Ding, ding, round 3 of the highly entertaining collection of misspellings, misuse and general bastardisation of language. The floor is youre’s x

There was a mention of a ‘cricket empire’ on a thread yesterday..

Edited

Well, I suppose when you look at where cricket is played and the history of its introduction to those countries....

Someone on an AIBU thread hates “being molly cuddled”.

Maybe she should tell Molly her cuddles don’t suit.

Cuddled eggs 🤗

'Expect to use a lot of creamed coconut, lime juice and Chalice pastes.' in a cookbook review. I hope the chalices weren't poisoned ones.

I'm being particularly dull today - in my defence I didn't sleep well last night. I can't work "Chalice pastes" out.

AlbieJiggered · 20/06/2026 18:52

I think from context it was chilli paste but I can't be sure.

Someone posted about poor spelling and grammar on a local SM site. Many responded including me.
I was called elitist, snobby etc. One poster said that her son's Head of English had poor grammar and spelling and I asked for examples. She said I was accusing her of lying. Shock
Another wrote a long reply to me asking many questions like why couldn't I be "hatin' on ... the recent stories such the sickening murder of baby Preston Davey, Kier Starmers contribution do this counties decline. ..."
I told him that Kier Starmers contribution do this counties decline. was illegible.

Have just seen someone refer to St Pancreas Station, London.

AlbieJiggered · 21/06/2026 20:17

Is it near Convent Garden?

grumpygrape · 21/06/2026 20:48

MagpiePi · 21/06/2026 19:36

Have just seen someone refer to St Pancreas Station, London.

The trouble with doing that sort of thing as a joke is that spell check then 'learns' the incorrect spelling.
This house always refers to St P as Saint Pancreas. There, I've gorn and dunnit now. Spell check will now always 'correct' it incorrectly 😭

The other trouble with these little in-jokes is that you find yourself using the joke pronunciation in the wild and people don't get the joke (Nigella Lawson and her microwaveeee springs to mind).

grumpygrape · 21/06/2026 21:25

Even worse when you get very old (like whot I is) and nobody else remembers the joke. ‘You had to be there’ gets a bit thin….

ErrolTheDragon · 21/06/2026 22:11

Ah, good old St Pancreas, patron saint of the digestive system.

HelenaWilson · 21/06/2026 23:42

Seen on a book review blog recently: point of you.

grumpygrape · 22/06/2026 09:51

Considering all those daft little videos going around entitled POV maybe that should be Point of Vous ?

PS, having had to edit this, is there a Law which states one will make more mistakes in a Pedants' Corner post than any other ? 😉

AlbieJiggered · 22/06/2026 10:05

I've just seen 'sort after'. What sought of MNer was she?

Tesco isn’t primarily a pharmacy and tend to only stick genetic type medications’

😳

AlbieJiggered · 22/06/2026 17:56

Where do they stick genetic type medications? Are they suppositories?

SchnizelVonKrumm · 22/06/2026 17:59

Saw a post on LinkedIn today about how getting a dog helped someone spend less time on their phone and more time focusing on "whats infant of me" Confused
