Summer MeetUp For MN Christians

I am hoping to organise a summer meet up for christians on MN - last year we had a fabulous day in Oxford organised by NotQuiteGrownUp. We are thinking of July or possibly the end of June, and the venue is going to be in the West Herts area, which is reasonably easily accessible from the M25 and M1. (If you google-map somewhere like Hemel Hempstead, St Albans or Watford, that'll give you a rough idea of the area!)

We will make sure that there are lots of things for the dc to do, and lots of tea and chat for the mums! The day could include a short service, or informal prayer time...I'm trying to think of how it will work best, so if you have any flashes of inspiration please let me know! The food and drink for the day will be provided and if we all pay a little bit towards it, it won't be that much. Partners are very very welcome too!

It would be lovely to see as many MNers there as poss! If you'd like to come, please c+p to sign in here. If you could put your dcs' ages and any food requirements, that'd help with planning. I'll start the ball rolling:

Roseylea + poss Mr Roseylea, with 2 dc (aged 4 and 5, allergic to wheat, egg, soy and nuts)

Hi Weegiemum/H - lovely to hear you again! So sorry to hear that things have been difficult for you. Praying.

Wouldn't it be fab if you could come to the meetup?

I am happy to go wherever the majority want.

Roseylea · 26/04/2008 18:50

DO, I agree - I'd be heartbroken too.

I was somewhere today that would be really good and much cheaper so on Monday I'll phone and see if we can book there.

Any ideas on dates?

That would be fab Rosey. I'm easy on dates, not before the 12th June, that's all

CaptainCaveman · 26/04/2008 21:26

Am easy for dates Rosey - June or July, as long as I know far enough in advance I can make sure we don't arrange anything else for that weekend.

CarGirl · 26/04/2008 22:49

Very end of June or July should be fine with me

Notquitegrownup · 27/04/2008 14:26

I can't do 5 July but if Weegiemum is around first week in July it would be good to aim for that, wouldnt it? We're not going to meet her easily otherwise.

Roseylea · 01/05/2008 09:53

Hellooooo!

So what do we think about dates? Shall we try to get the date when the most people can make it?

These are the dates we could do:

June 7
June 14
June 21
June 28
July 5
July 12

Please say which you'd prefer / really can't do!

Also, would £10 per family be okay, moneywise? I'm trying to keep it as cheap as poss...

THanks!

OP posts:
DutchOma · 01/05/2008 10:54

Really can't do 7th June. Would prefer not to do 5th July, but if Weegiemum can come then I would too.
Other dates all equal.

Roseylea · 01/05/2008 10:57

Okay, so we are down to:

June 14
June 21
June 28
July 5 (???)
July 12

OP posts:
ZipadiSuzy · 01/05/2008 12:08

Dates ok, let me know 'where' then I can sort camping/caravan sites out!!!!!

Notquitegrownup · 01/05/2008 12:12

Just a thought:

Would adding Sunday July 6 as a possibility be a way of getting Weegiemum there, and allowing me and DO to make it too? Or does it have to be a Saturday?

We need Weegiemum to confirm when she is heading back up north!

Roseylea · 01/05/2008 13:06

If you all are happy to skip church for one day I'm quite happy to make it Sunday the 6th. Or if you like I could give you details of services locally here that are child friendly!

Could anyone e-mail Weegiemum and find out when she is around?

OP posts:
DutchOma · 01/05/2008 13:47

The only thing with that is public transport. I am perfectly happy to exchange my usual group of worshippers for another for once. But it is more difficult to travel on a Sunday.

So how about:

June 14
June 21
June 28?

I take your point about public transport on Sundays, DO.

OP posts:
mufti · 01/05/2008 18:35

i am hoping to come, transport permitting, but we will probably be away june 28th, as ds birthday next day.

PandaG · 01/05/2008 18:43

I would love to come, but haven't
said anything until now as I knew June and July was busy for me...DD has her dance show at the end of JUne, and the weekends before are full of dance rehearsals. PLease set a date and if it is one I can do I will come, but I think it very unlikely

have leaving parties and 40th birthday parties, Beaver sleepovers and school BBQs as well, next year should be quieter - DD's show is every 2 years!

thanks Rosey for organising...and if anyone wants to come up North I would be delighted to see you!

Weegiemum · 01/05/2008 19:22

HI. I am in southern England from Sun evening 29th June until 1st July.

Dont base it round me if others cant make it. Oh, and I am busy all day 30th June with my brother. In London next 2 days after that though.

Roseylea · 01/05/2008 19:55

Okay, let's go for June 14th or 21st. June 15th is Father's Day, if that has any bearing on things! I'll try to book the venue soon and then we can start getting excited about it!

Weegiemum, fancy meeting up in London for coffee? I'd love to meet you and talk theology with you!

Panda, I completely understand about the busyness - hope you can come though...

OP posts:
Weegiemum · 01/05/2008 21:50

Rosey that would be great.

Oh and can you fill me in on cool things to do in London with a 4, 6 and 8 yo? They want to see the dinosaurs at the NH Museum and se Big Ben but we dont know what else??

Good eating places also a good idea. We are youth hostelling it and have got it quite cheap, but need interesting non-BK etc place for lunch (or maybe a picnic in the park somewhere) and for dinner?

Notquitegrownup · 02/05/2008 14:49

I can do 14th, but not 21st. However, see if there is anyone else who can do it the other way round before fixing definitely!

I should be able to bring Mufti, if her dh can get her to us.

Panda, I know that NSFN would love a northern meet up, and is only a couple of hours from you. She may not be looking at this thread.

Roseylea · 02/05/2008 14:56

Shall we go for the 14th June then?

OP posts:
MaryBS · 02/05/2008 15:24

I THINK I can make 14th, I'll check with DH. The previous week I'm hoping to be on retreat and the week before that I'm on holiday, so that would be the 3rd weekend out in a row...
