no, i am being serious in asking this question - maybe mn isn';t as arsey as it used to be - i dunno

i certainly try not to go in maccy D's becuase its killing the planet and taking over the world.

howver it does the best coffee imo - kenco - so not baby killer.

well i do like a bigmac from time to time, but it always makes you feel ill later in the day.

i don't know much about the ethic other than i heard they used to give money to the ira, but i don't know if thats true.

I don't ever go, just because it's shit and it doesn't appear on my mental radar as a place where they have food.

I get a vege something from there about twice a year as an evil treat. At least they don't use styrofoam anymore. But DS has had lectures on why we don't go there, and the importance of knowing that meat comes from well-treated animals... And he's certainly not getting any of their fries until his kidneys are significantly larger - what are they, 50% salt?

Very occasionally a MacDonalds veggie melt meal with a diet coke hits the spot that nothing else would reach. Yes, it's crap, yes, they are commercialism at it's worst and yes, they are about as green as the woman who drives her 6L 4x4 to my son's school.

However, if I thought that way about everything all of the time, I'd never leave the house and never buy anything. So, the odd MacDonalds it is.

We don't go into it because I would rather my children didn't eat their high fat high salt junk food. I would like to think I was also taking a stand against globalisation but unfortunately I like Starbucks very berry scones and frapuccinos too much to claim that accolade .

I have never taken the DCs to McDonalds. They have been once or twice though. I'm not sure that my main objection to McDonalds is based on ecological grounds - although clearly they are questionable. My main objections are that the food is foul and the eating environment entirely disgusting.

And the coffee is gross - Custy are you on drugs?

DS1 had a happy meal today. We probably go once every couple of months. I do like their cappucino's so probably go through the drive thru for one of those every week

i would like to think i am taking an ethical/healthy eating stance as those are my reasons for not going there more often

but i suppose if i was that perfect we would never go there at all.

I have more against the quality of what they serve than the ethics of the corporation behind it.
Like someone else said, McD's struggle to get onto my mental radar as an establishment where you can obtain anything edible.
They are run as local franchises, so it's not like the profits all go off to foreign shores, and they are great places for teenagers to gain work experience.

My ds has a Happy Meal once every holiday I reckon - and I quite like a happy meal myself.

Yes I do have ethical objections but I have that about any chain in the high street and btw there is significantly less calories in some of Macs stuff than there is in a poncey frappe latte whatnot - and its half the price. And fwiw probably the same salt and fat etc as a posh supermarket readymeal.

And now I sound like a fan which I am not at all but lots of this is hypocrisy and snobbery pure and simple...

I'm generally unhappy with McD's, but I do get a craving for one of their burgers from time to time.

We (well dh actually) buy fairtrade produce whenever possible, try and buy fruit/veg that hasn't flown half way across the world, avoid Israeli produce, etc. etc.

But we still do occasionally sneak in and have a burger together.
Sans enfants because they refuse! PMSL!

I'm dying for Macdonald's but DD is at the age where she stands in front of me like a starving baby bird with her begging bowl out, and while I have no objections in principle, I think I'd like to wait until I count her age in years rather than months before I give in.

I would rather have a MCD's meal than some dodgy pub grub that some pub landlords have had the gall to serve up... it has its place. Surely, such a high profile company would be incentivised to at least make sure basic food hygiene standards and nutritional basics would be met ...
