Welcome clutteredup and spookymadmummy. Praying for all those who are having opeations/investigations this week.

Take care everyone, my thoughts and prayers are with you all, even if I'm not mentioning you by name/situation.

My brain has gone "walkabout". My sermon is NOT on fishers of men, but a completely different passage, Matthew 24.36-44. Which is about "one being taken, the other left", and about being "ready". I thought I'd start the sermon by having an alarm clock going off, and saying that when Jesus comes again, we won't get an alarm call like that. I thought I would talk about the "urgency" of being ready, that Jesus' speech was about motivation, sort of like on a school report "x is capable of so much more". That we're all capable of so much more, but that we can achieve what's expected of us, by the grace of God. Compare it to this week's reading, about the 2 criminals crucified next to Jesus, and how one was saved ON the cross. Talk about getting ready for Christmas - both in terms of celebration, and also more importantly, preparing ourselves to celebrate the birth of Jesus. That's the plan, anyhow...

CaptainDippy · 26/11/2007 07:28

Bless you, Mary {{{{hugs}}}} Sloooow down sweetie and find some time to rest in Him, eh!!? xx

OP posts:
MaryBS · 26/11/2007 07:30

CaptainDippy · 26/11/2007 10:07

How is everyone today?? xx

OP posts:
Notquitegrownup · 26/11/2007 10:32

Good morning all.

Hugs Mufti. How are you this morning?

Mary - the sermon sounds really good. I love the alarm clock idea. I love the image of the criminal saved on the cross. Personally, I get a bit scared in Church when I am told I am capable of a lot more -as it makes me feel I should be doing a lot more, and start Martha-ing away, rather than being a lot more, and Mary-ing it, as I should. (Did I get my Mary and Martha the right way round there?!)

That's not to say that it's not an important point to make, but it would be great if you could end up with a prayer, allowing anyone who feels touched by that message to open up their lives in whatever way they need to, to God's healing, loving message, so that they can translate fear/guilt into prayerful action.

Gosh, that was a big thought for early on a Monday!

Your continuing prayers for Mum, who reacted a bit badly to the anaesthetic, and for Dad who is looking after her, would be much appreciated. Prayer for me would also be much appreciated. Depression is lurking, and needs bashing on the head.

Prayers for clutteredup's friend's dp and Elliebean's dad and spookymadmummy's stepdad. Remembering OJ and Steve, MummytoTandF and MB and her dh too. And everyone else on this thread too.

God bless all.

CaptainDippy · 26/11/2007 11:04

Morning NQGU Your poor mum Praying for her, that the reaction would abate and she owuld be back-to-normal asap - and for your dad too as he cares for her. xx LOVED your BIG Monday morning thoughts btw Liked the image of the alarm clock too, Mary.

Please pray for P think she has a funny tummy, poor love

Continuing to pray for all the special people on this thread - especially for OJ, Steve and family, mummytoT&F and little ones ...... thinking of Xavielli too - and weirdbird and mumtogusandalbie and lovely Sooooz.... where are you all!!?

DutchOma · 26/11/2007 11:08

Sermon plan sounds excellent, Mary. Praying for all loved ones, old and new prayer requests, so good to see people feel happy to come here and ask for prayers. Praise be to God for his indescribable, or inexpressible gift - that was our sermon yesterday.
I am so pleased - this morning I have been able to contact a friend who is a gas engineer, he replaced our boiler ten years ago and had been to service it a couple of times. Then we lost touch. When I came back from Holland we realised that, not only had the boiler not been serviced for a number of years, the timer unit on the wall was ticking like an alarm clock and would probably need replacing - has been there for over 30 years. So this morning I rang the mobile number I had and after four years I got in touch just like that and he is coming on Friday .
Praise the Lord.

DutchOma · 26/11/2007 11:10

And Creambunnie and Pepperpots..please let us know you are ok?

CaptainDippy · 26/11/2007 11:20

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 26/11/2007 13:40

Good one CD - praying and for poor P's tummy too.
NQGU - prayers for your mum and dad
Mary - I like the alarm clock too
DO - hurray for the gas engineer - and more importantly - praise the Lord - just to add to the evidence for that being the case - we rang a guy recently as were thinking of getting our gas fire serviced - he can't come till February!!!
Prayers for all the rest of my mumsnet friends - I'm still using the prayer I came up with a little while ago when pushed for time:
Father God, please hold in your hands all my friends on the MN prayer thread.
Give comfort where there is distress
Give strength where there is doubt
Be merciful to us and ease our troubles
And may Your Love uphold and surround us all and all those known to us.
Amen

Dh says I should give a credit to St Francis

Roseylea · 26/11/2007 18:10

Lovely prayer NorthernLurker!

Praying for all, for your parents NQGU and for your stepdad Spooky and your friend's dp Clutteredup.

Panda I know what you mean - it tookme a while to get used to being a working mum too! (Athough I see my work as an expression of my mummminess IYSWIM - I go from being muma to home to dd and ds, to being mum in a big scary secondary school to all the waifs and strays!)

Mary your sermon sounds great. Not the easiest of subjects in lots of ways... (brain whirring away!)

Hi DO - my crohns is okay-ish atm. I have nearly come off steroids (hooray!) so I need to manage the transition carefully or else I might end up back on a bigger dosage again. So I am watching what I'm eating, and making sleep a priority over the next few weeks!

God bless all. I read this blessing this morning and was so struck by the beauty of the words:

The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.?? (Numbers 6, verses 25 and 26)

NorthernLurker · 26/11/2007 18:30

Thanks Rosey - I love that blessing - just says it all doesn't it?

notsofarnow · 26/11/2007 20:42

evening all. Feeling fed up - sorry! Know I shouldn't but I am. Its my birthday and if it wasn't for my friend I would have had no presents from the dc. xh took them shopping last week and apparantly there was nothing in the whole of Chester and Wrexham for me. When they asked him to take them shopping on Sat he said no as ds was too ill (he wasn't) So it was only when my friend texts dd to say did she have anything that she went shopping for them.

He has rung today to ask if ds is ok but no Happy Birthday, he did ring me last night to say oh yes I forgot to give you your card, you will have to have it whenever. aghhhh

I know its nothing in the greater scheme of things but just feeling fed up.

CaptainDippy · 26/11/2007 21:10

{{{{{{{nsfn}}}}}}} I would feel and fed-up too. you poor thing. FWIW - Happy Birthday!!!!! Sending you loads of virtual Chocolate or perhaps more appropriately for this thread Chocolate Jesus and Gifts xxxx

Hi Rosey - glad the Crohn's is ok-ish atm and that the doseage of Streiods is depleting.

Thanks for the quick prayer NL and the lovely verse Rosey - I love the idea of "God's countenance"

Brain is mush, can't remember anything else ....
