If wedding invitations only came my way once every two years or so then I wouldprobably feel the same cat64.

However for us recently there has seemed to be a spate of weddings etc, occuring all through the summer.

As we work at weekends, leaving the children behind after a full day at work to go off to yet another wedding is just not an option for us.

aDad · 10/01/2007 10:24

With.

either way, like being given the option of bringing them.

Tortington · 10/01/2007 10:26

and without everyone elses.

Without. But have recently been invited to a close friend's wedding which is supposed to be child free but we will have a bf 4 month old at the time so we've obtained special permission to bring her. Having the baby makes the night time thing a bit of a pain with the noise/smoke so we'll probably have to leave early

LunarSea · 10/01/2007 11:24

We've been invited, along with ds, to a friends wedding later this year. However by the time of the wedding we'll also have dd/ds2 who'll be about 7 weeks old, and there's no mention on the invite (possibly because the freind in question doesn't know). Do we accept including baby, ask them if they mind, or work on the principle that for a few hours baby can probably stay with grandma?

southeastastra · 10/01/2007 11:56

with! for a friend maybe it'd be different but for a family wedding def with children. i have just been told my cousin is getting married but they don't want children. so stuff them i'm not going.

paddyclamp · 10/01/2007 22:02

WITHOUT! Ours are both under the age of 4 and we wouldn't get a minutes peace if we took them. We'd spend all our time chasing after them, unless we stayed in the place the reception was we'd have to leave early, someone would have to drive... Maybe if they were older i'd feel differently but even though i love them both to bits it's nice to have some time to ourselves!

I'd just say in the invite that due to numbers you are unable to invite children

Pinkchampagne · 10/01/2007 22:17

Without!
I haven't been to a wedding for a while, but taking them to a friends DS's christening was a horrifying experience! DS2 was not at all impressed with the lengthy service & was a nightmare throughout!

missymoosal · 10/01/2007 22:49

We banned all kids from our wedding.
Kids get bored, howl at the wrong moments in church, make a nuisance of themselves in the evening, parents can't relax as they have to keep an eye on the little 'darlings'
We initally got some stick and some family didn't come -hurrah-
For those that did and it was a big wedding the general consensus was everyone had a b**y good time.
We are entitled to a life once we have kids and I'm speaking as a mother of 3.
It's great to let yourhair down once in a while and just be a couple you might even remember why you are with them in the first place. A night in a hotel after a lovely wedding what bliss and gets you in the mood no keeping the noise down!!!!
Try and shoot me down if you dare but on this I'm bullet proof

MadamePlatypus · 10/01/2007 23:02

I don't really think that weddings are about children and procreation - they are about two people making a commitment to one another in whatever manner they like. We had loads of children at our wedding, including our own toddler. DS has been to one wedding reception as a baby which was a lovely laid back party. However, I would only be offended if somebody excluded him from a wedding if it was a very close friend or relative who knew that by excluding him they were excluding me and DH.

mateychops · 10/01/2007 23:06

Without. Can we not enjoy a good day/night out on our own?

Peridot30 · 10/01/2007 23:09

WE went to 2 weddings last year 1 a close friend without the kids which was bliss. A grown up day out, uninterrupted dinner and a relaxing day. The next wedding was BIL and kids were flower girl and page boy. We all had a great day kids had a ball and then a friend collected them at 8ish and took them to their grandmas and hubbie and i had a night to ourselves and stayed over.

However dh got locked out room and ended up sleeping in the same bed as the bride and groom(his brother) .....but thats another story!! So much for the night of passion.
