Do you want any evidence? I don’t as there isn’t any scientific proof or likelihood of an explanation or existence.

@Parker231,ah. It is difficult to see evidence if you refuse to look at it.

Am an open minded person but not wasting time ‘looking’.

@Kdtym10, ah, this scripture seems apt:

"12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."
(1 Corinthians 13:12)

Interesting- how would you seek to apply that in the current discussion?

I usually can’t bring myself to look at that part of Corinthians since my sister in law, given free rein decided to read that at my wedding!!!!!! I mean fucking hell!!

Parker231 · 06/02/2024 15:43

Might not be religious but our local church is a lovely building - Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral. We take visitors to the light shows.

heyhohello · 06/02/2024 15:51

@Kdtym10,

Interesting- how would you seek to apply that in the current discussion?

Just that, like God is so beyond our complete understanding, in this life, so is a complete understanding of Jesus/ The Bible in its entirety. As you said yourself:

Multiple layers to unravel

Sorry - should add, those were my rambled ponderings on a Tuesday afternoon- would need to consider this more.

But I think you’re saying, does the Bible tell us everything we need to know about God. I would say yes and no!

Your sister in law seemed to be likening your marriage to the supremely powerful, marvellous and mysterious aspect of God..😉😃 I don't know her, even if she thought she was being critical it's a fantastic compliment! 😁

heyhohello · 06/02/2024 15:55

And the promise of Corinthians 13:12 should be a good one for those who seek unity with God. 🙂

heyhohello · 06/02/2024 15:57

And in marriage it means you will get to know each other more intimately in the marriage union.

sunflowerpinks · 06/02/2024 15:59

Only if you don't perceive evidence from any of the raw data in this life.

I don't perceive any 'raw' data despite being a very open minded curious person.

Where is this raw data hidden?

And why would a God make himself so difficult to find, if he exists?

heyhohello · 06/02/2024 16:28

@sunflowerpinks

Where is this raw data hidden

In everything.

And why would a God make himself so difficult to find, if he exists?

I don't think He is so difficult to find.

So, if God is unknowable how can we know whether his fullness is contained in the Bible? - your original question.

oh I don’t think my sister in law was being critical at all, loads of people latch onto the repeated use of the word love and roll out Corinthians 12 at weddings. It’s more the context of a cult leader that I object to. I’m not a fan of Paul. - actually that’s not completely true. I just don’t think he had the authority he claimed to have - I suspect he was a bit of a charlatan. Not someone you want quoted at your wedding

You’re looking in the wrong place. Or maybe the right place from the wrong angle

Why can most people not see it, even if they are open minded and curious?

Why would God not reveal himself to so many people? People like me who are open minded and genuinely curious?

Because of this

”I don’t perceive any 'raw' data despite being a very open minded curious person.

Where is this raw data hidden?”

You’ll never feel the mountain breeze standing in Hammersmith if you only look for the physical.

@Kdtym10, I think it's important to let yourself be surprised by God and who He works through. Too many people think they have the measure of someone else, erroneously.

Oh I’ve read and studied Paul. You’d be surprised who the devil works through too!

youll have to expand on that

heyhohello · 06/02/2024 16:56

@Kdtym10

I would rather maintain hope that God is able lead people to Him. The parables of the lost sheep and coins come to mind. As such I look for the good in people. Looking around and seeing only demons would be a form of Hell...

heyhohello · 06/02/2024 16:57

I would read it as the Bible is the way in which we can all reach Christ status, everyone of us and Jesus was an example of that

I’ll borrow WB Yeats’s magical motto

Demon et deus Inversus

Interesting connection, that, with the mirror imagery in Corinthians 13:12...

Well sometimes potential isn’t fulfilled. I’ll quote again

“A truth that’s told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent”
