@krissy12 we gave him his first dinner last night, he tried a pepper but then spat it out and was much happier with a pre loaded spoon with fruit puree I think because it's sweeter. He's on that amount of milk too, apparently it takes 8 tries with one flavour sometimes for them to like it so don't lose hope :)

krissy12 · 24/04/2021 10:24

thank you will keep at it. I think if its a no go with the veg again today I might try some fruit or baby porridge instead

Mc3209 · 24/04/2021 10:35

I found banana mashed with yoghurt was a win, mashed potatoes he likes, as well as the porridge (I make my own, just blitz the oats in the food processor before cooking it). Broccoli he would eat, but pull funny faces, whilst carrots and peas are a no go at the moment. Will keep trying until he likes them. Apparently sweet potato is good, but I haven't tried it yet.
Oh, and by eating I mean few spoonfuls, nothing spectacular!

hi so TMI post here. lewis has had more dirty nappies than normal the past 2 days I didn't think it was related to weaning because I don't think he actually swallowed any of the veg I had been trying. but this morning he had 2 spoonfuls of banana baby porridge and tonight he has had grey poo!! is this normal or should I be getting this checked?

Mc3209 · 25/04/2021 18:33

@krissy12 perhaps run it by your GP/HV. My baby's poops turned from runny yellow baby poos to more human turds once we started weaning.

krissy12 · 25/04/2021 18:43

thanks @Mc3209 will text the HV tomorrow honestly feel like I'm going to have a full head of grey hair by the time he's one

DressingGown87 · 25/04/2021 19:46

@krissy12 Paige has had bad nappies from day one usually very loose, yellow. Last week one was very dark green / grey. I asked the HV at her monthly weigh in, and she said it was fine, it’s light grey that is “concerning”. She also has black strands in her poo if she eats banana, which alarmed me at first (thought she had eaten a rug). But she also said it’s never any trouble to ask if I’m unsure, so I would just give them a text.

krissy12 · 25/04/2021 20:14

thanks @DressingGown87 I'll see how he is tomorrow if there's anymore and message her it was more dark grey than light so I'm hoping it was just because it was the first day he's had solids properly

krissy12 · 26/04/2021 15:51

update on poogate following on from the grey poo last night we have had 4 more dirty nappies 1 diarrhoea and 3 with mucus. the HV was very concerned about the mucus and ? cmpa brought on by weaning which I really don't think it is. so spoke to gp to wasnt concerned about any of it but has agreed to see him this afternoon but told me to expect him to say we just 'need to ride it out'

Strawberries4days · 26/04/2021 16:06

@krissy12 at least you're able to get checked! I honestly feel like the gp just don't want to do much with babies at this time. It's a pain! Hope he's feeling better💐

Can anyone suggest what I can do to stop DD slouching in her high chair? She's not able to sit unaided yet but very strong head and neck control so got given the go ahead from hv to wean. I'm worried that from the amount of times she slouching in her chair, she's gonna end up choking on food or water. I've tried the pillow behind her back but still able to do it. Her feet can't touch the foot rest yet, do you think it's something to do with that?

1990shopefulftm · 26/04/2021 18:01

@Strawberries4days can you adjust the back rest or straps at all on it? and get the tray as far back as possible.

Strawberries4days · 26/04/2021 18:04

@1990shopefulftm0 Yep we've tried that but it's like she's loosen it somehow unless I got something that's faulty? She's like an escape artist honestly 🤦🏽‍♀️
How is your weaning going?

krissy12 · 26/04/2021 18:28

@Strawberries4days I think he felt he had to see him because I think he thought I was an anxious ftm but I emphasised it was the health visitor who was concerned.

instead of the cushion could you roll up an blanket and wrap it round so its supporting her at the hips to stop her falling

DressingGown87 · 26/04/2021 19:24

@krissy12 Hope everything went ok at the GP, and your little one is feeling better.

@Strawberries4days have you got a bumbo chair or something similar / Pram seat which you could use instead? Or can you adjust the footrest. Paiges goes up, so she sits with her feet up, which I find helps. Or stuff a blanket or towel in to help. They do love to wriggle out of things don’t they, Paige messes with her pram to get her arms free.

krissy12 · 26/04/2021 19:27

@DressingGown87 thank you he said its viral gastroenteritis and just need to wait it out but it seems to be getting worse 5 dirty nappies today Confused

Strawberries4days · 26/04/2021 19:59

@krissy12 hope everything went ok at the gp. It's horrible when they're ill when they're so young, hopefully it will just run its course and he'll bounce back to himself again very soon! Just hang in there 💐

@DressingGown87@1990shopefulftm I will try the towel trick tomorrow. I don't have a bimbo but I do have a sit me up seat from fisher price. I might use that as a last resort if the towel doesn't work. Mostly for safety but also for it going everywhere 😂

1990shopefulftm · 26/04/2021 22:41

@Strawberries4days it's going well, he had 3 meals today and tried parts of all of them. He's seems to be swallowing small amounts already, it's just convincing him to try to drink some water without spitting it out that we re finding tricky

Strawberries4days · 27/04/2021 09:05

@1990shopefulftm awww that's brilliant! It's so exciting letting them try new things. The water part is a bit tricky, DD just chews the spout but she can drink it when she wants to or when we do it for it a bit at a time

1990shopefulftm · 27/04/2021 09:42

He woke up for a night feed last night for the first time in months so that's 50oz of milk and 3 meals in 24 hours, I hope it's just the six months growth spurt a few days early as he's a bottomless pit at the moment. He's now just hit 23lbs and put his first 18-24 month top on :O

Strawberries4days · 29/04/2021 09:04

How has everyone's weaning been? I'm trying to fit it in with her bottles, DH think I'm doing it too early by waiting an hour after but I can't fit it in plus her naps somehow. She gets a bottle at 8am then wean at 9.15am, lunch bottle at 12pm wean at 1pm and then dinner bottle at 4pm wean at 5/5.30pm and last bottle at 8pm for bed. Should I stick with it or wait a bit later? She sometimes shows interest in food but I'm just trying to figure this out🙈 only a few tea spoons too

krissy12 · 29/04/2021 09:21

@Strawberries4days I'm just focusing on breakfast just now especially when we're still having nappy drama. so my lb normally has a bottle about 5am then I do breakfast when he's up between half 7/8 then give his bottle a wee while after that. if at lunch he's showing an interest I'll give him a melty stick or banana but that's all so far

Strawberries4days · 29/04/2021 09:39

@krissy12 awww hope he's getting better soon💖 yeah maybe I'm focusing too much at once with her. I'll scale back to just one meal atm, probably get flavoured porridge in or some fruit for her to try in the morning. It's difficult trying to get a good rhythm with weaning, bottles and naps plus play time

krissy12 · 29/04/2021 10:44

@Strawberries4days lewis loves the banana one and I have the plain one aswell that I add apple puree to

Strawberries4days · 29/04/2021 10:49

@krissy12 ohh that sounds good! DD isn't a fan of banana we found, might try apple and strawberry flavour ones.

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 29/04/2021 12:12

Weaning going well here - DS gives everything a go (parsnip is the only major fail Envy). I'm leaning more towards baby led and finger food as he does not want to be fed. He's getting the hang of chewing but I've no idea how much he swallows! Helps that he has teeth though. I made him some pastry pinwheels yesterday and he loved them. We're still only on lunch as also finding it tough to fit everything in including the cleanup. I'm down to only one breastfeed a day now too as couldn't face the idea of bottle, breast and food. There aren't enough hours in the day!
