How do I tell my mum!

amummyy · 14/11/2022 23:56

So I just got a puppy but my mum hasn't said yes to it yet.

Me and the dog are currently hiding in my room. How do I tell her I got it!😭😂

bevelino · 15/11/2022 00:05

You need to tell her now as you can hardly hide a puppy in your room. Be prepared for your mum to be very cross with you if there was no discussion about having a dog.

DornChorus · 15/11/2022 00:06

Teach it to speak and then it can tell her itself.

DuchessDandelion · 15/11/2022 00:06

@amummyy actual tips are going to depend on circumstances. How old you are being a key one.

I'm an adult and about to get a flat but it might fall through. This is all happening tomorrow

OK. Here it is, op. 1) you just need to tell her 2) if you're a teenager, I'm guessing you'll be in a fair amount of trouble and you've behaved incredible irresponsiblly in a way which is not fair to the puppy at all. I would also doubt that the puppy has come from a reputable breeder. 3) if you're an adult with a level of financial independence then hopefully (a) you did proper due diligence into where the puppy came from and (b) you're capable of taking on the care and financial responsibility of your new dog. Whether you're able to keep the dog while living at home is another matter. Either way, you'll need to be prepared to regime the puppy if your parents refuse to have it at home.

watcherintherye · 15/11/2022 00:12

What possessed you to get a puppy just as you’re about to move? Who’s going to look after it when you’re at work - your Mum?

DuchessDandelion · 15/11/2022 00:12

If you're likely to be moving out in the next few days to weeks then I guess it'll work out but be prepared for serious apologising and grovelling.

I still think you've been fairly irresponsible.

I'm an adult who is very much financially stable and know how to take care of a dog.

The puppy is from a reputable registered breaded and has all of its papers and will be insured once I find the right company.

I think I'm just going to tell her but I don't know if I bring the dog with me or not 😭😂 she has seen pictures of the dog before I got it but I don't think she believe that I would actually get it. She said she thinks the dog is cute in the pictures just not sure if she is okay with it in her home!

"I'm an adult who is very much financially stable and know how to take care of a dog"

it certainly doesn't sound like it

Which is why I still think you've been irresponsible.

Good luck, though, you know your mum and we don't- I hope she falls in love with pup and doesn't mind the secrecy surprise!

figital · 15/11/2022 00:18

Why didn't you check with her before you brought it home? Just tell her.

DontGoBreakingMyHeart · 15/11/2022 00:21

Reputable breeder my arse.

No reputable breeder would have sold you a dog. Reputable breeders insist on doing home checks, meeting the family etc. So let’s cross that one off the list…

My 20 year old casually mentioned the other day that his gf’s friend had a litter of puppies and they’d said they would have one. And he would be bringing it here because apparently once I saw the puppy I wouldn’t be able to turn it away.

I informed him that if he brought home a puppy he could either move out with immediate effect or I would be taking the puppy to a rescue.

You have been stupid and irresponsible, and if you have any common sense at all you’ll return the puppy to the breeder in order that it find a decent home.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/11/2022 00:24

She will find out sooner or later Smile

KitchiHuritAngeni · 15/11/2022 00:24

A reputable breeder who didn't do a home check on the new owner who has to hide their new pet in a room because she didn't get permission from the homeowner to have it there.

Shitshow all round really.
