Actually, has bee a bit of an annus horribilis for us. My auntie died in May (the week before dd's wedding), then my cousin's wife just last month (she was only diagnosed with cancer in July) and now my nanna. She's 88 and it's just old age for her but it's still hard.

She was a really strong character my nanna, can make me giggle at some of the things she's said and done over the years, lol. She had a lot of heartache in her life too though. Her brother was killed on a bike when he was 14, then she lost her first babies, premature twin girls, Elizabeth and Mary. One lived a week and one a fortnight. Then my brother, her grandson, was kille on a bike when he was 10, and not long after that my grandad died too. She's been a widow for nearly 30 years. She was heavily involved in the community during the miners' strike in 1984/85, helping out with food for the families etc. She is well respected in our town and she will be missed.

She loved to come to dancing competitions with us when my girls danced, ad she used to jump on the bus on a Friday night to come and visit us 3 hours away when the girls were small. Ds1, Ross, is named after her (her maiden name). When he was born, my mum phoned to tell her he was named after her, and she said 'What, Elsie??'

A real character my nanna.

Hope you didn't mind my ramblings on here - I know it's a nappy thread, but I feel like I'm with friends here xx

mumface · 08/12/2009 23:38

I've got the blue/grey stripey 3-12mth Snugglepants for Connor, but now I've bought them they've disappered off site so I can't gaze at them til they arrive!

Octohohohoho · 08/12/2009 23:39

Thanks daisy!! Sorted now

Scotia · 08/12/2009 23:40

Octo, the snugglepants are gorgeous btw. I love them all, and nice boy ones for a change too!

Tree, she's in a nursing home a couple of miles away. She is being well looked after, and my mum is there with her now. I last saw her on Friday, and I'm glad I did. She just looked so peaceful and she's not in any discomfort even now. Just sleeping away.

mumface · 08/12/2009 23:41

Ah Scotia she sound lovely! A right character. A lot of heartache for her, she has a few to see again when she does pass over x

Scotia · 08/12/2009 23:42

It's quite a comforting thought mumface x

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 08/12/2009 23:43

Aw Scotia, sounds like a tough year, but that your nana was a real character . Hang onto those happy memories lovely; I'm sure it's what she would want. (thinks we need an Awwww type emoticon).

mumface, I'm sure Octo will send you a pic

OCto, I NEEED those Gap stripey pants.

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 08/12/2009 23:46

Would it be wrong to buy them just so no-one else can have them?????

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 08/12/2009 23:46

Oh Scotia. She sounds a star turn. I hope we make nanna's like that!! Women with history, and with lots of stories and tales, photos and people who remember us. Plus big boxes with old nappies in, stashed under the bed in our nursing home.

I'm glad you have a happy image of a resting nanna. Going soon to join her children and family after a long productive and active life. God's speed to her. x

Octohohohoho · 08/12/2009 23:46

As there is only one pair I take them off so no-one else buys them - for some reason it lets people buy stuff when out of stock argghh - will post them on my profile on FB!

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 08/12/2009 23:49

Very mumface!!

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 08/12/2009 23:52

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 09/12/2009 00:30

Scotia I am so sorry . Hope you get some sleep. Your Nanna sounds lovely and its such a shame! I know I will be in the same situation very soon i'm afraid . Thinking of you at this sad time.

Octo - how much will your sandwich bags be? will they be in the same sort of prints as the wetbags? Do they just go in the washing machine?

Babybots · 09/12/2009 07:33

Scotia- Sorry i wasnt around to help with hand holding last night. Your Nanna sounds like a lovely lady, leaving you all with great memories of her. Take comfort in that and each other. (hugs) I hope things are still peaceful and you managed to get some sleep.

Octo - Love the longies! Seriously thinking about it for Ds...... hmmmmm

Oh and i've seen the sandwich bags great for school!

Daisy - Thank you, Sites going well. Yes Motherease prices are getting a bit steep arnt they - i think they will outprice them selfs if they carry on! Especially when there are others that work just as well at a fraction of the price!

Gosh tree i hope that washers sorted soon

4 - I hope your evening improved.

Right all i have Ittis in the machine and a toddlers that i have to get to today - for my sanity!

Catch up again later.

NappyShedSal · 09/12/2009 07:59
