What a lovely day! I picked up XH at 9.30 and sat outside the mosque with a mocha for half an hour. We then went to have brunch and shopping. He bought DS and himself a new outfit including matching DM shoes, so cute! I went to accessorise and chose several things in the sale. After dropping XH home DS and I are at home making his new Lego set. Well he's making it and I'm on here! We decided not to bother with dinner since we were all a bit tired so I'm considering a takeaway :)

greeneggs I have just opened my beautiful smelling gift! thank you! It's gorgeous. I can't stop smelling it. Thank you so much Flowers

Yummy how was your Eid? Did your parcel arrive?

yummytummy · 28/07/2014 20:33

MrsAtticus · 28/07/2014 21:17

autumnsmum that's fab! I'm sure your support helped a lot.
Eid mubarek everyone, we kind of started celebrating last night as we were eating iftar in the mosque when they announced eid. So we did pressies very late last night and had not much sleep before eid prayer. Just ordered takeaway.

Hope everyone has had a good day and may Allah accept our efforts this Ramadan.

I have been an occasional lurker on this thread during ramadan but just wanted to take the opportunity to say eid mubarak from Egypt. BrewCake

Hope you have all had a lovely first day of Eid.

Blush thanks crescent
I just want DS to be happy, secure and confident in who he is. I'm not going to lie and say that I agree with every tenet or teaching of Islam but I pick and choose the bits I like! And I feel that by participating I am giving value to it in DS eyes and teaching him to be proud of his background.
I'm glad everyone had nice days yesterday and I'll see you all next year, if not before!

greeneggsandjam · 29/07/2014 10:56

Cresecentmoon, yes the chocolate coins made me laugh! I always used to love getting chocolate coins. Tell your children they were a great choice and I will THINK about sharing them with my children :)

Thank you for the list of places to boycott... its rather big isn't it?! I have to get back into the swing of thing regarding boycotts. I did put something back on the shelf the other day when I noticed it was from Israel. I think it was lychees. Why is it that lots of the things sold in halal shops are made by Nestle?? A bit of a pain about M&S, I tend to go in there to grab school uniform and I always seem to be given vouchers for there too. I have vouchers for them just waiting to be spent!

I enjoyed the eid prayer too. I avoided going for quite a long time as it was often such a squeeze that you could barely find space and everyone just seemed to be getting pushed and shoved around. Someone was always complaining. Anyway the past few times have been nicer and I have avoided being elbowed and moved. I went to an early prayer this time and them sat and people watched others going to and from the next couple of prayers which was interesting! Such a variety of people ranging to those who appear to almost live at the mosque to those who have never been, don't usually wear a scarf and are stressing about what to do and where to go. Then there's the array of outfits from jeans and hoodie to sparkly flowing dresses.

That's one strange eid gift crescentmoon, I have no idea how you managed to come across that, did you have to order it from America? How was 1eid yesterday if you went? I still plan to go today but its feeling like a big effort at the moment!

greeneggsandjam · 29/07/2014 10:58

Ehric, I'm glad you liked the gift. You never quite know how it will be when you send it direct from the supplier but hope you manage to use it!

Hi everyone we had our first Eid yesterday , my partner went to mosque in the morning and then I bought each of our three children a gift , we had a takeaway in the evening , it was a lovely day

mum786 · 29/07/2014 19:49

As all of yu celebrate the glorious month of Ramadhan, please think and keep making duas for the people in Gaza. That is what some of us did yesterday- sitting and talking about it and making plans to raise funds.

mum786 · 29/07/2014 19:50

sorry about grammar- 'you'

peacefuloptimist · 30/07/2014 17:59

Salam sisters

Eid mubarak to you all. I have been busy partying since Monday. Just kidding. I had a really boring Monday with dh but since then have been doing stuff with friends everyday which has been fun. Does anyone else have a really antisocial husband. I always spend eid day with him thinking we will do something but we never do. I think next eid I will do eid salah together then head off and do my own thing with dc. In my culture the girls normally spend eid at their mums but I felt bad in the past to leave dh on his own for eid. Not anymore. This year I'm doing a 4 day eid maybe even 5 days. [Grin] anyway hope you are all well. Which charities have you given to for gaza. I keep telling people to donate but one person in particular has been putting doubts in my mind saying the isrealis won't let any aid in anyway. Did anyone watch Jon snows video about the children of gaza. It's very emotional. He said something that keeps plaguing me. He said we are all responsible for what is happening to gazas children because we don't care enough to end it. It sent shivers up my spine. Do you think Allah will ask us about them? What can we do? I have tried to limit my spending this eid because I don't feel right to be spending money on non essentials when gazans are being terrorised by israel. Anyway don't want to put too much of a downer on the thread. May Allah protect the people of Gaza and restore back to the Palestinians their stolen land. Ameen.

Elusive · 31/07/2014 00:43

Salaam all,

Hope everyone is well.

I didnt even know that people started fasting on saturday - i thought everyone started sunday this time. I am so glad that the vast majority did Eid on the same day. I am sure i read a hadith once - cant remember it fully and cant find it on the internet. It said something like if half of the muslims do one thing and half do the same thing at a later time, then they are all sinful. Basically the moral of it was that we are one ummah, we should do things together. Anyway, i know i have been vague because I dont remember the full hadith myself Blush , it wasnt about eid though.

peaceful i gave my zakat (both of them) to Islamic Relief. I gave sadaqah to human appeal. My zakat went to palestine, sudan and syria and a small amount went to Pakistan. I pray that Allah gives me more money so that I can give more zakat and sadaqah Grin

I think Gaza is in everyone's prayers. That poem that you posted cres, by Zeba Khan on the other thread, it is haunting me Sad

Do you think the oppressors have nightmares? or do they just live happily in the moment. Sorry for the downer again.

Hi, please may I ask a probably stupid question? It seems silly to start a whole thread! I bought an Eid card for a friend, but we had to cancel the plans we made around the right time so i still haven't given it to her. We haven't made a new plan yet and I might not see her till at least next week now. Should I give it to her or save for next year? Thank you Thanks

greeneggsandjam · 31/07/2014 13:13

You could always save it for the next Eid coming up at the beginning of October? I don't really like getting things well after the event, seems kind of pointless but its up to you really :)

PurplePidjin · 31/07/2014 13:27

exactly - i wouldn't send a Christmas card this late!

Thanks, crescent that's quite a long way away from me. Hopefully I'll see her around the right time in October! Thank you for your help Thanks

greeneggsandjam · 01/08/2014 20:31

This is a very quiet thread! Was it only popular during Ramadan and Eid?

Salam Crescentmoon. I was also at the Eid event yesterday! I stayed until around 3 and then wandered around the nearby streets, it was nice and quite busy especially around the food areas! Shame you didn't make it to the other event though.
