quick q for anyone around (yall will be annoyed with me b4 long! )

Anyone think these fabrics would do cute dresses, or more for bedding? I think they'd be lovely, but do think curtains at the same time - tho maybe just me! lol

Very cute fabrics Rachel, prefer the blue to pink, looks like a bargain though!

Daisy, I'm just outside Edinburgh, near Ikea

for you missing home though. I lived in the Borders for 27 years and always yearned to come back home. Where did you live? My SIL lives in Kelty in Fife, but we don't see much of her really.

Rachel, I like those patterns, but you could combine them with plain fabric so they are not too overpowering, maybe a big pocket on the front would be nice.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 01/01/2010 20:34

Yes, I like the blue best too, mumface - and price is good! Seems they're a bit narrow for ordinary fabric (so not sure if someone cut strips off or what) but I think they'll be wide enough for small dresses, so I'm inclined to snap them up. A lot cheaper than any other Hello Kitty fabrics on ebay - so maybe I'll buy them. Abigail's begging for a dress from the fabric already LOL - I'm sure she'd want the pink tho, as she's a very girly girl! But she does have more than enough clothes - don't think she can ever wear them all!

so I think I'll just buy them!

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 01/01/2010 20:48

I like blue too .

thebluefoxategreensocks · 01/01/2010 20:48

oh, and I like your idea of a solid colour pocket, scotia! Thanks!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 01/01/2010 20:57

ugh, there was only 1 listing left of the pink and there were 2 when I saw it this morining - oh well! I got all 3 of the blue anyway and the 1 pink ... tho I'll have to see if Abigail lets me out of making her a dress, since I'll have fairly limited supply of this!

So instead I bought the remaining metre of this:
cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120510387605 which I love! I think it's prob tree's style too, am I right?

I was tempted by this cgi.ebay.co.uk/Strawberries-1-100-cotton-fabric-98cm-x-80cm_W0QQitemZ120511106889QQihZ002QQcategoryZ 71206QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m444QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252B LM%252BLA%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63 but resisted!

So now I must go do the dishes & tidying up - I must stop all this fabric shopping! Having just sold my last Bedbug [cries] I bet that money will burn a whole in my Paypal till I spend it on more fabrics too! I did cut out 3 dresses this morning (purple/green tie-dye fabric), so maybe I'll try and start sewing them later - tho unlikely I'll find the time, as late as it is now! Tho I did make one dress last night - a one-off size 1 dress from some cute yellow froggy print fabric (american fabric from Dan River). So I am working towards getting organised!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 01/01/2010 21:29

rachel, a dress for DD in the jungle fabric will be lovely.

CAt me your address, or find me on facebook

thebluefoxategreensocks · 01/01/2010 21:31

Thanks myjob (and your DH too, of course!)

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 01/01/2010 21:35

I do like that yes I am a flowery creature.

I like spots too. dd2 has a boden hotchpotch dress from ebay, it has a real vintage muted green long sleeve top, and dark pink with choc and green spots skirt bit. And one of those little flowers sewn at the neck, like on a grannys vest. It's lovely on her. The top is almost like a long sleeve top so it's really simple and not fussy.

Sounds awful doesn't it?

thebluefoxategreensocks · 01/01/2010 21:38

daisy: I think my CAT subscription has recently run out & I've not yet borrowed dh's credit card to renew it! So you can either give me a hint as to who you are (I'm friends of various ppl on the thread here, so I might find you there, tho not sure I'd know it was you! lol) Or you can find me there - I'm a facebook friend of octo, 4, mumface swamp etc - I'm Rachel in real life too and there will be a pic of me & Clement in a floral ring sling at the beach! .... or perhaps easier, would be to just email me at rachelinscotland @ gmail.com (without spaces) and then I can email you my address!

