If you look at the etymology, it seems likely the ‘kerb’ spelling in U.K. English may have been us not spelling ‘curb’ properly several hundred years ago. ‘Americanisms’ aren’t always wrong!

I've just seen a reference to a collateral surgeon. I had to look him up to find out his specialism - sadly, not debt securities or unimportant side issues; he operates on bowels and bums. It was probably an autocorrect, but it suggested a high-octane hospital drama where the dying patient on the operating table confounds the medical team: "He's got dreadful toenails, his ears aren't level, and he's about to lose his house and car to a loan shark!" "Call the collateral surgeon!"
