OK, I know it's a really easy mistake to make. It's just that every time I read this - more and more frequently - my mind conjures something like this. Enjoy!

I seen people like you befor.

(That was so hard to type! Autocorrect hated me! Don't understand how people don't get more right when Autocorrect keeps changing it?)

your so distruptive and im discusted at ur comments

Arlingtonchase · 30/05/2025 11:16

I'm not clever enough to get AI to do it, but I always get an interesting mental image when someone talks about "the items (for example) marked with an Asterix".

It means blown up by your own explosive device.

A petard is a historical term for a small bomb used to breach walls or gates, or a firecracker.

In the expression, it refers to the former. The devices had very short fuses and the chances of any soldier fixing one to its target getting blown up in the ensuing explosion were fairly high.

An historical term, shurely?

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 30/05/2025 11:42

My SIL has used “it’s a viscous circle” before now, but my favourite FB post of hers was “So hormonal so stay out of my way today. I’m like a bear with a sore arse!”

ThunderThighs123 · 30/05/2025 11:21

Not unless you pronounce it "istorical".

We don't say or write 'an hillock' or 'an holiday'.

GarlicStyle · 30/05/2025 12:18

Make a cake, @Arlingtonchase.

(Dammit, I forgot to mark the eggs with ... well, you know)

It was what I was always taught.

Cher, perhaps your frozen face can't deal?! 🤣🤣🤣

That's how I was always taught to pronounce it.

Next, you'll be telling me that you've never heard of 'whom' or the Oxford comma!

@GarlicStyle what is "boarder control"? why do so many people get this word wrong? the word is "border"!!!! is it because they talk slang landuage?

I’m assuming they’re attempting to control the chap who lodges with them?

Cattery · 30/05/2025 15:49

And to add; do you still think this thread will meet the freshold for inclusion in classics?

GarlicStyle · 30/05/2025 17:57

So glad PSG won the Champions League last night. I was routing for them ⚽️

Funnywonder · 02/06/2025 12:17

It’s great (grate?!) to be able to come back here to air my petty SPAG grievances.

Today’s beaut is ‘I just diffused the situation…’ Trying to imagine how that would work😆

"I diffused the situation" gets my brain confused, switching rapidly between an image of the poster holding up a massive semi-opaque screen, and them putting everyone through a blender to turn "the situation" into a fine mist spray!

Does anyone else get fed up with the opinions of others shuffed down their throats?

GarlicStyle · 03/06/2025 13:34

Ha, I can see the point of shuffed! Shoved and stuffed at the same time 😂

Yesterday a post about a relative medalling in their OP’s home. No mention of a podium or national anthem though.
