Anyone else find health visitors annoying?

My baby is 10 weeks old and is exclusively breastfed and I still have a HV visit every other week to check on baby because they are concerned about her weight. My baby has been steadily gaining weight since she turned 3 weeks but the issue they have is that she's growing on the 0.4th percentile.

Whilst this HV isn't actively encouraging me to top baby up with formula, I do feel paranoid that this is what she wants me to do because most of the midwives who used to visit prior to HV were all encouraging me to top baby up with formula, including the paediatrician who I got referred to when she was losing weight in the first three weeks.

I did listen and top baby up with formula but I gave up on it after just over a week as she was never finishing the bottle (I did a mix of pumped breastmilk and formula) and the rest would go to waste. Once baby was consistently gaining weight, the midwifery team discharged me and now it's the HV visiting regularly.

What I don't understand is why the HV keeps visiting, what can I do as it's just making me feel stressed!

That’s such great news. It sounds as though your LO has fully recovered from the TT snip and you’re both doing really well.

Its also reassuring to know that you can pop to the weigh in clinic when you want and you can now start planning all of the lovely things that you were thinking of doing with your LO Flowers

That's great! Your instinct that it's time to step back and accept she's growing beautifully at her own pace was bang on!

Dear Lord, I thought I was the only one!! Do they do this to mostly breastfeeding women??? I am trying to exclusively breastfeed and she is calling every week sometimes twice a week asking me to go to MILK clinic (I’m in UK) to get my baby weighed. I was unwell and stayed at hosp for 10 days so started late with breastfeeding. When baby was 2 weeks she said baby is supposed to be above birth weight, then after week 3 baby was above birth weight but she kept asking me to go and weight her BUT IT IS VERY STRESSFUL TO A MUM!!! She wasn’t even acknowledging that I have done well , no her focus was on the numbers not us as humans at all!! Then she kept forgetting things I have told her etc etc. will try and change to get a new one, they are really stressing breastfeeding mums instead of being encouraging and supportive

And when some poor baby ends up abused or malnourished everyone will be “Where was the Health Visitor?”

If you want to exclusively breastfeed, preservere with it. My baby is now 10 months old, exclusively breastfed (and eating solids ofc) and steadily growing on the 9th percentile

I opted out for both of mine. I'm sure there are good ones out there but mine were worse than useless.

Underfeeding can cause irreversible brain damage, which is also "VERY STRESSFUL". Perhaps you should learn to prioritise your baby.

What a horrible presumptuous thing to say to a new mother. Users like you should really be banned from Mumsnet.
