A new place for us to share the lovely, silly and annoying things that happen in church life and share our great love of Graham Kendrick.

Lovely to see everyone back here (and welcome new thread members whatever your church preference).

I am now the singer in our band which has drums and everything. But I am off to the Cathedral for the midnight service at Christmas.

Our church has plain white mugs and proper coffee (just introduced). And doughnuts on the first Sunday of the month. And we have a catering type dishwasher thingy for washing them.

Will be popping in and out so may not keep up with the thread but will try!

SilenceOfThePrams · 07/12/2016 20:50

Gah socks by night!

We did every single verse of that a couple of years ago. It took hours.

SilenceOfThePrams · 07/12/2016 20:50

But is the coffee Kingdom Coffee?

imnotalpharius · 07/12/2016 20:55

I have a friend who's a Graham groupie, I thought she was going to throw underwear at him when he led the worship at Spring harvest a couple of years ago, I'll be honest he was an amazing worship leader, it was all so not about him.
niminy which Bethlehem carol sheet, I noticed they've brought a new one out this year, we've only just got rid of the amalgamation of myriad years and streamlined. Though the leader announcing half a dozen different numbers is a traditional part of Christmas!

DanyellasDonkey · 07/12/2016 21:16

Although I'm not RC, we have a beautiful church in our town and I have been known to frequent it for Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve - I always leave feeling I'm in the Christmas spirit whereas our local church is usually just full of drunks on the way home from the pub.

My only complaint is that it isn't very visitor-friendly. They are welcoming at the door but hand you a book and I have no idea where we're meant to be! Even if I look up the bit relating to Christmas Eve, I'm left looking like a numpty as everyone else knows what to do Blush

nickelbabeinamanger · 07/12/2016 21:17

We love a bit of rend collective for messy church (not mine that I'm not allowed to be at, but a localish one that is lovely)
And Yancy is fab Grin

nickelbabeinamanger · 07/12/2016 21:20

Incense is good but not good.
In one of the old threads, we agreed that incense-flavoured furniture polish is the way to go

nickelbabeinamanger · 07/12/2016 21:24

Nim how long is your curacy got left?
NV is leaving because NC (NVW) has got a new job. (I'm worried about that because she's been pretty useless at our church.)
So we've got a vacancy from march.
Of course, the entire leadership team needs to be sacked and replaced (cws, safeguarding officers) on top of that, for obvious reasons, but i'd come back if you came......

amammabear · 07/12/2016 21:30

Valamaldoran we have a catering standard dishwasher for our mugs... (So ner-ner... Lol) and I wonder if we're the same denomination...

nickelbabeinamanger · 07/12/2016 21:32

I'm autistic so a big fan of service booklets that tell you exactly what to do

nickelbabeinamanger · 07/12/2016 21:34

Dishwasher! Shock

amammabear · 07/12/2016 21:41

Catering standard dishwasher nickel... Dirty dishes on a tray go in on one side and come out the other side 90 seconds later... Grin

nickelbabeinamanger · 07/12/2016 21:43

Oooooooooooooooooooooooh

BackforGood · 07/12/2016 21:46

THs church is amazing. They give you hot drinks when you go in, as well as cookies and crisps. It's like being at soul survivor, but with chairs. Excellent teaching, not quite liberal enough for me, but still v v good. Worth a visit if you're in Birmingham

Which church is this Caulkheaded? I'm in Birmingham and like both crisps and cookies Grin
What is it called / where is it / what time are the services?

BackforGood · 07/12/2016 21:49

And then I had cause to explore the cupboards in the other church hall. Reader; we still have the full complement of greenware. Just sitting there, taking up space

We do too Silence of the Prams Grin
I only know as we got them all out and used them after a big circuit welcome service a couple of years ago - so there we go - it was worth saving them.

We have an industrial dishwasher too . Tis fab for a meal, but frankly not worth the 'warming up time' needed just for mugs for coffee. I'd rather take my turn washing up every now and then than drink from paper cups though.

Madhairday · 07/12/2016 22:01

It's Tim Hughes new church Back. Is it called Gas St or something like that?

I used to go to a huge vineyard church and they had donuts before every service. The kids still remember it as Donut Church and think all churches should follow. Fair enough...

My new church has a dishwasher too :-) ( I think. I'm a bad vicar's wife and have not explored the facilities proper as yet)Grin

Great to see lots of old faces and some new! Yaya!

amammabear · 07/12/2016 22:02

Backforgood that would be a LOT of mugs to hand wash... Confused

Madhairday · 07/12/2016 22:08

Gosh nickel, NV leaving already? That wasn't that long was it or have the years run away with me more than I realised

Rend collective! A favourite in our church and family. Dd and I went to see them live in Birmingham and they were fab. even though following a lighthouse will lead you far from safe to shore Grin

Madhairday · 07/12/2016 22:09

Awww heck. LUFFS. POSTED.

caulkheaded · 07/12/2016 22:17

THs church is Gas St. It's mega huge and has a morning, 4:00 and 6:30 service. I go to the 6:30 one. Love it. Very different to normal church which is also the job.

BackforGood · 07/12/2016 22:18

Sorry if I've confused amammabear Blush
If we have a big event, we put the dishwasher on. If we have a meal, we put the dishwasher on. Normally after service on a Sunday there's probably on 40 or so to wash (lot of folk don't drink tea or coffee, oddly), so it's not worth the warming up time.

niminypiminy · 07/12/2016 22:19

Aw Nickel that is so lovely of you. Sadly I'm just in the first year of my curacy so here for ages yet. I'm surprised NV is leaving already though!
