I went in being completely open minded. I don't need to think I believe it or not. I'm glad I went and it was a great show.

She was fantastic. 2hrs live show. No breaks.

Would love to know of others experiences.

The cynic in me, says she should could get all from Facebook .... linked in etc .. it's all there to see.

The non cynic, she new exact names, exact circumstances etc

Would love to know others thoughts.

@SirChenjins , there's a lot of good stuff on you tube showing how they do it. Holy Koolaid is good, but I love Miklos Jakko so have a look at him ( especially his session with James Van Pragh).
I was reading about Houdini the other day and I think I have a way to put this argument to bed once and for all. Decide with your loved ones a password. Then, when 1 of you dies and the other visits a medium who will claim to have your partner there, ask for the password.
Simple !

My late husband and I had a “password” phrase. If ever anyone says they have a message from him I will absolutely know whether they are genuine. Never bothered going to a medium though, since I, too, am a scientist.

There are some charlatans out there, of course there are. Years ago I went to a 'Psychic Evening' and was really disappointed by the absolute obvious fakery.

But ... how do you explain someone I only vaguely knew and was meeting for the first time coming to me at a social gathering and telling me (1) the exact name, including surname, of my great great aunt (1868-1934) who is apparently looking after my baby in spirit and (2) another piece of information that I didn't understand until about fifteen years later when I took a DNA test and found that my biological grandfather was not who I thought he was.

I'm keeping an open mind.

Well, the second one is conformation bias. It was nonsense until you could attach meaning to it, then suddenly it was relevant.

The aunt thing, why would it be that specific person?

It’s much, much less of a stretch to say that someone else there knew your colleague from the home. To claim the spiritualist was literally magic is massively more improbable.

Point to where I’ve claimed he was magic?

What I have said is that I’d love to know how he knew what he told my colleague. You haven’t been able to offer anything that comes close to a factual or even plausible explanation - which should be so easy to do, in the same way Derren Brown et al can be explained.

I have though: someone else there recognised him and passed the information to the psychic.

Do you think he was really able to see into your friend’s past? What would you call that if not ‘magic’?

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:06

No you haven’t - you’ve stretched your imagination to breaking point with what ifs. I need something more tangible in the same way Derren Brown explains it.

Do I think he could see into my colleague’s past? Doubt it. Do I know how he did it? Nope. Has anyone been able to explain it in a way that’s very plausible? No. Is there likely to be a more explanation than someone in the audience was in the same care home in another part of the country 40-odd years ago, just happened to recognise my colleague, knew the details that the spiritualist shared with him, and somehow managed to convey all this to the spiritualist in front of an audience without my colleague spotting them and saying ‘well as I live and breathe, there’s John from the home from 30 years ago’, and then not connecting the two when he’s given information that only he knew? Definitely. And I’d love to hear it.

What kind of explanation would you accept?

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:11

One that’s far more plausible than yours.

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:11

One that’s far more plausible than yours.

Such as what though? I wasn’t there, I can only go by what you tell me.

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:16

If I knew how to explain it I would have done so by now. I’ve given you the facts, now it’s over to you to come up with something that I can believe

Someone at the event knew him from the home.

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:19

Yeah, you said. Not really plausible. Anything better?

Pumperthepumper · 24/11/2022 20:19

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:19

Yeah, you said. Not really plausible. Anything better?

It is though. OR someone set him up by feeding the information beforehand.

Pumperthepumper · 24/11/2022 20:21

I’ve just thought of another one! He was having you on, and went along with it.

Pumperthepumper · 24/11/2022 20:22

Or, you have misremembered the event and it didn’t happen exactly as you remember. Or, this being the internet and all, it didn’t happen at all.

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:23

You can claim it’s plausible all you like - it’s really not anything like the explanation that Derren Brown gives. That’s the sort of explanation I’m looking for. Can you provide that?

Who would have fed the spiritualist the info beforehand?

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:25

  1. it happened.
  2. I know it happened, and if a random on the internet doesn’t believe me it’s of no consequence
SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:25
  1. * it happened as I remember it

I’m not Derren Brown, I’m afraid, and also I wasn’t there. So I can only look at the logic available from the information you’ve given me.

Your colleague?

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:35

There isn’t any logic in explanation though - you’re just stretching your imagination to come up with something that is far fetched to say the least. Surely if this is so easy to explain because it’s a common spiritualist scam that spiritualists then there would be an explanation at the same level as Derren Brown’s.

My colleague? We came in the car together, went in together and sat together.

How do you know he wasn’t faking his reaction?

SirChenjins · 24/11/2022 20:42

How do I know he wasn’t really a woman called Brenda?

I could debate this all night but sadly the ironing pile calls. If you do have a ‘ah-ha’ moment worthy of Sherlock Holmes or come across an explanation of this type of spiritualist approach by someone in the know please let me know Smile

Maybe you could email Derren Brown and ask him. Regardless, the person you saw wasn’t psychic.

Alexa456 · 24/11/2022 20:46

Pumperthepumper · 24/11/2022 12:49

It’s really easy. You cast first, ie ‘I’m getting a J?’ and note the people who twitch an eyebrow or a cheek. Then you guess their age - if they’re 30ish, likely to have a grandparent called Jane, Jean, John, James, Jack and so on. So you keep casting out until someone bites.

I'm sceptical but I saw a psychic who gave me names (only first admittedly) but there was no fishing “Ive got a J” she said the name straight out, ie “Ive got a Karl”
It was a drop in thing, no way of knowing me beforehand.

I saw another too who told me 2 quite specific things that have both since happened (not in the realms of you’ll get married/have children etc)

I cant say I believe but certainly cant explain how the people I saw knew these things

To be honest it shook me up a bit & has put me off going to any more!

I never said he was.
