@Yellowbeansontoast I've been told that if you wean before six months, their stomachs aren't mature enough and can cause them gastrointestinal problems in the years to come. I'm holding out for another two months because of this

kkr168 · 02/05/2021 19:16

Is anyone else currently going through the hell that is teething? My lo is really struggling today, bright red checks, lots of tears, constantly chewing mine/his fingers then pushing them away before screaming again. We've tried Ashton & parsons teething gel which didn't seem to help at all, Calpol again didn't help, 4 hours later tried nurofen. The nurofen seemed to do the job, check redness gone & he finally went to sleep after crying for most of the day. We can see 2 little teeth just below the gum now, so hopefully they pop through soon.

On a positive note the dummy removal is still going well, although I think it would have helped our ears today if he still had one He is sleeping so much better at night, he used to toss & turn & root around for his dummy constantly, now he barely moves.

@kkr168 yes my baby is teething. She only wants to chew on her hands, not toys!

WHO have reviewed all the studies in this and found that there is no evidence this is true - efsa.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.2903/j.efsa.2019.5780

They do say babies don't need to be weaned until 6 months for nutritional benefit though, but there are no approved studies suggesting it will cause issues at 5 months. Its weaning before 17 weeks which causes problems.

My boy had pear today, he had it at 6.30 and I just could not get him to sleep tonight - normally I feed him and put him down in his next to me and he falls asleep himself, today after 1 and a half hours, I ended up picking him up and rocking him to sleep. Do you think the sugar in the pear kept him up? Do I need feed him things like that earlier in the day?

He did his first poo on the potty the other day (he is 5 months), I was so proud!

kkr168 · 04/05/2021 23:29

My lo has barely touched food the past couple of days, he's had 1 or 2tsp then refused to open his mouth, sure he'll be back to enjoying new foods soon.
He has finally been referred to a dietitian because he has milk allergies (possibly others), there is a long wait apparently so the Dr has sent me a brief description of the main allergen foods I must try before he turns 1, fish, eggs, wheat, sesame, celery, nuts, mustard, soya, lupin & sulphur dioxide! I'll have to Google the last 2, no idea what they are.

@Pinktruffle I'd stick to vegetables nearer bedtime, I also think 6.30 is pretty late for food, I'd bring that forward an hour or 2 if possible.

How are you getting on @Charl88 ? Hopefully things have improved for you x

On the last thread I mentioned I had started giving my lo bio Gaia drops (probiotics) because he only had a bowel movement every 4/5 days, I didn't want to give him the laxatives the gp prescribed. He's been on them 2 months & now goes daily, he also doesn't fart like a trooper anymore, I think it was @Asianchick6693 that asked me to keep them posted, hopefully the tag works!

Kj1010 · 05/05/2021 08:04

@pinktruffle first off wow at the potty toilet at such a young age never thought to put my lb on a potty yet and as in regards to the pear maybe it sat on his belly that's why he never settled I make sure my lo has ate by around 5ish to 5.30 just so I know it's gone down and not sitting there but then again I feed my lo through out day like he has a little breakfast around 10 10.30 then he will have a lunch in afternoon and then finally a dessert at the 5 to 5.30 mark but I have laid off giving him all 3 everyday just where he had that weird poo lol

Hi ladies, I'm feeling better I reached out to HV for some support and although she couldn't suggest much more than I've already tried, it was good to talk it through with someone. I started giving baby bits of puree veg and baby rice and although his sleep isn't much better, it's given me a new focus. Hes napping a bit better in the day so let's hope it all just falls into place soon. Thank you for being there and listening, it really helps.

Kj1010 · 05/05/2021 09:07

@Charl88 aww hun I'm glad you managed to speak about it and I'm sure things will fall into place pretty soon I had a mare of a day yesterday my lo would not stop moaning crying and only slept for like 5 10 minutes at a time done my nut in as just cudnt console him at all

Hi ladies. How have you transitioned babies to their own rooms? I'm trying to put her in there for naps but she only lasts ten mins!
Also can anyone recommend a baby monitor that doesn't connect to wifi? And finally a high chair!

Jwl45 · 05/05/2021 11:52

Good to hear you're feeling better @Charl88... keep talking 😊
@tigerbreadandtea I've not yet transitioned to her own room... im not ready. The room is not ready. (She has a huge room, it was decorated just before we moved in.... white wallpaper with big blue flowers 🤦🏼‍♀️ I just can't bring myself to start stripping it. And have no idea what decor etc I want. I need to shape it though as she is 6 months.
I bought a high chair a while back - suitable from birth as had 3 position recliner ... its been fantastic. I googled it and went for it... it was from a baby shop online. I'm looking for a simple monitor too.

