A new place for us to share the lovely, silly and annoying things that happen in church life and share our great love of Graham Kendrick.

So, ladies, I need your help!

I have to choose the carols for all age Christmas Day service. Help me choose! List your top favourites ...

Can you do "Come and join the celebration" please? We aren't allowed to do that :(

amammabear · 05/12/2016 21:56

Dutchoma well...

1 Choir and singing group I'm afraid
2 Worship group or proper band over organ, although I have played organ myself (and rung bells!)
3 overhead projector?! Are you all living in the dark ages? Lol! PowerPoint and multimedia please!
4 he's ok, but you can have too much of a good thing...

amammabear · 05/12/2016 21:59

Niminy we had triple chocolate cookies on Sunday!!! Grin

Nickel
happy clappy or traditional? Both I'm afraid... Need a good mixture!

nickelbabeinamanger · 05/12/2016 22:10

*Excellent quite eclectic there then Grin

nickelbabeinamanger · 05/12/2016 22:13

ninimy i would personally choose traditional...
what about doing half and half?
away in a manger, little donkey, mary had a baby, silent night (this works best with candles), o come all ye faithful, hark the herald, once in Royal, little town of bethlehem,

amammabear · 05/12/2016 22:27

You need to get Starry Night on that list!

Dutchoma · 05/12/2016 22:44

Joy to the World and Come and join the celebration apart from all the others.

Tuo · 06/12/2016 00:27

Ooh, helloooooo!

I doubt I'll be able to keep up with this, but I'll come and say hello occasionally anyway.

I'm Tuo... full on bells & smells here, choir (to listen to... sadly tone deaf!) and all that goes with it. (However, I do have quite a high tolerance threshold for other types of worship - I just wouldn't choose it as my natural home...) . Oh and coffee in mugs. I also have a predilection for silence and contemplation.

Niminy... Sans Day Carol, and While Shepherds Watched, but only if sung to Lyngham (this is the tune that's often used where I grew up, and it's MUCH better than the traditional tune).

Lovely to see this thread back. Enjoy chatting!

Anybody else doing special readings for advent? I have found
these very helpful.

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 06/12/2016 09:03

We are singing very traditional stuff for our Christmas Day service which is pitched as an all ages service.

Unto us a Child is Born, O Come all the Faithful, Angels from the Realms of Glory and Ding Dong.

We will have had Silent Night And In the Bleak Midwinter at other services as these are my absolute favourites. I love the really old carols such as Coventry Carol and Adam lay Abounden but they are hard for the congregation to sing. Some of the new stuff such as Mary Did you Know? Is also lovely but not well known enough for most people.

I do like choosing the carols at Christmas!

CaulkheadupNorthStill · 06/12/2016 13:24

I just found these mugs at church...

imnotalpharius · 06/12/2016 13:43

Ooo can I join you? We have the traditional green cups and saucers at church, which most churches I've been to have. There is a stash of eclectic jumble sale mugs which are dug out by the few who know!

CaulkheadupNorthStill · 06/12/2016 13:52

Our normal mugs are bone China, with the church name on one side and an image representing the job of the saint on the other. I'm not a fan

nickelbabeinamanger · 06/12/2016 14:58

Ooh, I like those caulk

May I please add at this moment that I actually don't like coffee at all? I drink tea Grin

nickelbabeinamanger · 06/12/2016 14:59

We might need to see those one too.

nickelbabeinamanger · 06/12/2016 15:00

Go tell it on the mountain.

nickelbabeinamanger · 06/12/2016 15:01

Girls and boys leave your toys.
That's got a lovely allage alleluia chorus.

CaulkheadupNorthStill · 06/12/2016 15:14

You'll need to wait till tomorrow, it's too cold to work at church today so I've come home. They are nice mugs, but stain too easily inside. They're also shiny so it's been known for one to be returned to the cupboard with milk in it, and us only be alerted a few weeks later by the horrific smell.

amammabear · 06/12/2016 15:31

We have been doing Mary Did You Know this year and our kids choir did it last year

amammabear · 06/12/2016 15:34

We used to have the green ribbed cups and saucers, we now have Denby cups and saucers and Ikea mugs. All green, but the both the mugs and cups are near impossible for me to hold so I have my own there with pictures of my kids on. The last two I'd taken got "accidentally" disposed of but with this one, no-one can deny its mine!

SilenceOfThePrams · 06/12/2016 15:43

May I join you?

Worship band not choir here, drums not organ, Audiovisual wotsit not Ohp or hymnal, and GK, meh, prefer Matt Redman and Tim Hughes.

But all that goes out of the window for the annual carol service which must be full on choir and nine lessons and everything else.

I promise to come early to get a good seat at the back and not criticise anyone else's choices if that makes me more welcome?

I'll even wash up the mugs and clean the filter in the coffee maker after the service...

Dutchoma · 06/12/2016 15:46

That's just the sort of person we want isn't it girls? Altough NoisyPrams would also be good.

amammabear · 06/12/2016 17:52

I sit at the back too, we call it the naughty corner...

Off out to a choir concert tonight... In the fog... Wish me luck!

Dutchoma · 06/12/2016 17:56

Our choir carol concert is not till next week, practice tonight.
