With regards to not eating at certain times I also tend to hide it, even at home sometimes! I also try not to eat too much so it isn't a shock to the system when I am back to fasting again. I certainly don't eat outside!

No worries about the lack of wrapping crescentmoon. I am impressed with myself for getting my gifts out on time to you all!

To the last poster who feels loneliness during Eid, it is always a bit of a let down, go to the mosque (maybe), find no one to speak to then go home. Like a normal day. I know the feeling. That's why I think events like 1Eid are really nice. Even though you still probably don't know anyone there!!

greeneggsandjam · 27/07/2014 18:29

Eid Mubarak to everyone for tomorrow!

mum786 · 27/07/2014 20:13

crescentmoon-you are a wondeful person- Eid Mubarak!!

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 27/07/2014 21:22

Is it definitely Eid tomorrow? Just googled and though most places say yes some things say as the moon won't be sighted here it should be Tuesday Confused

littleducks · 27/07/2014 21:28

ah that question. ....

Some people do eid on the day that the moon can be sighted locally (some specify by eye others with a telescope)

some people do eid on the day that the moon can be sighted in a Muslim country (often Saudi)

some people do eid when the moon can be seen somewhere in the world

(feel free to add another criteria for moon sighting that I have missed)

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 27/07/2014 21:36

So will there be people in the UK tomorrow not celebrating? Isn't that a bit fractured and strange? Do you follow your local mosque or your family tradition or what?

Thank you! I haven't done that well, I missed 12 days altogether, 4 for period, 4 for illness and 4 odd days that I couldn't cope with, either just too tired or too hot. I've bettered last year though (15/30) so I'm working up!

LostHasBeenFound · 27/07/2014 22:09

Eid Mubarak sisters

May you all have a lovely day tomorrow. May Allah swt accept all our prayers and fasts. And as Elusive says please pray for Palestine, and all the other countries suffering hardship.

This month has been a month of reflection for me, I haven't been around much as I've been trying to focus on reading as much as possible, and bettering myself as a person. I've had a pretty awful year this year, but my dc have kept me going.

Ehric I actually come on just now as I was thinking of you, I've struggled with the fasting and lack of sleep this year, and I was thinking how inspirational you were fasting whilst not being a Muslim yourself. I think it's commendable and you should be proud of yourself. May you and your lovely little ds have a lovely eid.

Sis crescent, you've helped me so much over the last 18 months, thank you. Your wisdom is pretty awesome.

Peaceful, elusive, littleducks, fuzzy, mum786, greeneggs, ummShi, yummy, betty, atticus and anyone else who has posted on the tearoom (sorry if I've forgotten anyone obvious), Eid Mubarak xxxx

can you tell I'm feeling nostalgic Grin

greeneggsandjam · 27/07/2014 22:21

So who in the UK isn't celebrating Eid tomorrow??

We aren't.

It's Tuesday/Wednesday for us.

We celebrate when moon can be seen in UK. Big pre eid kids party tomorrow for children who have been coming to daily Quran and Islamic studies classes (I found that much harder this year as they are ask after school rather than a holiday activity)

it is a bit disjointed but the community is quite big here (London) so I don't notice. SIL finds it awkward. Only time it had ever been an issue was when I couldn't buy meat ready for eid as butcher was celebrating that day. ..... But that was me being a bit lay minute!

littleducks · 27/07/2014 22:38

I wanted to post name by name but I'm on my phone so I'm worried I might miss someone so EID MURRAY to you all.

Selks · 27/07/2014 22:42

Not quite sure which day Eid falls on (I'm not Muslim myself) but just wanted to call in to wish you all a joyous and happy Eid Smile

My daughter in law's family will all be celebrating Hari Raya (Eid) tomorrow, they are in Brunei, I wish I was there too as I know it will be a huge loving celebration Smile - the hospitality and feasting out there is second to none, as I experienced last year Grin

I am surprised there are people in London choosing not to celebrate Eid tomorrow. Regents Park mosque, East London Mosque and Finsbury mosque (all pretty big) are doing it tomorrow.

I have no food cooked for tomorrow. I will take it as it comes.

Crescentmoon, if you have any idea about the nearest public transport to the 1eid event in Ilford could you let me know??

I am kind of sad Ramadan is over even though the days have been so long. When Eid was announced for tomorrow I was torn between being happy and sad.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 28/07/2014 07:08

I'm taking DS to his dad's this morning then I will drop them at the mosque which has an amazing 'multi-ethnic' supermarket nearby (I use that word because it pretty much has everything! Indian, Japanese, North African, Lebanese etc) and I will buy some samosas and other nice bits that I'm no good at cooking myself. I might cook a cous cous but as it's only the 3 of us eating I don't need to make too much. DS announced yesterday that he will buy me two presents today for Eid and my birthday (tomorrow) lol so we will see what his father comes up with. at least now DS is old enough to insist on buying me something...
Do you normally buy new clothes for your children? What about adults? I have treated it like Christmas in that I have bought something for each that they will like/use but not clothes. DS has plenty and really doesn't need more. But I don't know if I should have bought clothes as more traditional?

autumnsmum · 28/07/2014 09:51

Eid Mubarak everyone ! Quick update I posted ages ago to say my partner had reverted . He has managed the whole of Ramadan , with the rest of us eating normally , I'm very proud of him

littleducks · 28/07/2014 10:38

hope everyone is having a good day. It's crazy hot and humid here with thunderstorms early in the morning. Hope that anyone organising outside events prepared some shade. ..... which seems funny as the normal worry is rain!

greeneggs- London is very mixed with lots of Muslim communities Alhamdillilah, I didn't realise how many originally. I keep meaning to take my kids for iftar at some other centres bit have got less and less adventurous as they have grown!

autumnsmum that is impressive! I converted 12 years ago now and so was eased in with sort fasts.

selks- Thank you for the well wishes. sounds amazing.

My kids are glad of the extra time as the both had hifz targets for Eid..... and are both 2 lines short! One had Surah Alaq the other Surah Qadr though so wire a difference in overall length but somehow they both still need to get 2 more lines perfect!

greeneggsandjam · 28/07/2014 17:46

Well done to your partner autumnsmum.

Yes littleducks, I know how diverse the Muslim community of London is! I just find it strange that there are some not celebrating today that's all. It happens every year anyway, just a shame.

Crescentmoon I opened your gift when I got home a little while ago. Wow! That was extremely kind of you! I do love perfume and I look forward to using this one. I have never had a Calvin Klein one before. That was so generous of you and very much the kind of thing I appreciate so thank you:)

The other gift I received was a loom band bracelet and necklace :)

I hope you have all had a fun day and have more things planned for tomorrow. I think I am about ready for bed now!