Kj1010 · 05/05/2021 12:35

Havent moved baby into own room as we dont have a room for him we are only in a 2bed parlour type and I have 2 boys and a girl we partictioned the big room into 2 separate rooms as my 22 and 17 year old need there own space and my daughter is in other room and me and oh are in room down stairs with baby so we will be just putting a bed in there with us we are looking to see if we can get a 3 bed house with at least 1 big room so we can again put up a fake wall and turn into a 4 bed but very unlikely that will happen anytime soon tbh and we cant afford to buy anywhere yet either and I need to look into a high chair for lo as feeding him in his bouncer which ain't a problem but I think he wud like to be up the table with us

Does anyone's little one still only nap on them in the day ? 😩 if I put her down, she wakes up after five minutes and is miserable. Struggling to get much done around the house

Kj1010 · 05/05/2021 13:57

@viixie I wished I could cuddle my lo to sleep he wont sleep on me or anyone at all I cant even hold him and feed him he is so independent in that way and I so miss the cuddly days he only 21 weeks aswell but he is a cat napper really I'm lucky if I can get 1 room done while he asleep lol what is everyone lo like in carseat in car my lo does his absolute nut screams the car down that much he sobs for ages after so we are really struggling with this as we are pretty busy with away football games and judo training etc so dunno what I can do to keep him more happier while in car he has toys etc

@Kj1010 it's amazing how different our babies can be isn't it. Have you tried someone sitting next to him in the back so he knows there's someone there ?

Kj1010 · 05/05/2021 14:10

@viixie it is and yes we always have someone in the back but doesnt seem to help at all

Thanks for the feedback ladies, we moved the pears to lunchtime today. He is only having one meal a day as of yet, thinking of trying out two tomorrow. Going to puree some aubergine tonight.

@tigerbreadandtea My LO is still in our room. He self settles to sleep and sleeps most the night through so will likely be ready to move as soon as he gets to 5 months but I don't think I'm ready yet. His nursery is all set up. I should try him for daytime naps in there but much like @Viixie, my LO is a contact napper. He has started to squirm occasionally because he wants to be put down so he is starting to grow out of it, I'm enjoying the cuddles whilst I can still get them even if it means the housework doesnt get done!

Pinktruffle · 05/05/2021 15:49

@tigerbreadandtea we have a Stokke tripp trapp high chair. They are pretty costly but can hold up to adult weight and we wanted to be able to have family dinners around the dining table. They do hold their value really well to resell in the future but you can sometimes get them for a really good price second hand on ebay etc.

Asianchick6693 · 05/05/2021 15:55

@kkr168 hey thank you for the update. My little girl's bowel habits seems to have sorted itself out and she is going a lot more regularly (every 3-5 days).

Thought I'd update everyone after such a long time. I'm in a much better place with my mental health. I never took medication I think I just wanted my feelings, worries and concerns to be heard so I see a counsellor regularly. My little girl is 5 months now, she has started saying mum and dad! Still waiting for her to roll over, she's a bit lazy and hates tummy time but I'm loving every moment with her. She used to be a quiet baby and lately has been showing attitude and is a drama queen. She throws tantrums when she doesn't get her way, I want to see more of her personality come through. She's so ready for solids but I'm waiting until the recommended 6 months, I've let her suck on the odd pear slice and apple etc. I'm confident when time comes she will be a good eater fingers crossed!! Hope all you ladies are doing well 💖

Pinktruffle · 05/05/2021 16:05

That's lovely to hear @Asianchick6693, I'm glad you are feeling in a much better place and it's amazing what counselling can do!

Have you had any luck making mum friends? I tried Facebook like ao eone suggested but my local page was awful, just people complaining and being abusive to the council. I hate where I'm living at the moment which probably isn't helping things, we are looking to move to a much nice area in the next year or so and I'm praying that will be positive for me. On the plus side, I managed to engage a bit more with the mums at the baby group today and my LO seems to love it. He is just so interested in everything that's going on there, I can barely get hom to look at me!

Tairbear · 05/05/2021 16:06

Just found this thread. Place making as has DS 2 in December 2020.

Congratulations and I'm enjoying reading all of your tales

Asianchick6693 · 05/05/2021 16:16

@Pinktruffle thank you! Lovely to hear from you.

I've managed to make a few thanks to this app called Peanut. It's like tinder for mums LOL you swipe up and down based on whether or not you wish to connect with someone. It felt weird to begin with, I actually backed out twice but I'm so glad I joined. I've made friends with mums that live right next to me. I'm yet to meet them but we've bonded and our babies are similar age. It also has groups where you can post questions etc. Just overall really helpful. If the swiping feels weird to you, you can also just directly message someone. Might be worth trying x

Asianchick6693 · 05/05/2021 16:16

@Tairbear welcome to the thread :) hope you and LO are both doing well.

kkr168 · 05/05/2021 16:49

@Kj1010 we've been very lucky, our lo loves the car. He's either staring out of the window, looking at himself in the mirror or sleeping, he loves a snooze in the car.

@Asianchick6693 how amazing that your lo says mum & dad already, when was she born? Tommy's not long turned 5 months, he's just learnt how to shriek so we just have him shrieking all day. He's also started having tantrums but he just grunts, flaps his arms & goes red in the face, he just looks like he's having a poo 🤣

@viixie my lo is happy to snooze anywhere but he only sleeps for 30 minutes if he's in his cot or bouncer, if he's on me or in a moving car/pushchair he'll nap for a good hour or longer.