Thanks! x

NappyShedSal · 01/01/2010 22:24

Rachel - I love that blue roses material - my DD had a straight shift summer dress in that fabric (we must have such similar tastes!!) But how long are these dresses taking you to make? You've just spent £5.25 on that fabric. You still need to pay for thread, interfacing?, and some poppers or buttons for the shoulders. If you sell at £10 you will be making just over £4.00 per dress, so unless each dress only takes 45 minutes to make you'll be making less than minimum wage. I'm really not trying to be negative, or trying to put the price up for people who've said they'd like a dress, but I really think you should charge more. With the scraps of material left over you could make them into matching hair scrunchies and charge for them as well. Or include a matching hair scrunchie with each dress, but put the price up to reflect it. Or those matching hairbands which are a triangle of material on top of the head and elasticated at the back of the neck?

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 01/01/2010 22:41

Or a little bag on a string, a simple purse type thing. I think that they can be made by using an envelope as a pattern.

If you haev very tiny scraps you could cover hair clips too, and buttons - that you could sew onto hair elastics. Cute!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 01/01/2010 23:16

The town that's famous for its linoleum Scotia, so not far from Kelty.

Rach, have sent you a friend request

I'm off to bed; having drunk copious amounts of wine but feeling no real ill effects

DS1 and I are off shopping tomorrow for trainers and school PE kit but are then going to see Where the WIld things are and then going for sushi for tea (his choice)! I'm really looking forward to it, as our time together is usually tempered with noisy demanding toddlers!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 01/01/2010 23:33

nappyshed thanks very much for messsage/helpful tips! A dress takes me 1 hour (give or take 5-10 min) from start to finish (cutting out to putting the buttons on), though can drag out if I have nappies to change inbetween or baby to feed, etc!

I was of course asking for ideas on pricing, (so thanks for commenting!) as I don't know what people would consider to be too much for a simple dress like that. I was originally thinking £10 when I was hoping to use various bargain finds of fabrics, costing £1-2 per dress. But once I see all the lovely fabrics out there, I want to buy them all! I've been wondering, would it be acceptable to base the pricing on the type/cost of fabric one used? Or would that confuse things, and I should stick to one price? If I varied it, I was thinking £10 for just a basic simple dress out of random fabrics (good quality of course, but perhaps not "designer" sort of ones), and then ones out of more choice fabric, costing £12-15. Just by way of information, the roses fabric I got along with the hello kitty pieces, so I've paid a total of £20.15 for all of it (incl post), and that should make at least 5 dresses (assuming I've correctly worked out that they're all wide enough). So not as bad as it seems when bought with other fabrics. But still not exactly penny fabric!

Now, I really must make myself shut up, or I'll get run off this thread for being totally off topic!

mumSmileyface · 02/01/2010 09:14

Dont'cha just hate it when you get a 'sorry, you were out' card when you were in all morning! Got to wait til Tuesday for my Snugglepants and sandwich bag now

Dropped Connors dream feed last night and went to bed early incase there was trouble, and he slept from 7.15pm till 8.20am without a peep

Have just put my ss Yoyoo on Lewis and it is a great fit. He doesn't fit the Coolababy anymore but these are a nice fit around his chunky legs.

at the new fluff myjob, and at fish&chips 4!

H woke up with nappy burn, and the nappies in the bucket had the amonia smell Have rinsed them all twice, and they are on a wash with no powder now. Should I do a wash with powder and a rinse? or just keep washin on empty? Whatchathink? I might strip the whole lot, the house has had a funny back round smell since I have had them on the radiators all Christmas. Gawd the heating has been on loads

Does anyone wet pail? Sometimes nappies are waiting 2-3 nights for a wash, maybe they would be better in a water solution ? Whatchathink?

Sorry to pick brains and run

Rachel - totally agree in the whole charity shop thing. Upcycling, it's the new recyclin!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 02/01/2010 23:42

what a very quiet day on here today! Maybe everyone was out in the snow - we've got like 10 inches here - ugh!

tree: I tried wet pailing for the first few days of cloth nappies back when Abigail was tiny (4 years ago!) and it was awful - sooooooo messy! LOL I went over to dry pail and have never looked back. But I do wash every day since I have 2 in nappies, so they're never sitting long. Though I do occasionally go almost 2 days.
