Ear piercing of babies, what do you think?

Sometimes i think i live in a romany gypsy camp the number of babies i see with pierced ears and jewellery dangling from their little wrists. Having never adopted the courage to get my own ears pierced, i cant imagine piercing a little baby's ears. Its brutal and so common! What gives with this practice? In my opinion, its mutilation. The dangling bracelets are a health hazard to little ones, and i fear they could break their arms if they got them tangled in their sweaters.

What gives with this?

Aimsmum ,

Slightly off topic

Pikey???

nutcracker · 01/04/2005 22:37

It's all very well to say that you think it is wrong or that you don't like it etc , but to then say that it makes the parents ignorant, common and have no common sense is just a bloody cheek.

colleague at work was recently going to have her nails done - pierced. And then dropped into conversation that her 9 month old DD was going along too - but only for a manicure and 'jewels'.

I don't think it will be long before the ears are pierced. It seems a bit like treating them as a doll to me.

and im having good fun..me and my chav mates

mamadadawahwah · 01/04/2005 22:39

Aimsmum, quite common practice. Then they all retire to a pub full of booze and cigarette smoke where baby can breathe it all in.

how do you work out how much % chav you are. was this another thread??

mmmmchocolate · 01/04/2005 22:40

i think it should be the childs choice, babies are too young to have holes pushed in there ears but as its up to the parents really each to there own.

Nemo1977 · 01/04/2005 22:41

pmsl evesmama

Mud · 01/04/2005 22:41

but the reason behind not liking it is because it makes the child look common and so there is a throwback on the parents surely

Evesmama · 01/04/2005 22:41

saw a little girl..about 6-7 today in clinks having her feed measured in full makeup...clown like...just hope it was her experimenting and not mums idea..she couldnt have been that bad if she was having her feed properly measured!

nutcracker · 01/04/2005 22:41

YOU think it is common, that doesn't mean it is.

Mud · 01/04/2005 22:42

what's a feed and why would you measure it?

mamadadawahwah · 01/04/2005 22:42

Oh, by the way, i didnt actually say "makes the parents bad", what i said was "what kind of parents have they got". The embellishment of my words came from others. But what the heck.

Aimsmum, where are you? As a lapsed catholic do not like the First Holy Communion look - little brides of Christ but that is well over the top. I was 18% chav which is not bad for an Essex Lass btw.

We all make judgements about people and on first sight of a baby with piercings, jewellery, football outfits, etc, I have no option but to think "ignorant". Not stupid, just ignorant. Big difference.

my arguement is the pain. it bloody hurt me at 16. I hated ds having his jabs as a baby but there is good reason for that but to watch them have a hole put through their ears without it being their choice! could never do that.

nutcracker · 01/04/2005 22:44

Nope am not ignorant either, get your facts right before you go accusing.

Pinotmum · 01/04/2005 22:45

Mud, lol

Evesmama · 01/04/2005 22:45

having her feed maesured is a 'new' chav thing..okay, okay..her feet..T T T measured

Mud · 01/04/2005 22:45

what do you think of men who have LOVE and HATE tattoed on their knuckles?? that reminds me, saw a tramp at the weekend who had Fuck U tattoed on one hand - oh yes that's nice

NannyJo · 01/04/2005 22:46
