Ear piercing of babies, what do you think?

Sometimes i think i live in a romany gypsy camp the number of babies i see with pierced ears and jewellery dangling from their little wrists. Having never adopted the courage to get my own ears pierced, i cant imagine piercing a little baby's ears. Its brutal and so common! What gives with this practice? In my opinion, its mutilation. The dangling bracelets are a health hazard to little ones, and i fear they could break their arms if they got them tangled in their sweaters.

What gives with this?

Nannyjo click on my link posted at 10:08 (this thread) to find out how much of a chav you are. I only made 13% which seems to be the lowest (admitted) so far!

Evesmama · 01/04/2005 22:46

oh, god.i . can. not. spell. tonight...!!

Toothache · 01/04/2005 22:46

Och now Mamadadawahwah - Lets not make this a nasty one.

This is just peoples opinions right???

And this is a discussion where people voice their opinions, right???

Snafu - On;y ever been to Eye-beef-er once... and I was only 2!! ....AND I didn't have my ears pierced!!... Came home with a lovely tan though.

I don't have any opinions on whether someone who gets their childs ears pierced before they are old enough to choose too, are bad parents. Just that to me it looks tacky and horrible. Babies aren't vain, they don't care whether drop earrings look better with your hair up, or gold hoops look nice with that little black dress.... Why try to make them grow up too quickly??? Why impose OUR vanity onto them???

Again, who said anything about you nutcracker. I am sorry to deprive you of your victimhood, but my opinion is parents who do this are ignorant. Whether that is intrinsically true or not is something i can never prove. We are talking about opinions here! remember? Why are you taking this personally? Who is talking about you?

why is a football outfit ignorant?? not my first choice of clothes either but i think ignorant is a bit strong?

KathH · 01/04/2005 22:47

Definately a no. I reluctantly let dd2 get them pierced when she was 8 after she'd been going on for about a year and then she fainted in the shop when she had them done and then got an infection. I'm dead common on my own behalf tho - ears pierced 3 times and a tattoo

JoolsToo · 01/04/2005 22:47

LOVE - HATE is a prison thing isn't it?

misdee · 01/04/2005 22:47

i dont agree with piercing of babys ears. i personally feel that its a decision my child can make later on.

afterall i've just removed some of my piercings as tey annoyed me.

Evesmama · 01/04/2005 22:47

i've got cut here tatooed across my throat and keep off the grass above my minny moose

expatinscotland · 01/04/2005 22:48

Nah. Couldn't do it. I felt bad enough this evening when she stood up in her cot after we put her down for bed and she got her arm caught between the cot and the wall .

Pinotmum · 01/04/2005 22:48

Aimsmum, omg it could have been my neice pmsl. Not really but dh is from Glasgow and his family are a bit like that. His neice did irish dancing with all sorts of wigs and hair extensions in her hair, had her belly button pierced at 12 yo with mothers approval, nose stud at 14 again with mother's approval, don't know about ears but probably done quite young. They ask when dd will get hers done but I change the subject

nutcracker · 01/04/2005 22:49

I am not making it about me mamadada, but if anyone is ignorant on here it is you.

mamadadawahwah · 01/04/2005 22:50

Now that is an opinion nutcracker . I like it. I dont agree with it, but i like it. Keep up the god work!

We are an opinionated lot, but let us accept that we are all entitled to our opinion.

I was labelled posh and stuck up by one of the office juniors in a conversation the other day. I let it pass and half an hour later, I said but you would say that, you are common

She took massive offence, until I pointed out that she labelled me first and that we are all entitled to our opinion in a democracy, but that it's human nature to attach labels, whether they are accurate or not.

Mud · 01/04/2005 22:51

this is actually the first thread EVER where I've found myself agreeing with mamadadawahwah

BTW I did that test and appear to be 5% Chav

pixel · 01/04/2005 22:52

I'm having trouble keeping up with this but it's very entertaining. I was supposed to be doing some ironing but I've just nipped out to the kitchen for a drink and a packet of crisps!

hunkermunker · 01/04/2005 22:52
