@Becky332 did it never occur to you to Google Banter Bulldogge and think "My dog looks nothing like those pictures, but looks surprisingly like a Pitbull!"?

It's illegal to own her if she is a Pitbull. That's the bottom line. The only way to keep her is for her to be seized, you be taken to court, convicted of owning a banned breed, then hoping that the court decides to add her to the index of exempt dogs.

What has your vet been saying when you've been taking her for vaccinations?

I hear what you are saying but you don’t know what I have been going through lately so please don’t judge

@Becky332

im sorry for whatever you've been going through, but this could cost your dogs life.

Finding out what you needed to do was very important.

shes gorgeous by the way!

the legislation is utterly ridiculous. It won't work, but it's putting a lot of stress in good people & none in the wrong' us.

@viques

🤣🤣🤣🤣

yeah right.

@Becky332 why why why have you not done something about this before now?

why have you ended up with this puppy if you can't afford it?

do you even have insurance?

I can afford it just not obviously by the date they have put as I’ve had my kids birthdays and a lot too pay out they’ve just made the date so soon . Also all over TikTok before all throughout December everybody was saying not too get an exemption as this may all get turned around etc so was a bit of a stressful month then had my kids birthdays after Christmas was all a lot and yeah I have insurance yes

Come on OP that looks nothing like a Banter Bulldog FFS

Why would the ban be reversed?

What does your policy say? Most companies such as PetPlan specifically exclude banned breeds, so any insurance taken out for them would be invalid.

Star81 · 31/01/2024 17:33

How did you manage to get insurance when you didn’t know what breed she was ? I’d be careful if you have got it wrong as this may mean the dog is not a fully insured as details are wrong

Yes I did google but when she was younger it was really hard too tell but as she just got a big bigger that’s when I started too notice she does look like a pitbull and ohh right 🫣😬😬 and the vets have not said anything at all I did try too ask them what they think she may look like but they’ve said they couldn’t tell me they really didn’t know

Muzzle your dog when you are out in public. I don't care what breed it is.

Here's the disclaimer on PetPlan policies.

feathermucker · 31/01/2024 17:40

You need to get the dog's claws cut and she needs spaying. If she is an XL, I believe the time has passed for exemption?

Whilst you may have had your kid's birthdays etc, this was first announced in September.

To me, she looks like a lab/pitbull cross which is a banned breed anyway.

JellyBeanFactory · 31/01/2024 17:42

OP - you must get this sorted as soon as possible, your dogs life depends on it. You must get a muzzle for her to wear when she is in public and you must get those nails sorted - is she walked daily? I have dogs and although they free run in the woods/fields on soft ground, we pavement walk to get there so nails are generally kept "filed". She will do someone a nasty injury is she scratches them.

And please, don't leave her unsupervised with any children, no matter what her breeding turns out to be.

NotARealWookiie · 31/01/2024 17:51

Your dog looks lovely but first impressions is pitbull and the nails need trimming - they are long enough to cause pain and can lead to permanent deformities. Ask the vet to do it tomorrow and discuss spaying. I’m sure your neighbour is nice but ultimately they are a backyard breeder having a go at breeding a designer dog.

I would muzzle this dog in public as it’s likely tonne reported as a pit bull or an xl bully. People are getting much more concerned about dangerous bull breeds at the moment. I’ve had multiple comments about my Staffordshire bull terrier despite it being 13kg and clearly being a Stafford. You will be reported if people see your dog unmuzzled or off lead.

Walking2024now30days · 31/01/2024 17:52

@Becky332

where did this woman up the road get her from?

you really should have prioritised her life over your kids presents & parties. You could have bought them a small surprise & promised them a present when you had more money becayse 'doggy NEEDS this so they don't take her away'. Kids understand that stuff

I'm really am sorry about the family stuff & of course you don't need to say what has been going on!

you do need someone to cut her nails, get a price off the vets & off local groomers. Perhaps get the groomer/vets to show you how to do it.

I do think she's gorgeous, & as 'we are where we are'. I'd decide that she's a 'red lab' x 'something & get that in file at the vets. Keep working on the muzzle training & use it at all times & do whatever else is required & keep her out of trouble so she sails under anyone's radar & pray. A LOT!

itsmyp4rty · 31/01/2024 17:52

What sort of dog is the mother OP?

Ok and this is what I have said she was sold too me under that breed when she was younger and like I said I can see she does not look like that breed now

All xl bully's have pit in them that's how they are made up. She looks like an xl to me (I have one) there's not much you can do now about the exemption because that closed at noon.

mitogoshi · 31/01/2024 17:54

You need to ask the breeder if she's still around exactly what the mix is

Ginandjuice57884 · 31/01/2024 17:54

Justcallmebebes · 31/01/2024 15:27

Surely if she's not an xl bully you don't have to do anything?

Unfortunately, that's not how BSL works. It's incredibly flawed. It's based on measurements and subjective criteria, which are often not actually breed specific.

3smallpups · 31/01/2024 17:56

Physically she meets all the criteria for an xl bully
You could certainly be in trouble if spotted out walking
I would at least muzzle and leash walk and hope no one reports you at this point !

whatsitcalledwhen · 31/01/2024 18:00

Do you, looking back, see how ridiculously irresponsible it was to introduce this dog into a family home knowing so little about the breed?

Now you're pretty sure she's a pit bull, what measures have you taken to safeguard your children?

And I also wonder why the dog's nails are so long? I'm not a pit bull fan but it's not fair to leave any dog with nails too long.

Seasaltsquall · 31/01/2024 18:02

LizzoBorden · 31/01/2024 16:39

She may not be an XL bully but she's definitely a bully breed that you never wanted, you can't afford to register, you've bought from presumably a backyard breeder as you have no papers, she has horribly long nails and you're bringing up around children. I'm questioning quite a lot of the thinking that you've got going on tbh.

I'm afraid I have to agree with this comment. Those nails are indicative of an unwalked/unexercised dog. Not great. My guess is she's a Pitbull or PitbullX, so I'd be getting her DNA done. It's not expensive and would clarify things. Generally people sell their dogs to other people in this manner/on Pets4Homes/internet as they've been a problem dog, or are completely untrained. I hope I'm wrong with all of this, but having worked for an animal charity, my gut says not. Please never, ever leave your children unsupervised around her.

Seasaltsquall · 31/01/2024 18:05

BloodandGlitter · 31/01/2024 17:17

Not defending OP here but a lot of vets now recommend spaying/neutering later in larger breed dogs to allow the growth plates to close.

Yes they do. And so do decent breeders.

Alwaysalwayscold · 31/01/2024 18:07

Irresponsible people like you are exactly the reason these dogs needed to be banned.

3smallpups · 31/01/2024 18:09

Don't waste money on dna testing
It's very unreliable and will not be accepted as proof of breed
