Just got back from a live medium show ....

I went in being completely open minded. I don't need to think I believe it or not. I'm glad I went and it was a great show.

She was fantastic. 2hrs live show. No breaks.

Would love to know of others experiences.

The cynic in me, says she should could get all from Facebook .... linked in etc .. it's all there to see.

Earpiece and assistant looking people up backstage. Assistant also mingles with the crowd, chatting with them and eavesdropping on conversations before the show.

Glad you enjoyed it and had a fun night but none of it is actually psychic powers.

I used to think it was all nonsense till I went to one and my family who had passed came through. No way could she have known who I was as I was visiting my friend and we went to the event to support her friend's sons team at the very last minute. No one else knew me, my name or anything, paid at the door etc. She knew everything and I made a future appointment with her afterwards. That was mind blowing too. When I made the appointment she only wanted my first name so still couldn't have found out about about me and my FB profile doesn't use my real surname anyway.
So I've gone from a complete cynic to a total believer. There is absolutely no way she could have known what she did.
What she told me has been a real comfort to me and has actually changed the way I view and react to certain things. For the better.

DH and I went to see Derek Acorah a while ago.
It was interesting if a bit stilted and if you were adament you didn't believe then I don;t think you'd emerge converted .

But he said something like "Your loved ones are always there they will find a way to contact you . Something subtle , they won't be like 'Most Haunted' "

Which I believe was right when my Dad died and we had a sign.

Actually my parents were both lifelong Church goers and my Dad picked up and read my copy of Derek Acorah's autobiolography and said it was "interesting" . You'd have thought he'd say what a crock of shite

I went to one at a spiritualist church with work colleagues years ago before the internet was even a thing. It was a drop in event so not ticketed and no names given at any point. One of the speakers or whatever they’re called asked my colleague if he would accept a message and he did - he thought it was a complete hoot. The speaker told him things from his childhood there is no way he would have known - there was no fishing, nothing, it was a q&a session. My work colleague was quite shaken by it. I know no/one can communicate with the dead but how the hell he knew that stuff I don’t know.

Yes interesting...i went to something similar years ago...no internet or smart phones around then....the lady knew my present house number, how long i lived there....told me exactly when i would change jobs..month and year....was accurate and told me the number of my new flat....it was allocated by a teaching agency so i never went looking for flats etc....she got some info about my dad totally wrong tho...!...i went to event as someone dropped out so no prior info given when booking etc....just turned up and paid cash...a fiver..!

Also a scientist. The money stays firmly in my pocket. They prey on vulnerable people. Saw a thread a while back which made me chuckle, don't know how I came across it. Was about mediums you phone. Somebody said it's really just Maureen from which ever city doing her ironing making up bollocks. Other people then said I'm sad to say I'm a drama student and I do it for extra money, I make up all sorts of shit...etc.

When we were students living in grovels we'd watch most haunted on our tiny tv and cry laugh at: Mary loves Dick
They put disclaimers on saying for entertainment purposes only...
Thing is, this is people who are hurting and they are the source of this so-called entertainment.

I do believe there are people with genuine abilities

but I am not sure I'd be convinced by a stage show. How do you know they weren't plants?

I think there are far more charlatans than real psychics. But I do think there are real ones out there.

I love how multiple posters start their answer with "Scientist here", as though being a scientist makes them experts on the subject.
Whilst the majority of so called mediums may be fakes, we know that true prophets and seers have existed (such as Edgar Cayce and Rudolph Steiner for example - the latter by the way was also a scientist by education).
In my personal life, I have known 1 psychic (as a friend) and I can vouch for him 100%. You'd never see him on stage or making money out of people, but he was an incredible clairvoyant and medium.

What on earth would make you think Edgar Cayce and Rudolf Steiner were ‘true prophets and seers’? Steiner took science classes, yes, and he still invented a form of anthroposophical ‘medicine’ that thinks past lives influence people’s illnesses and that whether you recover is down to karma. That’s not science, it’s dangerous quackery.

We raised a lot of money off one event, for charity.
I'd help run it again, for sure, to raise money as % of tickets.
Is why I was there.
Boring, like a church service.
I thought I might be spooked or unsettled.
Instead, Very homesy.
Also get to tag myself as "scientist."
The people -watching was fair to middling, I suppose.
So as a scientist I enjoyed scrutinising the crowd mood, concerns, rapport methods.

Can't stand this nonsense. It is all debunked and it's well known that these mediums make money off exploiting people who are grieving. Don't give them your money. It's a horrible practice.

I convinced someone in the pub one night I was a medium, without any effort just a few things I told him a few vague things that he switched round to be relevant to him - he fell for it hook line and sinker and I couldn't believe how easy it was

Edgar Cayce was a fraud. Steiner was a total barmpot. Both terrible examples (though not sure a good example exists). James Randi on the other hand...
