Hi all Smile

Just wondering if any of your LOs are on the sippy cups yet? Mine likes water but refuses anything not in his bottle.

Also, I'm feeling kind of surplus to requirements as he doesn't seem to need anything from me that he can't get from his dad Sad (who is admittedly awesome, but still, y'know...! I grew him...grumble...carried him...grumble HmmGrin
Can anyone relate?

Jwl45 · 08/08/2021 10:26

Morning @smafa.
We are on the cups. We have two. One Tommy tippee one where it just freeflows through lid without much effort. She likes this one. We have another where you have to really suck hard at the spout. We don't get on very well with this. She would rather go without rather than work at it🤣. I will take the lid off then and pour it into her mouth slowly if I feel she really needs a drink I must say, she does like water but does not drink much of it along the despite it being offered.
Regarding surplus to Requirements, I can't say I've felt that. Although I do have a battle sometimes where she just won't give in to sleep and dadi comes in, she has a cuddle and is asleep before I can blink 😤

We went straight to open cups instead of sippy cups. My baby is 8 months old and happily uses an open cup now. Worth persevering through the initial messy stage because once they have the hang of it it’s much easier for them and better for their teeth and jaw development.

@OaxacaChihuahua yes. Agree. Despite spillages .... Elsi is getting the hang of th open cup.

Smafa · 08/08/2021 22:49

Ok, thank you 🙏🏼 😊

Charl88 · 09/08/2021 07:44

My little one is full of a cold 😢 not had anything yet bless him so was up every hour with him waking coughing or really congested. Anyone else had any colds yet? Any tips?
He has started taking a bit of water from a tommee tippee free-flow and I have a MAM beaker as well which he has to kind of bite. He doesn't drink much but its all practice. I also have one of those doidi cups which he quite likes but he takes bigger sips than he can handle and spits it out x

Kj1010 · 09/08/2021 12:29

My lo has a tommy tippee cup with a hard bit he sips from and he gets drenched from it lol @charl88 my hasn't had a cold yet dreading the day that happens as my lo at moment has gone back to being unsettles of a night crys in sleep so constantly I wake up we are still co sleeping will be getting him a bed wen back off holiday this month as the neck and shoulder aches I have is horrible due to me sleeping awkwardly where little man moves a lot also my boy is really starting to not want milk at all apart from morning one and bed one and and then he doesn't always drink the whole bottle maybe 5/6 oz getting him to drink milk through the day is getting hard he eats amazing though and eats everything not problems there I know he is getting the nutrition through food he like normal milk with cereal etc but isn't liking it on its own yet likes a tea also I really don't know what to do with the milk situation I know you are ment to feed them with milk till 12 months because of the nutrients in there but if he is eating very well which he is and getting them from food I'm debating wether to stop with the milk as much or not as you it's not cheap

OP posts:
Charl88 · 09/08/2021 14:58

@Kj1010 I think they start weaning themselves off milk a bit. My neice is about 10 months and she is only having one bottle at bedtime now as she doesn't want it in the day. My sister just makes sure she gives her Yoghurts and cheese. And she has the multivitamin drops your meant to give to them (I don't I have to admit).
Also my LO only has 5 oz at best he's never been a big drinker really but he was BF until 5.5months so I never knew how much he was taking.
I really wouldn't worry too much if he's healthy and happy, wet nappies etc x

kkr168 · 09/08/2021 18:46

Tommy has a bug, sickness & diarrhea, no temperature, he's fine in himself & still has lots of wet nappies. It's been 2 days now, so if he's still like it tomorrow I'll give the Dr a call.

Tommy drinks from a sippy cup currently, we do have a doidi cup but haven't tried it yet, will have to give it a go.

Kj1010 · 10/08/2021 12:10

@charl88 ty yes I do think he is weaning himself off yesterday he actually had 3 7oz bottles along with food etc but had a bit of a dodgy tummy I think as had 3 poos first one was green mashy second mustard colour and had a bit of mucus in it then a brown runny one went all over his dad lap then last night he woke up crying around 1am tried with a bottle drank 2 oz and back to crying ended up falling asleep on my stomach so def a belly ache I think and so far his only had a bowl of readybrek doesn't want a bottle at all but ate breakfast fine had a poo and was brown but mash consistency his older brother has had a cold so I am wondering if he is sitting for something

Hey lovely ladies! It's been a while. How is everyone doing? My little girl is doing great, currently 8 months although she has oral thrush at the moment so past couple of days has been a little fussy with feeds.

Food wise she's doing great! She eats everything and she's learning to eat by herself too. She sits up, rocks back and forth all day so I really think she is going to be a bum shuffler. Almost has 6 teeth! Says mum and dad. I'm staying at my mums in Wales for a month so loving life right now.

