How do I tell my mum!

So I just got a puppy but my mum hasn't said yes to it yet.

Me and the dog are currently hiding in my room. How do I tell her I got it!😭😂

It's your mums , not yours.

Why did you do it when it's her home and she didn't confirm? Again, that's important information as without more context she has every right to be very annoyed so you need to start with an apology to her for doing this behind her back when if affects her home.

Because I'm getting my own flat, hopefully tomorrow... I said this already.

So why didn’t you wait until you were in your own flat to pick up the puppy?

I am going to pay insurance for the puppy, I think they need to start charging people to use this app.

@DuchessDandelion is just asking for a picture of the puppy. That’s what ‘puppy tax’ or ‘cat tax’ etc means on here :)

Dartmoorcheffy · 15/11/2022 01:19

Ill ask again. Does this flat have a garden? Will the landlord allow a puppy. Who will look after it when you are at work. People like you are the reason so many dogs are in rescue.

chali7 · 15/11/2022 01:20

I could have written this 4 years ago when I got a puppy and didn't tell my mum either 🤣

(For context ... I was a sensible and settled woman with a daughter, my own home, very good career etc but i just knew my mother would have some sort of issue with my choice to get a dog)

I told her I was puppy sitting for a friend 😅 clearly she caught on eventually and was not happy, we did not speak for some time 🙄

She wasn't happy, but she's never been asked to look after the dog, walk the dog, feed the dog, or do anything with the dog - so I'm not sure what the problem was with me getting a dog... She's still mad even now 🤣 I wouldn't change getting him for the world though.

monsteramunch · 15/11/2022 01:20

It's not a great sign someone will be a responsible dog owner if they 'hopefully' have accommodation but don't have it yet tbh.

Did you get the dog from a responsible breeder? I'm assuming not as one of those wouldn't have sold a puppy to you until you were in a new place and settled.

Here's hoping you WFH or have provisions in place to adequately supervise and support a puppy.

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/11/2022 01:25

So you have taken it upon yourself to take a dog into a home belonging to someone else, without their permission.

You are hopefully getting a flat tomorrow but there is no guarantee.

You are also TTC.

Wow.....I agree with a PP that you certainly do not seem capable of putting anyone elses needs or rights above your wants, so no you are not able to properly look after the dog and much MUCH less the poor child you are trying to conceive.

Do everyone a favour, rehome the dog and keep your legs crossed until you have grown up a bit, there is more to being an adult than age.

MistyRock · 15/11/2022 03:36

What a bizarre thread!

SoosanCarter · 15/11/2022 04:23

I bet it’s a French bulldog

goshdoyoumeantobsorude · 15/11/2022 04:33

You are totally unreasonable to bring an animal I'm to a home run by some one else. You are totally selfish.

marcopront · 15/11/2022 04:37

I am trying to understand the scenario where you don't know if you are able to move into a flat the day before you are due to move.

StopThe · 15/11/2022 04:39

Give over.

Dogs don’t belong in flats anymore than they do locked up in your mum’s bedroom.

SunshineAndFizz · 15/11/2022 05:04

Will your mum be mad because she'll have to look after it while you're at school?

MistyRock · 15/11/2022 05:04

StopThe · 15/11/2022 04:39

Give over.

Exactly what I'm thinking.

Herejustforthisone · 15/11/2022 05:28

Does the partner you’re trying to conceive with also live at your mum’s?

I presume you work full time, your other threads suggest so, and you want to leave a poor puppy all day in a flat..? Or maybe your partner doesn’t work/WFH and can take care of it and train it? What a mess. I hope it isn’t true.

I would pay too! I get far too much entertainment from it!!

CarrieOnStop · 15/11/2022 06:54

I'm going Cockapoo

And how is the puppy doing it's business if it is locked in your bedroom?

ladydimitrescu · 15/11/2022 07:32

Hopefully getting your own flat? So you don't even know?
Yeah YABU - and ttc, and living at your mums, whole thing is a disaster tbh.

missingingredient · 15/11/2022 10:08

So all you're looking for help on how to tell your mum? Before this can be answered you'll have to explain why you're nervous about telling her?

I think it's probably because you know you shouldn't have done it. Why didn't you speak to her before you got it? It's clear that this is the wrong time in your life to be getting a dog. You should have waited until you had settled in your new flat. Seems so unfair on the poor little puppy. What does your partner think of this?

Sorry OP, but a responsible adult would have thought this through first.

I agree with previous posters who have suggested that you can't have used a reputable breeder as they would have assessed your home before allowing the dog to come home with you.

@chali7 omg seee I'm not the only one 😂😂 it's such a risk. My mum knew I got the dog all along after all. I spoke to her and she is happy and thinks pup is adorable haha
