Help me find a (close) replacement kitten for DS

One of my DS has quite significant anxiety. He is 9, but emotionally quite young & has been through a lot with various medical and emotional things going on.

I’d agreed with DS to get him a kitten, and we discussed that kitten would be a nice focus for him if he’s feeling anxious, and he was so very excited and proud at the prospect of caring for said kitten. I felt this may also in some way help regulate some of his anxiety and he loves to care for our neighbours and friends cats.

So we selected a kitten from a supplier, and DS set his heart on the one chosen, including naming him and choosing all the items said kitten would require. DS counting down the days until we can collect him - and I’d booked next Friday off work to be able to do this (also coinciding with an inset day.)

This morning we hear from kitten supplier that sadly kitten has passed away (evidently wasn’t viable and there were no signs or obvious cause, just one of those things, sadly.) I honestly daren’t tell my son - it’s been such a huge focus for him, and he’s been so looking forward to bringing kitten home.

Would the collective MN community have any leads as to a close-ish replacement? This may be a real long shot. But I simply can’t break this to my son until I have a back up plan.

Ideally replacement kitten would be in or around greater London / home counties / SE area.

Image of original kitten enclosed. I do appreciate the kitten is not replaceable but I’m really keen to at least have another close-ish option so I don’t simply come to my son with bad news.

Isn’t that amazing @Vinorosso74 ! The rescue was absolutely fantastic and so helpful. When we got the call about him, he did immediately feel a good fit and we stopped our search straight away (I had a good feeling.) Felt terrible we couldn’t take his siblings too, but they assured us the original litter of 4 were each going to loving homes. My son and him seemed to “click” on first sight. We kept his original name - to honour his beginnings (and we have some Italian names our side too so it just works!) Really nice to hear he’d have been a sighted option.

Lovely to hear positive feedback. Place was a bit chaotic yesterday with lots of laundry! We have had, and still do, lot of kittens this year, some more shy then we had that litter who were just so confident. Remember, the rescue centre are there if you have any questions. I hope you will all be very happy!

Well done OP for taking all the advice on board and getting a rescue. Leonardo is gorgeous and I hope you and your family have many happy years with him - he looks like a mischievous one!

Can you not spin in and say that the new cat really wanted to live with you and the breeder decided to give you the "special one" as you have such an amazing home for a kitten?

But, there are so many rescue centres out there at this time of year with hundreds of kittens and cats who need a home. Why don't you go along to a rescue and change the life of an abandoned kitten or cat?

If you had read the thread you would have seen that the OP has sourced a lovely cat from a rescue

Thanks @Floralnomad !! Never ceases to amaze me how people cruise in not having read the thread with their helpful advice!

Leonardo has had a fab day and has some favoured spots.

This is such a lovely story. For anyone else looking, there are so many rescue kittens wanting homes right now. Here are five near Bristol who haven't had any enquiries yet... 😢

Pleased to hear Leonardo has had a good day. I thought this litter may have gone quicker but rehoming is slow and there are still kittens needing homes alongside adults and a lovely senior lady.
@GardeningIdiot they are cute!

@Vinorosso74 He’s had a brilliant day. He’s eating well, using his litter no problems, and has no interest at all in staying in a quiet/safe area! He’s roamed all round the house, not left a corner or a shelf or a cupboard unexplored!

He loves the stairs for chilling out and the window sills. We are just very much following his cue and taking our lead from him. He’s incredibly curious and active! Definitely loves some attention. I thought he may enjoy some quiet time whilst kids were at school - but no - he followed me round the house, managed to turn my computer on and off several times, scampered about and generally wanted to be near by which was very sweet. I’m finding him very sociable in fact. And certainly very active. I was a little worried he may be missing his sister. But he’s getting so much love and affection here that hopefully he won’t be too forlorn. I’m really pleased the kids were happy to keep his original name - it suits him and it will also always remind us of his legacy and origins!

@GardeningIdiot thanks so much for the encouragement! It’s definitely very much appreciated. And gosh aren’t they just a beautiful bunch.

Oh he's adorable. And I agree his name suits him so well! So pleased it's going swimmingly, @TheJourneyAhead.

Neekoh · 07/07/2023 10:27

What a handsome cat he is, and how lovely that he's already so lively and confident.
