Bobsmum what a lovely song! I listened to it twice. Your friend is v. talented and anointed by the Holy Spirit.

We are all well - tired today! Had a long deep chat with dh this afternoon whilst the dc played at the park. We sorted out some stuff, and dh admitted that he has been v. fragile emotionally since his mum died 2 yrs ago. He said that at the time, he couldn't fall apart or really grieve as the dc were so small, his dad was devastated and I went into hospital 3 weeks after her death with pneumonia. So poor man, I think there's a lot of grief locked up inside him. He agreed that bereavement counselling would help, and agreed to look for a counsellor. Please pray for him, as he is quite a 'burdened' person, and IMO a lot of that burden is unexpressed grief. So that song, Bobsmum, from Mathew 11 (is that right? no bible handy) spoke to my dh very deeply.

Well dc to feed, packed lunches to make...! Only 2 weeks until the meet-up!

PandaG · 01/07/2007 17:24

hello all

had a lovely family day - church this am, then took the DC out fo rlunch and to see Shrek3, as a treat for good school reports. We had a lovely time

please can you pray for my friend's daughter, she is in hospital - 999 call on Friday morning, as she had a rash which failed the glass test. It is not meningitis, but don't know what it is. She is 8

will pray for you all, particularly your DH rosey.

CaptainCaveman · 01/07/2007 18:08

Praying for your friends dd Panda, must be awfully worrying for everyone. Good news that its not meningitis at least.

Update on A&J from church - she has bowel cancer, had surgery this week and is now home again, waiting for test results next friday. Please continue to pray for them, her dh is finding it very difficult, they are such a loving close couple.

Praise God, ds seems ok, no further 'eruptions' from either end
, and double Praise God for my assignment is well under construction and should be finished in time for the deadline this friday.

My friend whose house got flooded - has now had to move into a hotel with her dcs . Lord hold her and comfort her, she's had such an awful 5 months.

did someone say they had directions to the meet-up? If so could you post me a link?

bobsmum · 01/07/2007 18:41

Roseylea - I knew it would be for someone on here - so glad it was helpful. Praying for you dh that he'll be held fast and safe.

bobsmum · 01/07/2007 18:48

RL - meant to say the song was written about my friend's gran - they were really close.

Here are the lyrics if that helps?

You could never see the years in your eyes
To think of all they'd seen
All that they had laughed and cired
They could see with faith, those eyes were wise
Never giving in; "The Lord He always provides"

Come, those who are weary
Come, those who are heavy laden
Those who are burdened and I will give you rest

Memories of warmth, a place to confide
And many conversations we had by the fireside
So much of me inside of you I can see
And now I carry much of you inside of me

It's been a while since I last looked in those eyes
Although they gazed on death, they beheld a sunrise
And how I long to meet you beyond the skies
Ton run this race like you, to win the prize and hear Him say

Come, those who are weary
Come, those who are heavy laden
Those who are burdened and I will give you rest

Notquitegrownup · 01/07/2007 19:24

Flying by with prayers and hugs.

Mary and CCM, will CAT you with directions to the meet up. I want to pop out and check on the signposts for you to get off the A34 at the right turn.

God bless all.

CaptainCaveman · 01/07/2007 21:01

Thanks NQGU, I've just posted on the meet up thread too, but would appreciate you CATing me

Praise God, ds seems himself. Although he just called me into his bedroom to tell me his bottom smells of sick....ahh, just like his daddy in the fragrant wind stakes .

CaptainDippy · 01/07/2007 22:12

MaryBS · 02/07/2007 07:07

Aargh - I did type a big post yesterday, and it went "walkabout". I HATE it when that happens! .

Just to let you know you are all in my prayers.

The service went well yesterday, and people said how uplifting they found it. As always, a few minor glitches, but practise makes perfect!

CaptainDippy · 02/07/2007 10:17

Morning! A few spare moments while DD1 is watching Peppa Pig .....

Glad the service went well Mary - was thinking of you!

Nope - she's calling for me .... gotta go .....

ZipadiSuzy · 02/07/2007 14:17

Podmog, Is it for a childrens service?

Most of my ds friends have seen this film, although not 'Shrek the third' they are 11yo

I suppose you can only voice your opinion, see what happens, but!!!! if you are uncomfortable doing it, have you got to do it? don't feel bad with your beliefs.

I must say we put hymm lyrics to certain tunes and have great pleasure in doing so, but I can't recall doing any 'film theme tunes' could be a catch though for the younger generation.

ZipadiSuzy · 02/07/2007 14:20

It's a personal preference I should think.

Can you remember Cliff Richard doing the Lords Prayer to Auld Lang....

I liked that at the time.

CaptainCaveman · 02/07/2007 15:40

Podmog - I'm not sure how other people would take it, but from what I know of God wouldn't He be ecstatic that you were praising Him regardless of the tune? (He listens to my singing after all ) And He did bless us with a sense of humour

Sooz, friends dc are 4 and 2, have just been moved from familiar environment to new house and now into a hotel, poor lambs, and not through theirs or their mummys fault either . The btw is directed at their selfish daddy.

Praise God CD for Adams improvements, praying this continues.

Praise God too for assignment is 3 parts done, just a bit of tidying up, recommendations and conclusion to go. I was thinking earlier if I could cite "Inspiration by God" in my bibliography!!?
mini CC back at nursery so Praise God too for his recovery.

CaptainCaveman · 02/07/2007 15:41

and i meant to add podmog, that if it gets the message across to someone new isn't that just FAB?

fannyannie · 02/07/2007 15:43

"Would you be happy to sing adapted lyrics to a famous song from Shrek? I find it a little tacky to take something so commercial and try and turn it into a worship song?"

We've got a fab song that we sing to the Hokey Cokey at our after school service - it's the "Christmas" Hokey Cokey the kids love it, we love it and it has a message in it too

MaryBS · 02/07/2007 17:08

We sang a hymn to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon" once, to please a little girl with Down's syndrome (this was when I was a child). I wouldn't have a problem at all with using secular music to get across a religious message. Have you seen "The Manchester Passion"? That used a LOT of secular music to get its message across!

Having said that, I can understand why some people would feel uncomfortable. The important thing is WHY you are using the music. You are using the music to praise God, not to promote the film.

If you recall, I "adapted" the Lord's prayer for my reflection on Creation. ASAIK no-one found that offensive at church, although I was a little concerned they might.

MaryBS · 02/07/2007 17:08

That should be AFAIK (as far as I know)! Otherwise it makes no sense!

bobsmum · 02/07/2007 17:12

Podmog - is it the Rufus Wainright one? "Hallelujah". Or more along the lines of the Proclaimers? (one of whom is a Christian btw).

I know a great chorus to the tune of the Flintstones theme

bobsmum · 02/07/2007 17:14

A lot of traditional Victorian and turn of the century hymns are taken from old music hall favourites in an attempt to enthuse the congregations.

Roseylea · 02/07/2007 19:33

Go on, Bobsmum! Tell us your Flintstones chorus! Pleeeeeeease!!!!!

PandaG · 02/07/2007 19:38

God's love, is the best love, that the world has ever ever known

deeper than the deep sea laaa laaalaaa (panda can't remember)

higher than a rocket up in space
wider than the entire human race

Gpod love is the best love that the world has ever ever, has ever ever, has ever ever known

YABBADABBA DOO

or, to the Match of the Day theme

Wht don't yo put your trust in Jesus, and ask him to come in
he saw your need form up in heaven, and died to save your sin
why don't hyou take him as your saviour, and let him hold your hand
he will strengthen guide and keep you till you reach the promised land !!