Mentally I'm doing a whole lot better. Receiving CBT, so far I've had one session so I have good days and bad days but nowhere near where I was a couple of months back.

I also came here looking for advice off mums who work for the NHS, have made a flexible working request and it's been rejected? Or anyone who has had to fight for it. I'll update you on the specifics if there is anyone that can help me. Hope everyone has a lovely day x

Jwl45 · 12/08/2021 17:18

@Asianchick6693 hi there ... So glad to hear you are feeling so much better and sounds like your little one is doing fab also. Glad you're enjoying Wales. (I live in West Wales!☺️) Can't help with the work situation I'm afraid. Hope someone on here can offer advice xx

kkr168 · 19/08/2021 12:08

So 10 days ago norovirus wiped our whole household out, we were all Ill for 48 odd hours! Fully recovered we went for a lovely weekend away in Woolacombe, with some other family members, Bil & family, sil & her daughter, mil & fil. On return our eldest son felt Ill, as did bil & 1 child, so we all took covid tests.

Our son tested positive, as did bill's entire household, so scary!
He's confined to his room, I'm bleaching the bathroom constantly, hoping it doesn't spread to the rest of us!!

On a plus Tommy has started standing unaided for up to a minute, he's only 8 ¹/² months, wonder how long before he's walking.

Smafa · 20/08/2021 10:56

Hi all, how's things? Sorry to hear of sickness @kkr168. Hope you're all feeling much better now. Daffodil

Well, the Boy is actually trying to stand now, despite still being in the 'frustrated swimmer' phase of crawling! But he's also struggling with holding a spoon, does anyone have any tips?

& finally, guilty confessionBlushfamily drama plus new health issues on top of fibromyalgia mean I'm struggling w energy/strength - so bubs is in front of the tva bit too often lately...now the only thing that calms him & makes him do that happy gurgle/excited squeal is Cocomelon. Which at least is educational...right?!?
Obvs do other stuff too but feeling like a terrible mummy rn
(Hangs head in shame)

Kj1010 · 25/08/2021 18:02

I want to say how awesome & brave you are, @Kj1010 for being so openly honest. You're a real person! Real = sometimes uncomfortable, messy & dirty & that can scare some people who like their world kept comfortable, organised & shiny; they simply can't deal with anything that might spoil it.

Putting yourself out there, even online, really takes guts, you should be proud of yourself. 👍🏽🤩👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥳

In response, I am 43, ftm, anxiety is one of my issues too, & I have very few friends - even fewer who contact me regularly - & none who live anywhere close to me. Luckily my hubby is my BFF, we've known each other 20 years, but of course there are some things that only a woman truly gets!
My miracle rainbow boy is the centre of my world & hubs is just a little to the left 😏

Boy will now roll to attain items he desires, he can also crawl a bit, but backwards 😂
No teeth yet, everything still goes straight in the mouth he & still won't give up the bottle, but he's displaying a wicked sense of humour & everyone he meets falls in love with him. He's very entertaining.

Take care ☺️

Jwl45 · 10/09/2021 18:29

@Kj1010 I'm in the 40s club too... 46 with a just- turned -10- month- old -yesterday! No mum friends with babies here either! So we are 40- something- no -mum -friends -with- babies -mumsnet- friends ☺️
Not anxious as such but I do need to lose - I won't say baby weight... I shall say Xmas and lockdown weight!!! I look at my clothes and do get down when I think they're tight or don't even come near!!!! But I'm currently not in the headspace to get up and do something about it! I feel lazy lol.
Also have gone back to work full time and it is most definitely a shock to the system. I'm so tired. (So glad Elsi is such a good baby at night)

Cannot believe we've been in this friend group nearly a year! Our gorgeous babies are growing so fast!!

Smafa · 12/09/2021 08:28

@Kj1010 I'm so flaky - all that jabbering & I didn't say Happy Birthday! 🎉🥳
p.s I'm finding 40s to be way more fun than 30s...the older I get the less I worry about what other people think of me

Anyhoo hope you had a lovely day😊🎂

Smafa · 12/09/2021 08:30

@Asianchick6693 I'm trying to start negotiations with my work to go part time and they are not being very receptive. I recommend contacting an organisation called Pregnant then Screwed for advice. Good luck!

BabyBaldock · 14/09/2021 12:27

Hi everyone I can see a similar question asked but a couple of years ago. I am thinking of buying one of the travel systems off Kiddies Kingdom however there seems to be mixed reviews and I am worried about spending a lot of money and then not receiving the items. Has anyone order recently?

Kj1010 · 14/09/2021 12:33

@BabyBaldock I haven't but have ordered off online4baby and got items within a week

Jwl45 · 14/09/2021 13:00
