Depends a lot on the exact beliefs of the man himself.

He is likely to want to spend some time walking through the house. He might pray or light candles. If he is any way 'high church' then he might use heavy incense and a bell.

'Smudging' (basically a big, fat bunch of incense) is common. He might also suggest (or lay out) dishes of salt, herbs and crystals.

HTH

lulumama · 24/04/2007 20:33

not high church

asked what religion we were and said specifically would not be doing anything catholic!

have some sage, but don;t want to smudge myself, as feel a bit out of my depth

but , have a feeling, he has gone?!?

pirategirl · 24/04/2007 20:35

how does it 'feel' different?

TMPwearsCROCSforHEIFER · 24/04/2007 20:37

Oh deary!!

A real ghost

blimey - let me know what happens

[interested as not entirely convinced of such things emoticon]

fuzzywuzzy · 24/04/2007 20:47

Lulumama, a little off topic, wouldn't a Rabbi be able to help you out (you said you're Jewish that's why I suggest it).

Whenever we move into a new house there are compulsory prayers to be said in each room to cleanse the house before people can move in- I mean we can move in I suppose but it's always thougt best to cleanse a new residence first....

lulumama · 24/04/2007 20:49

pirate - cannot put my finger on it, but don;t sense him right now, unless am blocking him

fuzzy...rabbi is about 100 years old, and would not want to scare him and finish him off !

reead my other thread TMP!!

OP posts:
pirategirl · 24/04/2007 20:54

yes, maybe you are trying to somehow wish this wasnt happening-ie the blessing, or whatever you call it, and in doing so you are blocking him.

lulumama · 24/04/2007 20:56

i don;t mind him being in the house, but was getting scared, and was picking up on a lot, but have possibly stopped myself from seeing. being aware...

the blessing or ceremony or whatever, will help him realsie he has to move on

i hope!

ah I see, OK but if it doesn't work with the person visiting tomorrow perhaps ask the Rabbi's advice, I'm sure religious leaders are made of pretty stern stuff and don't scare so easy..... good luck for next week

fuzzywuzzy · 24/04/2007 20:58

ok I've lost my mind I meant person visiting next week obviously

lulumama · 24/04/2007 20:58

yes, i will !

it is all quite interesting, if a little bizarre!

no experience of this, but really interested in stuff like this, just read the other thread links - let us know how it goes

SSShakeTheChi · 24/04/2007 21:03

but lulu if the rabbi is an elderly man, perhaps he has had some experience of something like this before in the course of his life, don't you think? I was wondering if you couldn't just go and visit him, have a chat with him about it and ask him for some advice. Maybe he could recommend a blessing or prayers that you and your husband could perform together or a book you could read?

You sound a bit worried about what will happen on Monday. Is that right? Did you ask the man from the spiritualist church how he would go about it, what the proceedure is? Perhaps that would ease your mind a bit.

I knew a man who did this a few times (not from a spiritualist church) and it was from a Christian perspective - he said I think that 3 people bless the house together, going from room to room and ask the spirits to leave and that's it really.

SSShakeTheChi · 24/04/2007 21:04

sorry about the tipos!

lulumama · 24/04/2007 21:06

thanks sssshakes !

he might well have done, but am happy to try the spiritualist path first..

he is bringing a helper, and basically said they will walk around the house and tune in to what has been going on, and then perform a cleansing...

i am not too worried about it to be honest, it is just uncharted territory

DH is an atheist, and is more open to having the church people than a rabbi!

When I had this done, it was a case of lighting a candle and walking from room to room and saying some special prayers. That was it really. He brought some holy water and did a bit of sprinkling - I was fine with that as am used to the Catholic take on things. It wasn't weird or strange, except that I picked up everything the medium was feeling and seeing, more intensly than I normally would, but I felt he was in control, so I wasn't scared.

lulumama · 25/04/2007 07:15

thanks 3littlefrogs xx

Been following this closely! Good luck for Monday Lulu xxx

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 07:27

I find it interesting that the church would use smudging as a way to cleanse as that is an old pagan/wiccan ritual for cleansing new abodes, or really anything. White Sage is best.
Surely this would be some kind of heresy

SSShakeTheChi · 25/04/2007 08:06

fascinating the whole subject. Wondering how I would like having a ghost in the house. I have a leaning to any mumbo jumbo type stuff, so I think I might even enjoy the whole thing if nothing frightening was going on - but maybe not with dc in the house.

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 08:08

I know. I'd love to be really open to it, but am scared.

Less scared tho since one of my bf's died as would love to see him again.

maisondelulusGHOST · 25/04/2007 13:09
