappies, she is fine. Trust your instincts. she is prob just a tenny little thing (I have one of those too )

Have been away for the weekend, was nice, but I exhausted now!
