misspinkcat · 07/01/2007 21:59

Dont tell people what to do with them.

swifterella · 07/01/2007 21:59

think that sounds great

swifterella · 07/01/2007 22:00

my DS is 18 mnths not 8 sorry

misspinkcat · 07/01/2007 22:00

We were once invited to a "We think you need to have a day off so sorry no kids"

day off?
Fuck off more like.

We didnt like them THAT much. They did have a photo of their dog in a top hat on the front of the invitaiton though so they were bona fide NOBS.

Spidermama · 07/01/2007 22:01

With.

Before I had kids, however, WITHOUT!

It's a different vibe altogether. Both are lovely in their own way. I think it has to be up to the couple to choose how to celebrate their union.

There have been some heated threads on this subject with polarised views.

So I'll get me popcorn.

swifterella · 07/01/2007 22:01

REIDnotREEDorREAD · 07/01/2007 22:02

With. Was told couldn't take my 4 week old ds to a wedding of 2 friends. Well at that stage if he couldn't go, I couldn't. Was quite as these were mutual friends and they were aware that he was breastfed at couldn't be left.

WideWebWitch · 07/01/2007 22:04

CQ, will find you an old thread - you might want to read it, because some of your guests may feel the same as some posters on it.hang on

LadyMacbethlehem · 07/01/2007 22:05

Off to one later this month- without the kids. Was a bit when I got the invitation but then remembered that back in the day I didn't want kids at mine either. Really looking forward to it now because:

I get a break.

I get a break with DH.

I get to go on a six-hour round trip of civilised uninterupted conversation with DH. How exciting, perhaps we could even stop off at a Little Chef

I can get pissed and roll in to bed when I choose.

I get to roll out of bed when I choose.

I can have a sane conversation with other temporary child-free friends just like in the good old days.

Of course, I will miss them like crazy and will be gagging to see them...

CQ the wording on the invitation we got says: "Regretably we are unable to invite children due to constraints on numbers at the venue. We hope this does not cause too much inconvenience and will enable parents to have a well earned break"

misspinkcat · 07/01/2007 22:05

A DOG in a top hat?
yes no kids?
er......priorities.

Bet they cringe at it now.

pooka · 07/01/2007 22:05

Would add that would have left dd (2.5) with my mother like a shot. So perhaps agree with the dispensation for feeding / babes in arms.

WideWebWitch · 07/01/2007 22:05

here you go! And there's a link there to another wedding one

misspinkcat · 07/01/2007 22:06

Its the "break" bit I hate.

Wheelybug · 07/01/2007 22:06

I think its fine but however you do it you'll probably offend someone.

I think it depends on how many people have children, how close they are, whether you actually want them there or not....

We've been invited to 4 or 5 weddings since dd has been born (2 yrs) and if the invite says just dh and I we assume dd isn't invited and we 'grab a granny'. DD has only been invited to 1 wedding.

We didn't have children at our wedding but it was aeons ago and there were only 3 people affected and no one particularly close. No one seemed to have aproblem with it. Would be far more difficult now.

caffeinequeen · 07/01/2007 22:07

Thanks WWW - will have a look now.

paulaplumpbottom · 07/01/2007 22:09

I think its good for children to experience life's rights of passage.

brimfull · 07/01/2007 22:10
