OK, I know it's a really easy mistake to make. It's just that every time I read this - more and more frequently - my mind conjures something like this. Enjoy!

Two recent threads had me inwardly contemplating donning my security breeches and joining a ficus group...

Pedant5corner · 12/06/2025 21:31

Spotted on recycling sites today:

Otterman Bed
Looking for a 4ft Otterman bed any condition as needed for project with or without matrest

I'm giving away this IKEA wooden cabinet as don't need it anymore. It is wobbly, that is why I used strap around while on move, so it won't be more damaged. One of the wooden bard between is cracked as seen at the photos.
It's better to transport it as it is so it won't get more damaged.

When it is placed next to the wall or preferably in the corner than it is nice peace of cabinet.

(it's an MDF 'chester')

Brilliant!

They might not have English as their 1st language or whatever, and I'm glad that they recycle, but if nothing else they made me smile.

I want a peace of cabinet, a wooden bard, and I'm not sure I'd be willing to give away an otterman bed.

DCat has matrest but it's usually on something like a chair or my bag.

GarlicStyle · 13/06/2025 05:24

I had to put the wooden bard on a wardrobe, as he refused to go anywhere near Chester Draws.

Spotted on a thread today - 'all knowing ogre'

Over to you @GarlicStyle

GarlicStyle · 14/06/2025 03:44

Love the idea of an all knowing ogre, @HopeSpringsInfernal - but what was it supposed to mean?

Does anyone have a fall time job?

KhaleesiLikeSundayMorning · 14/06/2025 11:03

Someone on MN said they live in a terrorist house (as opposed to detached). To be fair, it was probably autocorrect.

RobinHeartella · 15/06/2025 11:22

On the (very worthwhile) thread about carbon monoxide poisoning, someone mentioned gas coming off a barbecue that's "distinguished".

GarlicStyle · 15/06/2025 12:14

😂😂 @RobinHeartella

Just noticed he's flipping burgers with an orchestra conductor's baton! So distinguished.

In other news, today I learned that they do have the same root, both from the Latin "put out" (as in set apart vs put the fire out)

Cattery · 16/06/2025 10:07

I do wish people would stop undermiming me

Sounds like someone we should all be conscience of.

Gonksmum · 16/06/2025 17:51

Saw a couple of beauts recently - a post somewhere extolling the virtues of an M & S " Mellton Mulberry" pork pie and a question on Reddit asking " What's it feel like when you're under Anastasia?"

GarlicStyle · 16/06/2025 17:57

OMG, @Gonksmum 🤣🤣🤣

GarlicStyle · 16/06/2025 17:59

I had to search that Reddit post 🤣 First reply: "I barely know Anastasia, but I imagine my wife would not be thrilled."

On Mumsnet quite a few people eat in their dinning room, must be pretty noisy at mealtimes.

Also on Mumsnet, the wayward apostrophe strikes again, I can't quite work out how this has come about, but I've seen "he's" used to mean "his" e.g. "he's sitting on he's sofa" or more likely, "he's sat on he's sofa".

Interestingly, I asked my 10 year old granddaughter about the general rules of where to use the apostrophe and the meanings and spellings of "there", "they're" and "their" and she knew all of it. So as it's clearly taught at primary school do people deliberately forget what they once knew I wonder?

I think I know how the "he's" comes about on mumsnet. It's the other way first. Some poor mumsnetter writes eg "my husband says his working late" and then grammar police shout at her "you mean HE'S" and after that she corrects herself to avoid getting corrected "so I'm having to make his dinner - delete - make he's dinner..."

I saw that too!

Today apparently Isreal have ‘full ariel control’ of Iran. Also JK Rowling doesn’t dress to titalat, unlike other celebrities.

Edited to add that: “If a state like Iran were allowed to have nuclear weapons it would be hand over for everyone on the planet.”

Sorry all political, what can you do it’s no longer the age of aquariums!
